APPEARANCE andrew is your average looking asian guy. everything about him is average from his height to his looks. in a crowd he wouldn't stand out, its his friendly personality that draws people in.

STYLE andrew's fashion is pretty nice, very chill but also really neat. he dresses comfortably with that hypebeast aesthetic or athletic attire. he takes his shoes very seriously and is the kind of guy to wait to pre order items. his favorite brands are nike, jordans, supreme, yeezys and balenciaga. it’s really common to see him in basketball shorts for practice and just daily life. he sleeps in underwear and shirtless but he'd go around the dorm in basketball shorts, probably shirtless on his floor. for practice he wears leg sleeves to increase blood flow and reduce the risk of injury.

BACKGROUND

andrew was born in miami florida, usa to chang inhyeop and lee sooah owners of a korean restaurant. he was the only child and lived a good life, they were a middle class family but andrew never felt like they struggled. he had many friends growing up, there weren’t many asians in his school or town but he integrated with the other kids well because of his outgoing personality. when his parents gave him kimchi for lunch and his friends pinched their nose in disgust at the smell he just played along and threw it at them instead of getting offended. as he grew up going to middle school and highschool his friends stayed the same so whenever someone tired to make fun of andrew in anyway they defended him. they even started liking the kimchi he brought to lunch themselves. he had really good friends. in school andrew was known as a class clown in a way, he was smart yet funny. he disrupted the class at times and enjoyed making people laugh but they had to admit that he always did really good on exams. he was living the best of both worlds. one of the only asian kids was one of the most popular kids in school.

he found his love for basketball at a young age. his dad loved playing it so andrew was throwing the ball in the hoop in his backyard since before he could walk. he was naturally gifted with basketball but his family didn’t take his skills very seriously since they didn’t have the tall gene. he joined his middle school basketball team and his coach actually told his parents that he had a lot of potential and recommended him to try out for the junior travel basketball team that competed all around the united states. he didn’t expect to get in because he was the shortest one there but he actually did. even though he was short he was fast and able to navigate through the taller players really well for someone with no formal training. andrew’s skills improved quickly and between school and his school basketball team, he was helping his team win tournaments all around america. in 2015 his team competed in the junior nba global championship. they dominated the regional tournaments and won gold at the global championship that year against international junior teams. out of his team andrew stood out the most for his height and great leadership skills as the point guard.

in highschool his success continued. his schools basketball team was one of the best ranked in the country and andrew fit in well in basketball and school life. at games when the opposing team would say racist things like "open your eyes" or "go back to china" to get him riled up his teammates are the ones that defended him and fought for him. his sports skills attracted many girls and he was just really popular in general. the typical jock guy without the bad grades and douche personality but he was living his best life as the shortest player on the team. every month he had a new girlfriend and had girls lining up to date him. someone like andrew could be making millions from an nba contract and they wanted to be his highschool sweetheart. or at least say that they hooked up with a huge nba star in the future. andrew’s parents saw that he was amazing at basketball so they pushed him and supported him a lot. they were attentive so he followed strict schedule, ate properly, and never missed a practice. as a freshman, he was named class 5A player of the year after leading his team to the state semifinals. he scored a career-high 49 points. as a sophomore, andrew averaged 32 points, seven rebounds and six assists per game, helping his team reach the state title game. he earned class 5A player of the year honors and received all-state honors in each year of highschool until his senior year.

during practice he was playing around with his friends and dunked the ball but swung too much and fell on his knee breaking his kneecap. it was scary for everyone because their star player was on the floor screaming in pain. he had to go in surgery and rehab, he had to sit out of the whole season. schools were still interested in him for basketball but not the big ones he was hoping. his parents also didn’t have the money for prolonged therapy to get him back to top notch skill. by the end of the school year he was able to walk again but he was too scared to join basketball. his parents would have to pay a lot and he wasn’t confident that he’d even make it pro anymore. in the end he chickened out. even though he got a lot of support from his team and his school he felt embarrassed and ashamed for getting hurt. he felt like he was looked down on and they pitied him and saw him as the lost talent. so instead of going to school in florida he ran away to korea to attend jju where no one knows him.

The first thing you notice about the andrew is his energy, he is often chatting, joking, and flirting with friends and strangers alike even if korean isn't his first language. He enjoys engaging playfully with others and amusing everyone around him with his sense of humor. He tends to keep people on their toes, never quite knowing what he will poke fun at next. He is more likely to work a room, having a laugh with everyone, than they are to engage in depth with any one person. But when he does go in depth, you have a friend for life because truly knowing him deeply is rare.

He is people-focused and get along well with just about anyone. He is observant and perceptive, and reads people well. This has the benefit of helping others to feel that they are cared about because he pays attention and responds appropriately. Though he may not always pick up on or prioritize emotional cues, he is quick to notice and respond to tangible needs. He is prone to being a risk taker because he gets bored so easily and makes impulsive decisions out of boredom.

No one will ever call him lazy or uncertain, he is very self-assured and has a can-do approach to life and work. He actually processes information very rapidly and have a knack for improvising as he goes. This makes him excellent in emergency situations because he thinks on the fly and respond reflexively. Because he is a quick thinker and doer, he easily becomes impatient with those who process at a slower pace than he does, who lack their capacity for common sense or street smarts. He is good at giving motivational speeches and strategizing, a skill he developed from being a pointe guard. If you talk to him, he can make you feel like anything is possible with his ethusiasm.

When he sees someone thats upset he'll try to make them feel better because he doesn't like seeing that. He wants everyone to be happy and have a good time. But when it comes to his feeling he keeps that to himself because he only wants others to see the great version of him. Getting so much praise from basketball gave his ego a big boost. The confident, flirty, playful, and charming andrew is the only one that people should know. Not even his best friends know his deep struggles, he always kept it to himself. He was honestly fine before the accident but since then he's been struggling with depression on his own. He wants to be praised again and have others likes him because thats what he thrives on, so when they don't he tries to do whatever he can to gain their approval instead of being satisfied with himself. people know him as this amazing guy thats good at everything, but if they know his deep thoughts they'll see his flaws and to him thats bad. But everyone has flaws, its just about embracing them.

"hello, my name is andrew chang. i'm from miami florida actually and i'm a huge basketball fan. basketball is basically my whole personality haha.."

out of all the colleges in korea, why did you pick jeju university and why your major?

"i wanted a change from miami and my grandma lives here so my parents felt better about it than me going somewhere i would be completely on my own. like i said i love basketball so i want to get into sports medicine, hence kinesiology."

where do you see yourself in 10 years?

"actually i don't know. hopefully in sports med, rubbing shoulders with steph curry. he's my biggest inspiration."

what would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

"i'm really determined when i have goal nothing can stop me. i guess that's a weakness in a way since i take wins and losses very seriously."

"i would prefer someone that loves basketball too so we can watch games together. i don't know anyone here so i want to be friends with my roommate if its possible. i think i'm easy going when it comes to lifestyle habits, just be considerate is all i ask."
