taemi was originally born in busan, south korea. at the age of 3, her parents moved her and her siblings to berkley, california. her father was already from the united states, and had a job opportunity from friends he had there, so he didn't have a hard time moving their family there. they strongly believed that living in the united states would be the best option for their kids growing up. taemi's mother was strict with her children when it came to academics. her older brothers were around 10 at the time of the move, and their mother was already planning their future. she mainly speaks english with her parents and siblings, but korean with her grandparents and other family members
as she grew older, she fell in love with sciences. she attended many different science fairs around california and managed to place in all of them from the age of 6 to the age of 15. her mother was amazed with the talent her daughter had in the field, and was excited for her to start her career in medicine. taemi's mother enrolled her in many different science classes and extra activities. when she turned 10, her parents took them back to korea for a vacation. at the time, taemi watched many different streetdancers and got interested in dancing. she always loved music, but never got to do anything with her love due to her mothers passion with sciences.
Her mother enrolled her in ballet classes to keep her active and to keep her daughter from complaining. taemi loved it and never regretted her decision. the more she did ballet, the more she branched out into other types of dance, including hip-hop and jazz. in junior high school, around the age of 13, she joined a kpop dance club and eventually became one of the leaders of the club. while talking to her close friends about kpop, one of her closest friends mentioned auditioning for 3 kpop companies(jyp, sm, and ts). at the time taemi wasn't extremely interested until her friend, crystal, mentioned how they could be idols together. taemi took the chance, and in 2010 she decided to auditon for the companies. she hoped jyp or sm would contact her, but ts did instead. they immediately asked if she could come to korea to audition for a second round... it would be hard to ask her for permission.
she told her mother about the amazing opportunity she had to become a kpop trainee if she passed the second round. while her mother was disappointed, she also realized that if her daughter didn't make it, she'd have to continue school and get into medical school. so that's exactly what she told taemi. soon enough, she was on a plane to attend the second round.
"i promise."
after passing the second round and getting into the company, taemi's mother had a serious conversation with her daughter about her future. they eventually came to the agreement that taemi would continue school and college until she actually debuts (if she debuts). if everything falls through, she'd attend medical school in either america or korea. but, taemi became less and less interested in becoming a doctor as she got older...but she promised her mother that she would eventually go into medical school to make money for the family.

so up to present day, while her family still is in the united states cheering their taemi on, she is working hard to eventually afford going into medical school in korea, but she recently viewed the survival show program and quickly decided to apply..with hopes that she wouldn't have to give up on her actual passion...performing.

these two have a long, lengthy history. from the start, they had a pretty close relationship. she remembered training with dongsu for a short period of time before he debuted in 2012. but she loved hanging out with him and joking around together.
after he became an idol, he got more and more concieted with himself, which caused a rift in their relationship. he stopped talking to her as much as they used to...and she believes it is due to his cockiness, but he claims it is because his schedule was so packed.
as she debuted, things got worse because people kept comparing them. a lot of people called sonamoo the girl b.a.p, and compared dongsu to taemi, calling them sibilings. and she became able to see him again since she was an official idol, but that was more short lived, since the tension between groups made it hard.

she loves her best friend, crystal. they were close since junior high school. this is the friend that convinced her to become an idol, because she was also auditioning. however, crystal didn't make it into any of the companies that she applied to...so there was slight tension between her and taemi. however, taemi wasn't trying to lose her best friend. so she persisted and continued to convince crystal that idol life wasn't all that it was worked up to be, and crystal ended up getting over the upset that she was facing.

So... What made you want to be an idol? i orginally didn't want to be an idol...but my best friend convinced me, and then i really thought it would be an awesome opportunity.

Trainee and idol life being a ts trainee was harder for taemi because her korean wasn't as fluent as she had thought, so she took korean lessons everyday and worked hard to be able to communicate fluently with everyone as she wants. she originally was just trying to be a dancer, but ts decided to train her in rapping as well. at first, her rapping skills were awful, but as she learned more and more korean words, she became a better rapper as well.
while training in 2011, she got to meet some of the b.a.p memebers before debut. one of the people she became super close to was dongsu, she loved joking with them...and people thought they were perfect friends. as b.a.p debuted, she had to get back to her hard work because they didn't talk to her as much as they used to.
as she debuted...a lot of things came into the light. a lot of knetz hated their group because it seemed like a cheaper carbon copy of b.a.p. she hated the comparisons and tried her hardest to show a more unique side of her. but, deja vu failed to impress kpop fans of all types.
"the next comeback has to be amazing" she told all of her members, in hopes that things would eventually get better. since she is outspoken by nature, she urged her managers to try and get them another concept for the next comeback....and they settled for one by the time of cushion. cushion was more of a y/girl crush concept that taemi thought was one of the best concepts for the group as a whole. however, the song wasn't one of the best.... and knetz still were not happy with sonamoo.
at this time, taemi was constantly searching up her name and the name of her group, trying to see what others were saying of them. she found a lot of things like "they aren't as talented or interesting as b.a.p...and b.a.p still isn't the best." and "these girls won't last another year." or "all of these girls are uninteresting and ugly."
the frustration of both the groups grew more and more, and the girls of sonamoo became more and more bitter about the interest that b.a.p was getting overseas and in korea. the next comebacks that followed were cutesy, and almost all of the members weren't too happy about this, but they tried to deal with it because it seemed to be giving them a bit more popularity than the other few songs were. taemi and her members relly thought that ts entertainment was giving them bad songs and giving b.a.p better ones.
later on in her trainee life, after the cutesy songs, ts gave them less and less songs...but it seemed like the quality was slowly getting better... so taemi and her members assumed that it just took more time to produce better songs...but that wasn't the case. ts entertainent eventually stopped giving them songs for their few fans to listen to. to this day, taemi strongly believes that if it wasn't for b.a.p asking for so much more attention and money, sonamoo would have made it.
