TL;DR – there's been so many trainees who used to be in the line-up for blackpink appearing on television for a redemption arc or finally debuting in a lesser-than-known group and clearly, choi yeowool isn't that exception. scorned from being brutally executed right before debut, yeowool is out for revenge. sure, she could try to execute her energy into something else worthwhile but it is requires so much more effort to lie down in a self-pity grave than to prove to those who did not see her worth that she is in fact, worthy and meant to debut.

choi yeowool is what mnet loves to edit: vindictive, on the mean-side, someone that riles up the people's emotions and opinions on whether she's a rotten apple to the core or just a sad girl who doesn't know how to express herself. still, they simply could not pass up on the opportunity to cast another one of yg's failures much like they did on the produce series, both jinny and seoyoung embarrassing themselves to no end. at least that's what yeowool thinks when she sees the girls heavily follow the woe-is-me story line which is probably why they failed to make it into the final group. shaking her head, she closes the laptop after viewing the old footage of her teammates, her pity dissipating when she realizes just how far seoyeon, miyeon and jinhee have come and finally debuted.
just why did it take this long for her to achieve her own dreams? oh yeah, that's right...the amount of arguing she had to do with yeojin to even get to the point of auditioning again; even having to promise her older sister that if she did not make it this time, yeowool would have to financially provide for herself due to her brother-in-law's newfound obsession with frugality. despite the stressful proposition, yeowool relishes in the fact that she is able to be in charge of her own life again and not having to obey her sister's every command. besides, she would rather get thrown out on the streets than have to bow to anyone even if blood is supposedly thicker than water. it did not matter if yeojin had to take on the role of a secondary mother at the age of twenty-seven, for it was the least she could do after giving their mother such a hard way to go growing up before losing her battle to a rare illness.
but that doesn't stop yeojin and her consistent nagging on what yeowool should be doing with her life and what not. "being an idol is immature!" she'd start, "you're too old for this nonsense. if you attend school, i could easily have damjoo get you a job at his office." except, she does not care for anymore handouts from anyone, especially the likes of her sister's selfish husband. she would prove yeojin wrong, that she was worth this dream of hers despite the hardships of being dropped from a huge company like yg.
...and then, she meets the girls of the dream4u project and unfortunately realizes the many levels between herself and the rest.
they're not even...good, barely decent.
a couple are OK, others only making the show cause of weird or strong connections and then there's she, choi yeowool with the talent for singing and dancing, having to step to the forefront to save another evaluation or performance. and it hardly gets better. she uses the foundation of her yg training to one-up the others but then she's criticized for sounding too yg-generic and this slightly deflates yeowool's ego a bit, when all people have ever praised her for was being apart of yg and her skills. then if that isn't enough, the least talented of the bunch is steady receiving fantastic remarks on the show whereas she is struggling to receive even good remarks or points.
even if she was chosen, with this weird mash-up of atrocious skills, how would they ever achieve greatness or sucess like that of blackpink or twice? the pre-debut group that she was brutally cut from and made to leave the comapny altogether when yeojin caught wind of the situation, was eons better than dream4u and yet, here she stood amongst them. would it have been better if she'd remained in the dungeons and over-exert herself or was the small sliver of fame she'd never seen for herself, worth all the trouble?
well, hell yes, it was worth it if it meant that she could stare into that camera with a victorous smile, showcasing her pretty face and reminding those who ever slept on choi yeowool exactly what they were missing out on.
BACKGROUND – she watches as her cellphone's screen lights up, her mind not fully made up before she silences it altogether. what would be the point now in answering a phone call that would only beg her to quit this childish dream of hers? still, she does not miss the notification indicating that she has a fresh voicemail waiting for her ears later. abruptly, she stands to her feet and notices one of the trainees cautiously eyeing her, the concern evident on her pretty face. cho miyeon eventually parts her lips and asks that god-forsaken three-word phrase and yeowool replies with a gruff, "yes, i'm fine." except, she knows something is brewing in the pits of her stomach...that thing they call "a woman's intuition" is never wrong.
yeowool remembers the days when she would run home from school, a warmed up pastry awaiting her at the kitchen table of the quaint apartment she resided in with her hardworking mother. her mother being the breadwinner of the family, having single-handedly taken care of her and her older sister, yeojin without any complaints, is where yeowool gets her fighting spirit naturally. she also starts to remember the times that yeojin (being fifteen years her senior) would argue with their mother about living in the slums of seoul and forever embarrassed about it. still, yeowool likes to think her childhood was fair and tolerable, despite the not-so-great conditions her sister was ungrateful for.
except, that all changes when their mother falls ill and both daughters are at a complete loss of what to do next. yeojin had moved from the slums to gangnam, engaged to a prosecutor and had disregarded the yeojin who used to be humble for a high-society version whereas twelve-year-old yeowool was her mother's spitting image, spirited and stubborn. then the following spring, yeowool was uprooted from the confines of the newly vacant apartment that she had grown to love into the modernized gangnam apartment, never fully welcomed but tolerated. choi yeojin married the love of her life in the next season, right after their mother's death and yeowool was added to the family registry but not without indignation.
her dream of becoming an idol had kicked up when she found herself attending the school of arts (courtesy of her brother-in-law's money) with those who were training to become singers or actors, her interest totally piqued. but what solidified that curiosity was when she was made to participate in a grand presentation to award all those students who walked the same halls as her, of their newfound careers as superstars and quite frankly, yeowool wanting a sip from the same fountain of fame brought this to the only guardian who could veto or approve her wish.
fourteen year old yeowool pitches this grand idea of becoming an idol to her sister who she knows can easily foot the expenses if she allows it. unsure of it, yeojin confides in her husband who is all the more wanting to send the girl to an entertainment company for the lack of responsibility in raising her would be far less daunting, since her time will be well occupied. selfish for time alone, yeowool's brother-in-law starts putting money aside for yeowool's dance classes and vocal lessons, ensuring that she receives what his money is worth so she can get out of the apartment sooner. then, fifteen year old yeowool starts venturing out to auditons with companies, the top three amongst them. jyp considers her, sm doesn't particularly like her visuals but yg is the one who ultimately decides to give her a chance, adding her to the pinkpunk pre-debut line up for good measure and filling out the last spot of nine.
but then the next two years pass by and yeowool has maxed out her trainee potential, watching as others are eliminated from the line-up and sent back to the training rooms for more practice. but that only leaves lisa, jennie, jisoo, chaeyoung, miyeon and she, sizing each other up and wondering who could or would be next to pack pride and return back to level one.the notification bings louder, pulling yeowool out of her daydream to focus back on stretching her limbs when miyeon clears and drawing attention to the door. there stood one of the staff members, his face pinched but otherwise not revealing any emotions. "choi yeowool," he huffs, his beady eyes darting to the cellphone in hand before returning to her, "the training director would like to have a word with you."

when your main focus is acheivement followed by pride and wanting everyone to know just what they missed out on, you'd appear at a show like this and audition until your heart can't take it anymore. this is an opportunity that isn't so easily come by and yeowool would simply be a fool to allow this to pass by her. she misses dancing and singing for audiences and more so, she misses being in front of a camera as the staff fawns and coo all over her. she never belonged cooped up in a office, or stuck behind the counter of a coffee shop or grocery store for miss choi yeowool was meant for the industry. even if the industry doesn't seem to love her back as equally.
