Healthy discussion: Mpreg

I've seen a lot of different opinions about this genre of story. What are your thoughts on mpreg fics? What makes you like them? What makes you dislike them? What makes mpreg good? What makes it bad? If you read it, what do you expect from it? I'm really curious about this topic so don't be afraid to leave your opinion!

I think it's freaking gross, unrealistic. It honestly makes me cringe and shutter. To each their own but I'll never stick around reading a fic or apply to a role play that allows it.

I read mpreg because it's cute, and that is that. I'm a fan girl with an undying thirst, after all, but I do understand for those who despise it. It's unrealistic and some might call it disgusting. But to be honest, fan fiction is a fiction. It's not true either you make it mpreg or the child is adopted or straight or gays. It's conjured up by fans for fans, no?

TBH, the mpreg thing isn't new to me. Though most of the stories or plots I've read that included the subject didn't discuss it per se, even in the Omniverse pieces. Only the before -like planning and what ifs and stuff, or the suddenly getting pregnant, or the after part -like how to deal with the baby and stuff. I haven't read any in AFF, so I'm not sure how into the subject the authors go, but really, it's fine. Just do not get into the specifics -quasi-biology is still disgusting in fiction. Sort of like animal-human or alien-human pairings, if you know what I mean. And yes, I'm an avid fan of M2M fiction, so I'm entitled to this very long comment. LOL

I usually only read it when it's in the ABO universe but outside of it I've never read a fic soley based on mpreg. It doesn't bother me though. It's just not something I actively search for.

I do read a lot of stories in mpreg, but almost all the time that I encountered the "part" of the story, I skip it. Haha. I don't know. it's really hard to visualize and create a rated scene in words, let's be honest about that, and most(not all) of the mpreg stories that I have read have a really unique plot, if not wholly, so it quite comes with a package that if the mpreg is good, the plot is definitely worth it, so I read it.

It isn't my cup of tea - like sempiternalis said, i dont hate it but dont like it either. somehow, I found it awkward to read and I can't really imagine if that happened in real life unless they're trans so yeah. I have never really read mpreg - my senior that I'm quite close with is an avid writer of mpreg so sometimes I did read a little bit, and it just feels so weird(?). I don't find it disgusting but I don't think I'll read mpreg fics(considering that i'm not a fan of omegaverse and to read mpreg fic happens in normal, real life is just funny)

While it's true that there are men who can get pregnant (trans, etc.), I feel that the mpreg genre in general forces something upon a homoual relationship that doesn't necessarily have to be that way. Many (I'm not saying all, but many enough for it to be problematic imo) mpreg fics are written in a way that has the reader automatically assume that one character is the "woman" of the relationship (the one who gets pregnant) and vice versa, which is why I often have a hard time reading those. A relationship between two people of the same gender doesn't have to be like a normatively "regular" couple (whatever that is). Things like adoption, surrogacy (okay surrogacy is a sensitive matter I know, but still), or realistic (in terms of fantasy or sci-fi) descriptions of how the pregnancy is actually possible, etc. seem to be underrepresented in the fanfic-world.

This might sound overly dramatic, so don't get me wrong. I have read mpreg and while it's not my cup of tea to begin with, I have enjoyed it. I believe that if they're written in a good way that doesn't forces any stereotypes on the couple and isn't built on expectations about what a "cute, loving, normal couple/family" should look like, then I find it okay. If not - no, then I don't like it at all.

Personally, mpreg is not my cup of tea. I don't hate it, I don't like it either. I also don't read much mpreg simply because the concept of it does not appeal to me. But no, I do not find it disgusting. Ultimately, I think the author makes or breaks an mpreg fic (or any fic, for that matter). If the author is not good at all, then of course the story will be bad. But if the author is good, then I do believe mpreg could be enjoyable.
To each their own. It's just not something I'd actively search for, but if it got recommended to me and described as worthwhile, then I'd read it.

Guys get pregnant in some mythologies. Trans males COULD get pregnant. I honestly don't know what makes it bad, but I do respect that some people may be weirded out by the concept. (Considering girls can now get pregnant w/o males, I do hope people don't react badly when guys can actually get pregnant. Like, who knows what future discoveries hold for us?)

Badly written fanfiction with mpreg makes a bad mpreg. A good mpreg imo provides maybe a bit of an explanation to the male pregnancy phenomenon going on in their fics, which makes me love the whole concept of Omegaverse. It's definitely showing creativity for the author's part. It creates a whole new world with a whole new system and structure.

I don't think that is disgusting ... It's just not real ... I don't like the fact that in some stories the male who gets pregnant is described as really girly ... If they act normal (according to their characters' personality in the story) it will be okay ... but too girly .... NO

my opinion? It's disgusting.

I used to hate it, for no reason in particular, I just didn't enjoy it. There was this fic I was reading and suddenly ALL the pairings got pregnant. All of them. And I was like whaaa-

But then I read some very cute ones, especially omegaverse, and I started to really like them sometimes. I don't really need explanation, I'm fine with magical realism as long as it doesn't start feeling super weird so yeah

Well, this might be a long one but I just thought I'd share my personal opinion.

What I am aware of is that mpreg, in reality, can occur when a girl transitions to a boy but still retains the female body parts so in this instance it is possible to conceive. Normally I am not very comfortable with the idea of mpreg as I am very realistically oriented and love realism in fanfiction, unless it is specifically stated it is fantasy, and even then I don't think it is possible for men to conceive as they don't have female reproductive parts.

As it is I had recently come across abo/omegaverse and I learned that men (the omega males) DO in fact conceive, and I am fine with that as it is in their body structure to be able to do so.

TL;DR unless it's abo/omegaverse or transgender people (ftm) I do not find myself enjoying reading mpreg simply because it lacks realistic standards. basically you need to be able to get pregnant otherwise it doesn't really make sense...

Hope I haven't offended anyone, please educate me if I have said something wrong, don't hesitate to correct something I said (as long as it's nicely of course ^^;;;)

I get why some people like it and I also understand why some people don't. I mean, it is cute that male characters get pregnant but for some people like me, who prefer realistic scenarios in fics, then mpreg stories is something we don't usually prefer. Don't get me wrong, I don't criticize or wonder why people like it, but its simply not for everybody.

(Trigger?) In my opinion, I don't like it? The few people I know who really like M-preg are... I don't want to say /off/, really, but they are. A few of them are uncomfortable enough with their own gender that if there is any woman in the story, they'll automatically stop reading... another, and she's explained it to me, said that, because she was molested as a child, she prefers to have the men getting pregnant. There are so many layers to that one, that she'd want the boys to go through what she was always terrified of, to the fact that she was protecting girls in the story from getting harmed at all. *shrugs* Personally, it's not my cup of tea, but it's not up to me what you read~

I think mpreg is really cute on certain characters. Luhan and Kyungsoo are my personal favorites for mpreg (for hunhan and kaisoo fics only), and just imagining a pregnant Luhan/Kyungsoo is so beautiful to me :'3 ofc it all depends on how it's written as well :)

Personally, not a fan of mpreg. It needs to be so incredibly well written to even stand a chance. I find myself cringing every time I see a story with that genre in the tags. First of all, let's be real: biology – men simply cannot get pregnant. Second, it often appears in wolf!au fics, which is a very questionable topic itself. I feel that when people write mpreg, they immediately turn the expecting person in the story into a very feminine, vulnerable person, as if they were in fact a woman, not a man. It's disturbing. If people write , it's given that both are male and should act like accordingly. All relationships, hetero or homoual or any other, should be equal. That includes both parties topping and bottoming and not one of them being in the receiving end all the time, carrying a child and whining about cramps etc. Mpreg can very easily turn immensely childish and always lacks logic, so I prefer realistic scenarios, such as adoption over it. The only way I could consider reading it is if there is a rational, anatomically and biologically valid explanation of why the pregnancy is possible in the first place.

Hrm... I don't really know what to think about it. Seems like an excuse to have one's OTP have a baby without 'ew, het!' by making the uke inexplicably have the reproductive organs necessary to carry a child without explanation (as in, it's not stated that the carrier is actually a bifauxnen - female who's androgynous, trans, or inter/hermaphrodite). If it's set in a universe where supernatural beings exist that don't follow the rules of how human/a given animal specie biology works, then I can turn logic off and go with the flow. Personally, I would prefer a realistic scenario where the couple either adopts a child or finds a donor mother and/or surrogate carrier. Establishing a same- couple doesn't mean logic has to be thrown out the window unless the fic is meant to be crack.

Disclaimer: I do not mean to imply with 'ew, het!' that writers who write primarily /yuri fanfic are anti-het (I myself read and write het, yuri, and if the plot of a given story catches my interest). It's simply a play on the stereotype about the lesser liked portion of the slash fic fandom.

I really depends on the story surrounding it. Most of the bad mpreg I read was bad because the author was no good. plus it really has to fit the story and not feel forced.

Mpregs are fun, honestly i dont understand why some people get disgusted just by the idea, like i saw many read tentacles and all that kind of stuff but when it comes to Mpreg some make faces. In the end its all fiction placing your ship through various kind of situations. we have quality and not so good fics in every au. So i just pick the good apple i can find.

To me, it's just kind of "there". I read it at times if the story is written well, I'm not really disgusted by it in any way (though it is written rather strangely sometimes) but I'm not exactly looking for it either. It's just ... there. I wrote it once because I wanted to make a seahorse au (it is as strange as it sounds) and seahorses are the only creatures known to man where the male carries the babies to term. I didn't feel like I could change nature when nature is literally mpreg. It was a funny challenge.
Idk, mpreg is mpreg. And the quality of it (for me) depends on how well the author writes in general.

(Btw sorry if Im sending two messages bc somehow they won't send on my phone)

It's like a guilty pleasure section in the fanfic category: no one seems to go there but we all gothere. Some of them are really fluff and angsty so that's why I'm so invested but I can see why some might look at it in disdain. It's just really nice to see your otp bond over something biological and sweet - although some fics aren't like that and it's just (even if it's mpreg, those might be a reason why people dislike it). Hope this helped :3
