• the baby isn't coming, she tells you as she combs through your hair gently. she says she's sorry, that she's a terrible mother. you can hear your father complaining about numbers in the living room. you're bored.
• your father drops you off at daycare for the first time, leaving you by yourself outside the door. he tells you to make as many friends as you can and to behave, he'll get you that new barbie you wanted if you don't make a fuss, before he leaves. you like barbies. you can make them do anything you want. you don't know what a friend is, but you think that if barbie's do what you want, so can they.
