the first thing you noticed about ai is that she's tall, lean, and boyish. nine times out of ten, people mistake her for a male. her somewhat flat chest also helps along alluding people to her tomboy looks.

she likes to keeps her hair shortmost of the time, but would be willing to grow it out towards a more mullet hair style in the future. she's never been a big fan of long hair on herself.

despite her overall boyish image, ai does hold some femininity under her clothing. she has a slim figure, somewhat wide him, and all around softness. most of the muscles that she has is mainly in her legs from dancing, but she does hold a little muscle in her arms.

ai is someone that confuses everyone. someone strong and masculine has got to be confident and full of them selves right?

one the first things you notice about ai is that she holds intelligence in her eyes. through years of intensive studies, it'd be rather ironic that she wouldn't be smart. she's quick on the uptake and clever, easily learning things that would take others awhile. along with her intelligence, ai is very perceptive and observant. she's quick to notice things when they happen. it's like she has eyes in the back of her head, being able to know someone is behind her even when they are trying to sneak up. underneath her calculating gaze, ai is passionate deep down. she gets highly motivated and is very goal-oriented, especially with the things she is passionate over. and despite her quietness, her passion can be said to be one of the things that she's very vocal about. whenever ai's given a specific task, she becomes dedicated to the project. whether it's coming up with a new rap or simply doing the dishes, nothing will stop her until she gets done with the job.

due to years of intensive study, ai not just smart, but has also become a rather quiet and reserved individual. she keeps mostly to herself and will hardly announce herself when she enters a room. and despite the fact that she rebeled from her parents eventually, ai is an obedient person by nature. she actually hates confrontations and thinks that just going along with what is said is the better course of action. which is to say, isn't good all the time. and despite ai not being that entirely young, she has a overactive imagination which is probably due to not being around others when she was younger. her little quirky stories that involve her imagination are sure to keep the other girls from getting too sad and lonely, cheering them up when they are down. though, sometimes her imagination can be her downfall, especially during serious matters.

ai may seem like a passionate genius, but deep down, she is very insecure, like most people like her. living with parents that always expected the best out of her and always pointed out her flaws no matter what, she finds herself second guessing everything she does despite doing things right. it has weighed her down a lot and usually gets her overthinking everything. and because of her overthinking, ai becomes quite a stubborn  perfectionist. if one little thing is misplaced or wrong, she will do whatever it takes to put it back in it's place or fix it. ai's strong passionate emotions can be her downfall as she's quite sensitive. the littlest jokes can send her down a downward spiral into depression, especially if the jokes are towards her too quiet nature or her insecurities. and because of that and combined with her quiet nature, others may see her as a timid person. her insecurity masking her confidence and causing others to walk over her when she should shine.

despite the chill and gentle way ai carries herself, you wouldn't think she grew up the way she did, but it's true. ai grew up with a silver spoon; daughter to business owners. her parents were very busy taking care of their businesses, so most of ai's childhood consisted of nannies taking care of her day after day and only fleeting moments with her parents. she easily grew to understand that this was just how her life would be and just went along with it. it would just be useless to try and act out so she listened and did what she was told to do.

ai threw herself into her private schooling, trying to garner her parents' attention in the only way she knew. her parents expected her to do the best in her schooling so she made sure she studied to get their praise, though she barely even got that even with her great grades.

it was at the age of ten when ai made the decision that she wouldn't wear the dresses and skirts that her mother kept sending her. they always made her itch,  made her feel weird. she was a lot more slender and tinier than other girls her age and dresses just made her feel too bulky. with her parents barely ever home, she wore her other clothes instead; pants, shorts...as long as they were dresses or skirts. ai was a happier child when she could wear what she wanted and the nannies could see her polos and shorts made her the happiest.

at age fifteen, ai witnessed something magical (or at least, in her eyes). one of her nannies thought it would be nice to take her to a performance by a new group (cause that's what fifteen year olds liked, right? right?). it was exo-m's debut performance in china. ai was amazed by the six boys that she instantly wanted to be them. she wanted to be on the stage and perform with them.

to keep her new dream a secret from her parents, she got her nanny to take her to dance lessons with the promise that she keeps up with her schooling. she was a good student at the lessons. along with her dancing, ai enjoyed trying to sing and rap along to her favorite singers and groups.

in one of the scarcely few times of actually spending time with her parents, they took her along on a business trip to south korea when she was seventeen. having her own agenda, ai went to an sm audition without her parents consent. she was promising with her androgynous looks, so she was accepted (this was sm, home to amber of f(x), so it wasn't farfetched that she would be accepted).

whether they were angry with her disobedience and amongst other things, they didn't say much to ai as they agreed to let sm take her. in ai's mind, she thinks they only let her go through with it because if she truly was good like she said, she'd make them money in the end. or publicity. either way.

► peking duck -- peking duck hands down is her favorite food of all time. her second favorite is hotpot.

► exo -- exo-m was her first group she biased which ended up becoming exo as a whole. while her original love will always be exo-m, she loves all of them. her original bias was tao, but since his departure her new bias is kai, mainly for his dancing.

► the seaside -- the one thing she misses from home are the seaside. she used to walk along the beaches in her free time.

► tea -- ai loves tea. she has a huge collection of tea, but her absolute favorite kind of tea will always be green tea.

► small animals -- ai simply adores small and tiny animals.

► skinship -- due mainly to never having many friends, she grew to instantly love the skinship culture in korea. she loves cuddles and hugs and usually found clinging to her members on the daily.

► spicy food -- ai actually has a bit of a babie tongue and can't handle a lot of spice so she'd rather not eat spicy food if she can.

► pink -- ai has a love-hate relationship with pink. most of the clothes her mother always picked out and sent to her were always pink. she'll wear it for promotions, don't worry about that, but you probably won't see pink on any of her casual clothes.

► feminine clothing -- it's not that she hates it entirely, but female clothing makes her feel weird...uncomfortable. she knows she'll have to wear a few feminine clothing in a girl group, she just hopes she won't be forced to wear dresses or skirts.

► coffee -- again, she doesn't hate it...but she loves tea a lot more than coffee.

► soccer -- for outside activity, she learned to play soccer and enjoyed it a lot. she still likes to keep up with soccer and enjoys a game or two with friends if she can.

► dancing -- of course, dancing would definitely be a hobby of hers. she loves dancing, whether it be her just goofing off or covering other dances.

► cleaning -- she used to help her nannies clean when she was younger, but this little bit has translated into her cleaning when she gets frustrated.

► waking up -- ai is one of the first members to wake up in the mornings. and she always makes a fresh pot of green tea.

► nails -- ai has a bit of a bad habit of biting her nails when nervous. it's a tick the girls of razzle dazzle are trying to stop, calling her out when they notice it happening.

► clinging -- as said above, ai can definitely always been seen clinging to the members of razzle dazzle on a daily basis.

► checking messages -- ai always tries to check her messages, to see if either jungwoo or guiying have messaged her.

► letting others down -- a fear that came from the way she was raised. she always did things in hopes to get her parents attention, but instead of their loving attention, all she would get is their words that it was never enough, she could do better. and now that has translated into always having this lingering fear of letting everyone down, that she wasn't doing her best.

► intelligence -- her intelligence is not something to underestimate. usually called a genius kid, she can easily answer trivia questions with how much information that is stored in her brain from her years of heavy homeschooling. never play trivial pursuit with ai, she always wins.

► dancing -- her main talent is dancing, which makes sense, right? well it's not only that, but she can dance male oriented dances perfectly fine and blend in. now, that's got to be one hell of a talent!

► deep voice -- ai has a pretty deep voice, that's gotta be a talent right?

► ai has a pet hedgehog named tea! tea was a present from guiying when she became a trainee. hedgehogs are fairly low maintence except for a few couple of things which ai was surprisingly good at keeping up with.

► she's most likely to get shipped with most of the members due to her tomboy image. ai doesn't mind, as long as fans don't go overboard.

► she may be quiet and one of the oldest, but she clings to the members a lot and acts younger than she is.

► if anyone asks whose her favorite kpop group besides exo, it's not a suprise that she would answer with nct. she trained very close with almost all the members. sometimes she'll even hint about things she learned when training with them to make the girls of razzle dazzle giggle.

► probably due to her upbringing, ai doesn't have an social media accounts. though i can see razzle dazzle convincing ai to open up her own instagram at some point, thinking it'd be super cute.

► if you couldn't tell, ai is rich and ai loves to spoil her friends since she's never really had friends before coming to korea. she used to spoil the nct members so it's not a surprise that she will spoil the members of razzle dazzle as well.

► surprisingly, ai has a huge plushie collection. sometimes the members are surprised that she finds room to sleep in her bed because it's almost entirely covered with all kinds of plushies.

► if asked, ai would no doubt answer that her aunt guiying is her favorite author. guiying writes short stories about chinese mythology and they ar very thought provoking. she also just likes to help give her aunt free pr cause she deserves it.

► ai is really bad at videogames.

► when ai is restless, she likes to drag the members of razzle dazzle (even the non-dancers) to the practice rooms to dance and to goof off.

ai's lovely parents that never gave their daughter the time of day unless it was to say they expected better of her. truthfully, they wanted a son to an heir to their combined businesses and were disappointed when she was born.

the most interaction she has had with them is fleeting moments; before they go to work or when the come home in the late hours of the night, short breakfasts and or dinners, things like that. they both share a very serious and pessimistic attitude on life that ai has heard countless of nannies straight up call them both heartless.

they hardly call ai except for a few moments to tell her that she better work hard to 'make them proud'.

guiying was one of ai's main nannies and the one that took her to the exo m performance that fateful day. she is the sister to ai's father and is very much disappointed in ai's parents for the way they treated their own child. she only took on the job because guiying's old child had recently left the nest and she was dealing with empty nest syndrome.

she treats ai like one of her own children and also sees her as such. she was the first nanny to notice how much happier ai seemed to be when she wasn't wearing those stupid and ugly dresses the mother kept forcing her to wear.

guiying seems strict, but has the absolute softest spot for ai and will do whatever she can to make sure ai is doing okay. she frequently calls or messages ai, making sure she's eating well and not stressing too much, but ai always tells her not to worry (and to worry about her own deadlines as guiying has a tendency to procrastinate when her deadline is close by).

junho is someone that ai is super close to. he's one of the many dance instructors at sm ent, but one that interacted the most with the trainees that made sm rookies and nct. as ai trained mostly with the other boys, she grew quickly acquainted with him.

junho saw a star when he saw ai dance. she maybe slim and tiny in her body, but she's tall and fierce when she dances. she kept up with all the other male trainees which was why it wasn't a surprise she was kept along as one of nct's backup dancers.

when she was passed up for sm rookies and for a possible debut, junho knew that was where he'd come in. he was friends with cheolmin who is a dance instructor at mik ent. he remembered him saying something about auditions and put in a good word for ai because he didn't want to see her talent go to waste.

junho seems like a really cold and intense kind of guy, but he has an opposite personality. he's really open and not afraid to jump in with the other trainees when they are struggling.

mainly due to her tomboy image and talent in hip hop dancing, ai was actually put in the same training pool as future members of nct. so, of course, she grew close to some of the members of nct. she misses them the most from her time in sm, especially one member...

ai felt the most comfortable with kun, winwin, and lucas. most of it was because they were chinese, but she feels more of a connection with them (moreso with kun & winwin than lucas). kun & winwin are pretty quiet and ai enjoys that there was nct members that were quiet like her. as for lucas, he's more of a big brother and doesn't care for her boyish appearance (though he does treat her more like a boy as he sometimes forgets that she is, in fact, a girl). most of the members had tried to seperate lucas from ai because they were afraid that he would corrupt precious ai, but he's actually pretty chill with ai. lucas was the first to find out about the crushes jungwoo and ai have for each other and he pretty much ships it.

johnny, jaehyun, and mark; the english speakers of nct. ai, someone who must of looked like she couldn't speak english, surprised these boys the most when johnny tried to swing her over to help her with english ony for her to be able hold a bit of a conversation with them. ai holds this memory close to her heart. jaehyun and mark were like big brothers as well with johnny being that crazy uncle.

despite her manly looks, ai is one of the most sweetest trainees you can get which is why she is kind of a favorite amongst the trainers and staff.

bae cheolmin, mik's dance instructor and choreographer was the reason ai got a shot at mik. after junho put in a good word about her, cheolmin was quick set up an audition for ai and he wasn't surprised to see the level of talent ai had, his friend had a good eye for talent after all. ai consider's cheolmin an amazing role model and flourishes under his teachings.

ai might not be one of the longer trainees of razzle dazzle, but despie her difference in visuals, everyone felt like ai fit with them. it wasn't hard, especially since ai actually more approachable than what she seems. the girls were quick see how soft and gentle ai was. ai wouldn't trade them for the world.

do yeonhui is such a sweet girl, ai thinks a lot. she's exactly who ai has always wanted to befriend. and now that she has indeed befriending someone like yeonhui, she never wants to let go of that friendship. you may see little yeonhui clinging onto ai's arm. many mistake them for a brother and sister combo a lot of the times, but the two just giggle over those situations. sometimes ai has a hard time realizing that yeonhui is actually a few months older than her (doesn't help that the girl is 10 centimeters shorter than her), but she definitely remembers whenever yeonhui gets into her 'stylist' or 'grandma' moods.

chieko is simply such a nice breath of air. chieko is someone that ai can baby and also chill with. she helps cheiko out when she's restless, not minding last minute dance sessions or making tea to help her settle. her reputation as a literal princess doesn't bother ai at all as chieko is also just a girl at base after all. though ai doesn't mind helping remind chieko about certain things, explaining them the best she can. ai will protect this girl with her life.

► ash -- mik ent decided to go with ai's english name, but shortening it to ash to give her a more gender neutral approach to her tomboy image.

► cool tomboy -- might be somewhat plain, but it's essentially what ai is. sometimes something simple is the way to go. that tacked on the 'cool' as in the way that ai dances, which gives her a cool and strong appearance despite her more soft personality.

after getting accepted (with the surprise of her parents' consent), ai was ed into the korean training system of sm ent. ai was a diamond in the rough, one filled with talents that just needed some polishing to make it all come together. so ai was then pushed into heavy studying, which ai was accustomed to, but now she had another language to learn and actual training on top of that. it was...rough, but ai felt like she could do it! she was dediciated!

after a year of training and rising up in ranks, ai was announced as smrookie alongside doyoung. she garnered a lot of fans due to her tomboy image and she was compared to amber a lot.

throughout the years, things were looking up for ai...until it wasn't. there was no sight for a new group, especially a girl group any time soon. it wasn't until 2018 when she was given the missive that they were letting her go as a trainee with the reason that there wasn't any groups in thought that would match her concept.

very upsetting to get such a comment from the company that she spent so long with. though she wasn't upset for long as her good friend junho immediately put in a good word for at mik who were looking for trainees currently.

ai was readily accepted into mik ent, especially after telling her story. things were obviously less strict and intense than it was at sm. sometimes instructors would pull her aside, help remind her that she could relax. that, sure, the kpop scene was cutthroat all together, mik ent didn't have the same reputation as sm ent did. ai didn't have to fully worry about being cut from anything like they did there. much like at sm, the instructors loved ai and her ability to absorb their teachings and even help out other trainees if she had the time.

she was instantly pushed into their current roster of girl trainees, naturally. ai was an amazing dancer after all. despite ai's overall concept, the girls here were a lot more open. she vibed generally well the the girl trainees and they didn't mind that she was different. eventually the roster got smaller and smaller until mik girlz was born, the pre-debut group that would eventually become razzle dazzle.

this was it, ai was finally making her debut!

 

► smrookie -- ai was announced as a smrookie on january 16th, 2015 alongside nct's doyoung. she remained a smrookie up until her departure from the company in 2018.

► mik girls -- ai mainly showcased her dancing as that was her main talent and what she was mainly known for.

► do they mean coed? -- when ai's first dance video is released, everyone is quick to noticed her looks. she looks like a boy so of course she's a boy...right? her former fans come forward to tell people otherwise before mik ent can answer people's worries that ai is, in fact, female.

► solo -- maybe a solo? a chinese one to reach the chinese market (if so, you may use either xin lu's discography or yuqi's own songs).

► choreography -- either making her own or posting choreography videos.

"oh, ah, hello," she says with a sheepish smile and rubbing the back of her neck. "my name's ai and i'm razzle dazzle's cool tomboy."

"it's so surreal," ai says, her eyes distant like she's remembering the past. "it's something i've always dreamed of, but thought i'd never fully succeed...but now here i am, reaching my dream." ai's eyes sparkle with unshed tears, full of emotions. "and it's amazing."

"d-different? about me?" ai thinks for a moment before continuing. "well, i'm certainly not like most other girls. first of all, i like the comfort of male clothing," she finally says with a definite expression on her face. "wearing overly feminine clothes makes me quite uncomfortable and so does the expectations that come with it."

ai blinks at the next question before her expression dips, a moment of vunerability. "i...at first, i didn't," she admits after a moment. "the expectations of wearing female clothing just because i'm a girl made me feel like i was too different everyone...i hated myself at some point." she then hardens her expression, once again becoming firm and strong. "but someone helped me look past those expectations. that it's okay to different. that you can be different and love yourself." a big smile overtook her face. "i'm proud to say that, yes, i do love myself."

"much like everyone else, i want to see us thrive on stage and have fun," ai says with sparkles in her eyes. "sure, winning is kinda cool too, but having the time of your life with friends? even better." she nodded for emphasis for her point. "but i really do hope for the best for razzle dazzle; for us."

LOVE INT　kim jungwoo

► snoopy -- one of jungwoo's popular nicknames and how she has jungwoo in her phone.

► woojung -- it's actually a funny story. when she first met jungwoo, she read his name wrong and called him woojung (mixing his hangul up). usually that never happens, but it did, but jungwoo thought it was great and even told ai to call him that anyways. so she does from time to time.

jungwoo is overall an oversized puppy. a total sweetheart who wears his heart on his sleeves, there's never a dull moment when jungwoo is around. whatever room he's in instantly lights up with his presence.

he can be emotional, but he's also a person that tries to hide his feelings, especially if he thinks it doesn't pertain to what is going on, not wanting to make things worse or anyone upset. with that, he's very intuitive to others, especially his close friends. he's sensitive to himself and other's needs.

he's very passionate, one can definitely see that when he's on stage. he may be this goofy puppy off-stage, but you'd have to be blind to not see the passion he has for singing and dancing.

► they talk a lot over text messages because of their busy schedules.

► lucas ships them. he usually teases jungwoo, but he'll tease ai as well whenever they see each other (he doesn't really ship them, it's more like...lucas thinks they are already dating. imagine his surprise when he finds out they aren't and when they actually do get together for real).

► a lot of their friends think they're cute because of their opposite visuals (jungwoo being feminine and ai being masculine).

► jungwoo was one of the first people (especially a guy) to realize she was a girl. that's why she trusts jungwoo a lot.

► whenever asked the question of who's her ideal type, ai will use jungwoo as an example. it's easy for her to answer cause that her best friend, she'd want a guy just like him right?

► whenever they are hanging out, jungwoo will be the perfect gentleman for ai. he'll hold open the door for her, let her walk in front of him, etc.

► during jungwoo's hiatus, ai was messaging and calling him whenever she could to see if he was doing okay. they've also done a few video calls (cause ai wanted to see how he looked for real, to make sure he wasn't lying).

► they actually have friendship bracelets. they usually hide it when they wear it, so the fans don't know about them yet.

► recently, jungwoo had began openly flirting with ai like he does with s. ai thinks he's just being silly (even though it makes her heart flutter like crazy).

when ai first came to sm entertainment, she was socially inept. she kept to herself because that was all she had known. it also didn't help that most of the girl trainees would give her weird looks due to the way she dressed.

so how did she meet jungwoo?

it happened only a few months after she first became an sm trainee. ai was still getting used to the cuter and girlier trainees. she felt different, like she didn't belong. she hid in the dance rooms a lot to just get away from them and to be alone. that's when jungwoo came in.

he walked into the practice room when he heard crying and he was surprised to see a tomboy in the room. he had heard about her when he became a trainee. he wondered why such a young girl was crying in a practice room alone. so he carefully approached her with a open hand and asked her just that.

it was the first time someone had fully recognized her as a girl without her having to correct them. she felt her heart beat rapidly for the first time, something that had only happened when she saw exo m for the first time.

so ai poured her heart out to jungwoo, told him all about her insecurities. and what did jungwoo do? comforted her. gave her the encouragement she needed.

afterwards, they talked about random things. things to keep her mind off of. jungwoo made her laugh and smile. she didn't feel different anymore.

at the end of their meeting, jungwoo reached out his pinky. they made a pinky promise that night that they would become the best of friends and if ai needed someone to talk to, he would be there for her.

and they both kept that promise, even now. even with jungwoo debuting with nct and ai in a complete different company. whenever they have the time (which isn't a lot), they hang out and reassure each other's worries. it's the best friendship ai could ever ask for since coming to korea.

it definitely didn't take long for the both of them to catch feelings.
