joori is the picture perfect girl that everyone is terrified of but also admire. she’s the girl that your parents compare you to and the reason why your self esteem is so low. there’s never a hair out of place and you’ll never see her do anything wrong. when she walks into the room you could just feel how strong her presence is. she might be small but she’s definitely not weak. joori could have the tallest and biggest guys shaking in their boots by her death glare and how brutal she could be. but that side only comes out when necessary. since she has a reputation to keep she’s kind to everyone that comes her way, then as soon as you walk away she rolls her eyes and goes back to her business. she’s not a big fan of people but acts like she is because she has to since networking is important. but to her everyone is just a means to an end.

she doesn’t really have much tolerance, only people close to her like harang hear about how much listening to people spew stupidity out their mouth drains her. she sees herself as superior to others so her responses can be lowkey condescending. she doesn’t make it too obvious that other people will feel offended though. i mean if you had the best tutors and were top of your class you’d think most people are idiots too. her confidence makes her stubborn and always think she’s right, she’ll take advice to humor the other person but she really doesn’t care what they say. she looks down on others for everything from accents to the way they dress. she would only say those thoughts to her close friends though. after a long day of socializing she needs alone time to recoup and relax. her self care times are important and something that she refuses to skip.
some people say joori is emotionless and cold and they’re sort of right. feelings aren’t her strong point, she can act like she cares but her realist side makes it hard for her to comfort people without telling them the brutal honest truth that the reason their sad is all their fault. she’s good at guiding people in the right direction but it’s not all the time that people want a solution, sometimes they just want support and a shoulder to learn on without hearing that crying doesn’t solve anything. if she’s going through something herself she confides in her close friends, it takes a lot for her to cry. when she’s overwhelmed she might cry for 5 minutes then wash her face with cold water and get over it. when she’s mad her responses would get passive aggressive and she changes the subject or leaves before she could lose her . if she’s really mad but in a panicky way she’d just burst out screaming in frustration. but usually she just deals with her problems in a realistic way, nipping any issue in the as soon as she can and staying away from any drama so her reputation can be clean.

BACKGROUND
forget a silver spoon, joori was born with a gold spoon. both parents came from well off families, a decendant of political figures with her grandpa on her mothers side being the ex president of south korea kim daejung. her parents met at harvard university, they dated for a year before her mom was pregnant with her older brother jooho. they had a shotgun wedding before he was born and they missed their graduation due to jooho being born that same day. they were looked down on by their parents and peers for having a child so early. to make matters worse joori was born a year after her brother.
but even with the constant criticism they refused help from their parents. her parents wanted to prove that they could make it themselves without their help, and prove that their children were a blessing not a mistake. her mom took care of two kids while selling clothes online while her dad worked overtime with a ty consultant job that paid well but his boss . her mom made a good amount of money from selling clothes so she eventually hired models, took more professional pictures and opened her own online store. two years later it took off and she was able to start selling her own designs. today the company is the well known korean fashion brand stylenanda.
while her mom was trying to make her dream come true, so was her dad. after years of brainstorming and trying to get it right he launched coupang in 2010. neither of them expected their companies to be such a huge success but they're basically living proof that dreams could come true. anyways, now that you have the parents stories, time for joori.
as a child she always got everything that she wanted, she recieved a lot of love from both her parents who were amazing parents by the way. she had nothing to complain about when it comes to her childhood. the only thing maybe that her dad wasn't home as often during the weekdays but he made it up during the weekend. as the only girl she was her fathers little princess who could do nothing wrong but he was completely wrong.
at school joori was a nightmare, not in front of the teachers of course. they loved her. a popular kid, she was in every school she ever went to. she went to a private international school for the rich kids of korea and was a proud member of the cheerleading squad and student council. no one had anything bad to say, except for the numerous victims of her bullying. everytime someone had something she wanted, she bullied them for it. she ruined the confidence of girls she thought were prettier than her because she's the prettiest. well technically it wasn't her, she had little minions that did everything she said because being friends with her comes with benefits. elite parties, money, free clothes, discount codes, basically everything a teenage girl could ask for.
towards her last few years of highschool they started accepting scholarship students aka poor kids with amazing grades. kim seyeon was one of them, a quiet yet cute girl that was getting a bit of attention for her good grades and looks and joori hated every second of it. she spent the last three years of highschool making her life a living hell. seyeon was constantly embarrassed and belittled in front of her classmates and none of them said anything. they all knew the influence joori had on the school and society as a whole. her family donated a huge amount every year to the school, and there are rumors that anyone who messes with the kang family mysteriously disappears because of their governmental ties. people were scared of her yet also admired how perfect she was.
during their final year of highschool, the bullying got way worse with seyeon being her main target. joori who was usually top of her class was slipping and seyeon got first place, debunking joori for the first time. joori refused to let it slide, and bullied her over petty things. joori had plans on being valedictorian and being first for their final year, she refused to let seyeon ruin those plans. so she came up with the best plan she could, to blackmail her. joori got her little minions to record them pushing seyeon to the floor, pulling her hair, smacking her, cursing at her, and stripping her to her underwear while she just pleaded and cried. technically joori wasn't there so it didn't have anything to do with her. but seyeon didn't need her to be there to know that she ordered the attack and that she was being blackmailed with that video.
seyeon's grades dropped drastically since then. she failed almost every class and she got one of the lowest score in her school for the college entrance exam. joori became first again and thats all that mattered to her, seyeon was out of her way and she was on the verge of being 1st and valedictorian. but seyeon's life went downhill. she ruined her future, the college entrance exam determined everything for them and she failed it from fear of the video being released. towards the end of the school year it was announced that seyeon committed suicide.
joori didn't feel any kind of guilt because she actually believed it wasn't her fault. she wasn't there, and for all she knows seyeon could've had some personal issues she was dealing with. joori made sure the video was deleted from everyone that had the videos phone. joori got questioned by the police but it was quickly dismissed because her family was good friends with him and she was a seemingly friendly girl. it got quickly removed from search engines too so it wouldn't ruin the schools reputation. none of those involved talked about it after that everyone moved on with their lives. joori graduated as valedictorian, top of her class, and got into robinson university for culture and design management. it was like the whole thing never happened.

DAILY LIFE, ROUTINE!
joori starts her morning with long skincare routine, 30 minute morning yoga followed by a green smoothie and writing positive affirmation in her journal. all her classes are in the morning even though the classes she wanted to take were full because she sent a passive aggressive email reminding them that her parents donate a generous amount to the university and it would be sad for them to lose their funding. so some poor soul get kicked out of her classes so she could fit. she drives to school and gets there 20 minutes before class, she might swing by and pick up harang if she asks. after her three classes she gets lunch and attends any club meetings. then she heads to level station for her internship for a few hours. after that she usually hangs out with harang or some friends getting dinner together before heading home, exercising, watching netflix while doing her nighttime skincare routine, writing in her dairy, and going to sleep. that’s basically how her week goes with slight variations to time and the number of classes during the day.

joori spent her college life studying like any normal student. she traveled during her breaks and went to parties on the weekends. college is way different from highschool in terms of popularity but joori still managed to be well known on campus. from her 4.0 to her luxury style and car, people look up to her and want to be her. she's serious about her reputation and is willing to join causes and clubs she doesn't care about just to further that. all her life she got what she wanted and never struggled once. even with boys, she hooks up with the hot rich guys from other chaebols and jumps them like a sack of potatoes with no strings attached.
since its her third year she had to get an internship. they wouldn't let her intern at her parents companies so she went to harang's parents company instead because she knew she wouldn't have to do much but it'll look good on her resume. at the internship she meets sungjong, he's the first guy that isn't interested in her and that makes her interested in him. but it turns out that he's the older brother of seyeon, the girl she got to commit suicide. neither of them know though, and the more they fall the messier it could get. money has always fixed everything for joori but she doesn't know if it can fix this.

my goal is to be a successful business woman, expand stylenanda to countries beyond asia in cities such as new york, london, paris, los angeles and more. my motto is to not let anyone stand in my way, and i think everyone should have that mindset. it's a dog eat dog world after all.

i imagine people would call me driven, confident, and excuse my language but maybe a little y. although people seem to call most girl bosses who aren't afraid to stand up for themselves that, so i see it as a compliment.

CURRENT STATUS colleagues and acquaintances
THE STORY they meet at their internship, they didn’t talk but have seen each other around. joori didn’t have any opinion on him since he just did his work then left without making many friends but sungjong didn’t like her. she would prance around the office socializing and not doing much since she was a family friend but for some reason the other interns wanted to be friends with her and he couldn’t understand that.
they get to know each other by force after they get assigned to work together for an upcoming project. joori already had a plan so she told him what she wanted to do and expected him to go along since she already had it all planned out. but instead he said he didn’t agree and wanted to do something else. joori asked if she could do it on her own or switch partners but they didn’t let her so she was stuck with mr. argumentative. sungjong was the first person that questioned joori, she was known as a genius everywhere so people just went along with whatever she wanted thinking it was the best. but sungjong was smart too, he got a full scholarship to go to snu and he refused to follow someone blindly.
this leads to many weeks and months of bickering and long nights trying to come up with a good idea that they agree on. everytime it seems like they’re going somewhere they just argue all over again. between all the arguing and getting on each other’s nerves they actually kinda realize they’re not that bad. when they aren’t at each other’s throats debunking each other’s ideas with logic and facts, they pretty good conversations. both are actually surprised that the other is able to keep up with their intellect and five deep into topics that most people would scratch their heads about. their arguing turns more into pleasant debates as they spend more and more time together trying to reach the deadline for their project. eventually hanging out because they genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
INTERACTIONS despite bickering like an old married couple, their personalities are pretty similar. it could be seen in the little things they do like both crossing their arms or silently mumbling the correct answer under their breath after someone gets it wrong. they both care about their outer appearance so in public they act cordial but in private they go right back to arguing about what was said in front of everyone. they really only have two modes, arguing and intellectual talk.
it’s clear that they’re friends because sungjong keeps a safe distance from her at all times, he isn’t experienced in the dating department and it shows. when they do develop feelings joori would be the aggressor and do things first because he’s such a… well he calls it a gentleman but she calls it a chicken. manner hands are important to him and he knows how to treat a lady like open the door and walk on the side of the street. he would do things like that to show that he cares.
if they ever date they wouldn’t show much affection in public. he would keep doing the little things like fix anything out of place on her or stand behind her when on an escalator so no one looks up her skirt. he would be lowkey protective in that kind of way. he wouldn’t mind standing in the background so she could shine or doing what she says but he’d tell her when she’s wrong in a subtle way to not make her embarrassed. he’d be the perfect companion to those elite parties because he’s intelligent and polite. they’d sneak away from the party when it gets too draining because even though they’re together it’s not tiring. they’d have a lot of chill stay at home dates and can sit together in silence doing their own thing without it being awkward. he’s basically the guy she didn’t know she was looking for.

sungjong is a sweet guy, he’s quiet but friendly and comes off as down to earth. he cares about others, everyone, and wants to help as much as he can. he would always volunteer with his family, her passing really made that part of him increase because he doesn’t want to see others struggling. he might be more of a listener than a talker but he won’t stand for any bullying. he refuses to let people take advantage of his kindness, nice doesn’t mean stupid. he isn’t a confrontational person, he likes to keep the peace but won’t tolerate someone belittles him in any way. he’s very smart but not once does he look down on other people for it, he helps them instead.
