► Shiwoo is a tall, unkempt guy with broad shoulders. His skin is slightly tanned with slight freckles on his face and shoulders. Although his hair appears black, it is actually a very dark shade of red due to his branded blood. It's very messy due to his own hairdressing skills. Despite all this, however, he has fascinating, prince-like face.

► He usually wears old, simple shirt that are mostly neutral colored and loose, tucked into fitted pants, matched with boots that reach up to her shin. This boy lacks any fashion sense, at all, so it's common to see him show up effortless and under-prepared. He actually would look much more messy if Jaesung doesn't always force him to tuck his shirt into his pants.

► At first glance, Shiwoo has a rather intense air to him with the constant uninterested expression he wears and how he likes to keep quiet most of the time. He comes off as rather aloof, not liking having all eyes on him and garnering any unwanted attention, preferring to remain observant instead. He usually has a relaxed, almost bored attitude, not getting excited about many things and typically has a chill and unconcerned approach to even climactic events. Shiwoo is also not very trusting and struggles with opening up to people. He is a naturally reserved individual, only letting a small number of people into his circle of trust, and often it takes a while for him to consider someone as such. Even though he has a hard time opening up to others, if eh does consider you a friend, you've gained a loyal and dependable ally.

► Though it may be hard to see at first, Shiwoo is actually quite thoughtful and has a selfless side to him. He cares a lot for his friends and often times puts others over himself. He willingly offers others supportive, though a tad critical, advice and is willing to help those he calls close with just about any concerns they may have. Often times he tries to solve other people's problems for them, though the result of this can be both good and bad. Shiwoo is also independent, he dislikes depending on others due to it making him feel like a burden. He's one to shoulder all his problems by himself and would much rather not worry others; he's also quite stubborn, meaning that he doesn't really accept help very well. Additionally, Shiwoo does have a tendency to be rather overbearing and overprotective over those he likes, perhaps to the point of appearing bossy, though he wouldn't admit it himself.

► A guy of very few words, Shiwoo sometimes gives off a "mysterious" or otherwise unapproachable vibe. Because of his resting face and sharp eyes in addition to his formal way of speaking, most people are intimidated by him, much to his chagrin. He gets lonely easily but tries not to let it show. Once people start to get close to him, however, they're often surprised by how laidback and friendly he can be.

► In truth Shiwoo can actually be quite irritable and short tempered. Quick-to-anger outbursts seem to be his favorite emotion. If he finds you annoying or finds something bothersome he won't hesitate to tell you that to your face, thanks to how honest and straightforward he is. Shiwoo is also very cynical. It takes a long time to gain his trust as he thinks that anybody who is kind to him is either mocking him or wants something from him. Shiwoo has lots of sarcastic and bordering on rude remarks whenever he talks with anyone he doesn't like or is angry at. He also tends to hold grudges.

Born as the only child of a wealthy and powerful noble family, Kang Moojin endured a strict upbringing in order to uphold his family's name and honor. Therefore he married the only daughter of one of his father's friends. His marriage was not one for love, but rather done just to keep two noble lineages alive. From the marriage he had a son named Kang Joonho.

One day he represented his family to attend a ceremony in a small village in the mountain area. On the way there, they were confronted by a gang of thieves. One of his bodyguards urged him to escape, but instead he drew his own sword and started picking off thieves one at a time. Long story short, an arrow hit Moojin’s horse and he was thrown into a cliff.

Moojin was found a few days later in the bush by a Lion Laguz whose name was Hae Byul. He took him home and took good care of him. Even though Moojin had been unconscious for days, Byul couldn’t resist his handsome, regal features, and reached out to see if his skin is as soft as it looks. Moojin twitched and woke. Byul helped him sit up and asked his name, but Moojin only gasped, “I… don’t remember.”

Byul took the opportunity by telling him that he's Im Sanghyuk, her lover. She told him that they had been in a relationship for quite a long time, but did not get the blessing from his parents due to Byul being a laguz. Moojin believed her fake story and they were married a month later. They live happily and have a son named Im Shiwoo.

Upon seeing Shiwoo, his past memories gradually returned. The pictures of him holding a baby boy named Joonho always flashed through his mind every time he hold Shiwoo in his embrace. Byul told him that the one he meant was the son of his best friend. After Shiwoo started blabbing and managed to call him "dad", the pictures of the boy whom Byul had told him as a son of his best friend reappeared in his mind, blabbing and calling him the same name, "dad". Byul tried to convince him that his memory might be wrong since he forced himself to remember his past. He tried to convince him that he didn't need to remember his past. That made him started to be suspicious. He made every effort to remember his past. He went to the house of their neighbors and asked them if he was really a lover of Byul. They told him that Byul does have a lover who was a beorc named Im Sanghyuk, but she had never introduced him to them.

One day, he was on his way to the forest to look for herbal plants to treat his son who was had a fever. He slipped while crossing the river and his head hit the rock. When he woke up a few hours later, he had remembered everything. He remembered about his wife and son whom he betrayed. He was furious because that damn sub-human had fooled him.

When he arrived at home, he pretended to still lose his memories. He asked Byul about how they first met. Byul then told him beautiful stories about their first meeting without knowing that her husband intended to kill her. Moojin then told her that a friend of him had lost his memories and a woman took the opportunity to fool him and finally they married, and he asked her how the woman should be punished. Byul called the situation tragic, and although she claimed not to understand, her expression gave away the truth. Moojin then said he would tell the woman that she and her family are doomed, but before that, he’d give her time to make her own decision.

Byul aware that her husband has remembered his past, so that night when her husband was asleep, she sneaked out and left Shiwoo to one of her neighbors. And as she expected, when Moojin woke up the next day, he said that he had remembered everything and asked about her decision. Byul claimed that he had fooled him and she was willing to accept whatever punishment he would give, even if it meant he would kill her. Moojin responded her decision by killing her. He wasn't going to kill Shiwoo though, but a neighbor of them afraid that he'll going to kill that kid, so she took Shiwoo and entrusted him to one of her friend who live in Hwail.

 

Raised in an orphanage, Shiwoo never knew how his parents looked like. He never knew how it was like to be loved by parents. He also doesn't want to be disappointed after knowing the reason his parents abandoned him, so he was never interested in knowing who his parents are. After all, the owner of the orphanage where he lived took good care of him and treated him like his own son, so he didn't need to dream about his parents who never existed at the first place.

Shiwoo highly respected the owner of the orphanage and was very protective of Jaesung (son of owner of the orphanage) whom Shiwoo considered as his own brother. So, when he heard that Jaesung joined the Army because they needed him to support them through his performances of sacred Galdrar, Shiwoo also enlisted himself into the army in order to protect him.

Kyungho also cares a great deal for the other orphans, but Shiwoo is just as special as his own son for him. After all, he was the one who had raised Shiwoo since he was a toddler. Kyungho actually knows about Shiwoo's background and the identity of his benefactor, but he never told Shiwoo about it because he was worried the results would not be good. After all, Shiwoo was never interested in knowing anything about his parents. He would tell everything to Shiwoo though, but later, when Shiwoo is really ready to face the reality.

Jaesung is Kyungho's son whom Shiwoo considered as his own brother as vice versa. Shiwoo's very protective over Jaesung due to him being physically weak. Jaesung had always been sickly. When he was little, he spent a lot of time in bed, used to gaze out the window and see all the little birds flying around the sky when Shiwoo doesn't around. Despite all this, however, he possesses a strong and unwavering spirit and is very loyal to his country.

Shiwoo doesn't know anything about Joonho, but Joonho knew that he has half-brother who is a branded, even though he never said it to anyone including Yoonha. He couldn't be careless, otherwise that mad King would probably kill him and his whole family. He found his father always calling Shiwoo's name in his sleeps when he was sick, so he secretly investigated about the person named Shiwoo and went to the area where his father lived when he was "missing" and found out the facts about his half-brother. Knowing that his father has another son from another woman shook him to his core, but the thought of what Shiwoo had to endure so far broke his heart. Since then he began to send letters and a big amount of money each month to Shiwoo as an anonymous benefactor.

From the moment he first met Sejin, Shiwoo could tell that he was a good person. These two get along extremely well since they're roommates. Sejin always has a special way with words and Shiwoo admires it. Shiwoo understands that smiles all the time is not always a good thing, but he is somehow envy of Sejin who is able to put a smile on his face even when he's not in a good mood, unlike him who always has a resting face. Sejin is very aware of the people around him and knows how to handle a person like Shiwoo. Sejin is also great at keeping Shiwoo in line if the latter goes too far with his rudeness.

Honglin is energetic and a little too confident, two traits that clash just slightly with Shiwoo's own. He finds Honglin a little annoying at times due to his mischief and childish nature, even though Honglin's motives for interacting with him are always good ones. Honglin also likes to and calls him cute and Shiwoo definitely did not appreciate it. Even though Shiwoo finds Honglin to be kind of annoying, these two still get along extremely well. He also doesn’t mind at all even though Honglin often lead him into his evil schemes.
