My Top 10 Hated K-pop Girls

So I think I’m doing this mainly because it’s been on my mind as I continue to watch the lists of top ten girl groups and their songs as they come out for 2014 (I’m also having writer’s block so hopefully this will clear that up). I just realized that I just really for almost no reason at all hate some of these girls. Some of them actually ruin their entire groups for me and I can’t listen to the group’s song without feeling bitter.

I just want to make this very clear before you read this list. IT IS MY OPINION. It no way represents multiple people’s opinions. In fact, I’m hoping some of you can change my mind about these people, so that I can enjoy their music more.

I also promise to provide facts and examples as to why I hate these people. I won’t just say they’re ugly because that’s not true at all. I actually think that some of the people on the list are extremely pretty. I just need to get this off my chest. Without further ado:

My Top Ten Hated K-pop Girls

10. Hyuna (4minute)

I think everyone knew that she was going to appear on the list somewhere. First off let’s make this clear that this girl is gorgeous. I’m not positive if the rumors about her getting plastic surgery are true, but if they are, I’m going to the doctor she went through. I have a very interesting opinion about her. I love her, but hate her at the same time. Her songs are super catchy and I do think she has some talent.

What I hate about Hyuna is how Cube chose to market her. The picture above is a perfect example of them making her over ualized. She gorgeous obviously, but seriously? I just feel like she isn’t marketed right and that’s why I hate Hyuna the stage personality. Normally, the girl comes across as being very sweet and has repeatedly said she doesn’t act like she does on stage and I believe her.

She also has a lot of talent in dancing, but instead of Cube taking advantage of that they just make her twerk. I love her music, but I hate how she’s marketed.

(Video of her interacting with a kid that I found differed greatly from her stage personality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fPHJMTKF6U)

(Video of her dancing with more style than appeal. The thing Cube should have worked on training more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFz2FhQP8TM)

9. Bora (Sistar)

This one is a little hard for me to describe. I guess I see why people as a whole can hate Sistar as a group because they do y concepts that can sometimes walk the fine line between y and, I’ll be honest, cheap y. I love this group and they’re definitely in my top four girl groups. My defense for them is that they were all crazy talented, even Dasom who had been the weakest in the group started showing off nice vocals this past year (Yes they’re not that special, but it mixes well with the group).

What I think doesn’t mix well with the group is Bora’s rapping usually. I think she might be one of the most over rated female rappers in the industry. Yes, I would say she may be more over rated than Hyuna (sometimes…). Now that Dasom’s singing I find that she is the weakest in talent among them, even though she can dance.

I just feel that her rapping doesn’t really match most of Sistar’s songs. It’s easier for me to point out the title songs (Touch My Body and So Cool) where her rapping actually matched the mood of the song than it is when she didn’t. She also receives constant praise for her looks, but honestly (this is completely my opinion) I don’t think she’s really that pretty compared to other idols. She’s still pretty though obviously. I think my main reason for disliking her is that she seems to detract away from the other members and their talents. Not much of a reason and yet I still dislike her.

(For evidence try listening to So Cool (1:33-1:47) it matches the mood of the song well. Then listen to Give it To Me (2:23-2:36) the tone sounds similar to me even though the songs are different and it seems like they played the music louder to try and cover up how forceful her rapping can be.)

8. Wendy (Red Velvet)

I can keep this one short and simple. She said things that I personally find insulting by imitating various stereotypes on multiple occasions. I just find that not okay not matter who is doing it.

(Here is an article written about it: http://www.allkpop.com/article/2014/11/internationals-netizens-criticize-red-velvets-wendy-for-her-impression-of-white-and-black-people)

Although I was disappointed that those around her laugh I can understand her need to try and stand out and be funny in the group. I just don’t like the way she chose to do it. Since Stereotyping is something I take very seriously because of my mixed heritage and being bullied when I was younger because of my mixed heritage. I find this very hard to hear about especially when someone who wasn’t born in South Korea and should know better does something like this.

The reason that I’m not putting her a lot higher on the list is that she debuted recently and I don’t want to completely hate her and put her up higher on the list (she was originally switched number 6). I just have hope that maybe she’ll somehow make up for this since she is still in that awkward I just became a K-pop idol phase.

(For further information about this one check out my blog post: http://www.asianfanfics.com/blog/view/961078)

7. Dara (2NE1)

2NE1 is one of my favorite groups if not my very favorite, but I find myself wondering why Dara is in it. Besides the fact that Dara is gorgeous and she does have a charming personality, she doesn’t really bring much to this awesome girl group. YG attracts a lot of very talented people and I wonder why she hasn’t been swapped out for someone who is very talented. Maybe hate isn’t the right word for her. Maybe I just don’t find her interesting enough to take notice of anything she does. I just find it odd that I could be completely okay with her being swapped out for another girl, even though I love 2NE1.

(For evidence listen to any 2NE1 song and see how often she contributes to the song. I also sometimes find her voice annoying.)

6. Hyoyeon (SNSD)

So I’ll start off by saying that she is underrated when considering the members of SNSD. However, I also feel like she gets overrated when people start talking about the best dancers in the K-pop industry. No doubt she is in the top ten. I want to make that clear that she is an amazing dancer right now before I somewhat contradict that.

I feel like she is not the best dancer. She often gets praised for doing a lot of basic hip hop moves that most guys in boy groups can do. I think what makes a great female dancer is either completely erasing your femininity during a dance or somehow being feminine while dancing well. I think she can accomplish the first one, but I find that she lacks a bit at the second one. Another thing is that she tends to look, so good dancing it attracts away from the other members and they’re over all cohesiveness.

I also find her personality off putting at times. I think she overestimates herself just a bit and I can’t stand that. I do also realizes that this could just be me taking the things she says the wrong way.

(Beginning of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8nZCiI8dhY Although I can see where she’s coming from I feel like she gives two positives to herself instead of something to improve on.)

I also struggled a bit placing her at a number on the list. Honestly, she could be switched with Dara depending upon the day.

5. Suzy (Miss A)

Honestly, I think she might be the second most overrated female K-pop star in the industry. Yes she’s pretty and yes she has vocal talent, but I find that there is just a lot of hype and arrogance behind her. I find that she seems insincere at times. I love Miss A, but as I learned more and more about Suzy I began to be less attracted to them as a group.

Whenever Miss A is brought up the conversation goes to how pretty and talented she is. Honestly I prefer Min’s vocals over hers, but I also do prefer lower voices and she has a higher pitched voice. She also seems to act very entitled to things and shows little emotion when receiving awards. Not only that, but there are major rumors floating around about her attitude. Perhaps if it was one or two I wouldn’t really factor it in, but there are so many that point to her that it’s hard to ignore. She also seems very distant from the other members and seems to act like she is above them at times.

(Article and video of her acting somewhat entitled: http://www.soompi.com/2013/12/31/suzy-is-harshly-criticized-for-her-behavior-during-2013-mbc-drama-awards/. It seems not like she’s nervous, but rather like she doesn’t care that she forgot her speech.)

(Rumors about her: http://www.asianjunkie.com/2013/04/media-runs-malicious-rumor-about-miss-as-suzy-that-was-found-on-message-board-journalism/)

4. Ailee

I want to try and talk about her in a logical way, but this girl just continually pisses me off. She’s not higher on the list because she’s not in a girl group, so I can easily annoy her. My biggest issue with her is her over confidence. Confidence is something that I don’t see as a bad thing. I actually enjoy seeing idols with a sense of confidence like CL(2NE1), Gyuri (Kara) and Kahi(Former After School). I’d say out of  those three she’s closest to Gyuri in personality, but somehow her confidence comes across as awkward and too much. It makes me feel awkward seeing her address some people with too much ease and pretend that they’re close. She also tends to try and upstage people when they perform together in a way that makes me cringe a bit.

(For example check the interview with Hyolyn (Sistar) during the rival special in which she acts overly confident and very close to Hyolyn at inappropriate times.)

(Upstaging: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QKQNZNUJZA (2:00). Although it may be debatable if Hyolyn deserved to get that note the fact is she did. The other performer decided to stand still, but Ailee chose to pretend it was her singing it and go all out for it. I found that a bit rude honestly.)

I also find myself hating her because of the rivalry between her and Sistar’s Hyolyn. I think they’re both really equal on the vocal spectrum it comes down to which type of soprano you prefer. It’s amazing how people get so insulted by the Korean Beyoncé thing. I find that both fan groups lash at each other too much. In my opinion Hyolyn is the Korean Beyoncé because she is more similar to her style in both appearance and performance. In shorter words she can dance which is a big part of Beyoncé. I’d say Ailee is more of a Christina Aguilera. I also find the way her fans defend her sometimes to be of putting. The same can be said for Hyolyn’s fans though.

(Scroll down and read some of the comments from the last video)

3.  Sulli (F(x))

I don’t even know where to start from with this one. This girl has caused so many problems for her group and even some other groups. I want to give her compliments like I do with the others on the list, but my mind draws a blank. She has completely turned me off to anything that she does. I won’t even use her recent dating scandal in this list.

She left her group because she was “sick”, but then posts instigram photos almost a day later and using that as a cover up to what she wants. Maybe if it wasn’t in the middle of promotions and closer to the end of them I would understand, but F(x) was finally getting some recognition and she just ruined it. She also stated that she wanted to focus on her acting career, but being honest she can’t act very well. She acts very cheesy and cringe worthy, ‘To the Beautiful You’ is a great example of that.

(Article: http://www.allkpop.com/article/2014/07/fxs-sulli-to-take-a-temporary-hiatus-from-her-activities-red-light-promotions-revealed-to-have-come-to-an-end Another Article: http://www.allkpop.com/article/2014/07/fxs-sulli-ill-with-cold-unable-to-film-for-music-bank)

Then there’s the whole she never apologizes thing. That is partially SM’s fault, but still she should have apologized for using a Chinese swear word. Now there was the whole ‘I’m going to troll the world by fake dating Taemin thing’ (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.151380628239194.28749.127144553996135&type=3) Although it may have possibly been true and half of it was fan based she continued to give fire to the rumors and that sincerely annoyed me.

She’s just scandal after scandal and she detracts away from the other members of the group. I also think she purposely acts cute which I find extremely annoying. The with the constant scandals I can’t take her seriously. I also find that leaving the group in an act of selfishness is hardly anything commendable.

2. Minah (Girl’s Day)

This is another one where I can’t find any compliments to give her other than sometimes she can be a good dancer. Otherwise I find myself more often than not wanting to claw her eyes out for multiple reasons. The main one being the over use of aegyo that makes my eyes and ears feel like they’re bleeding. Although she has calmed down recently her early activities have been enough to prevent me from liking Girl’s Day.

I think she might possibly be the rudest girl on this list. I mean things like wanting to prove you’re good happen very often on variety shows, but she may be the only one who will tell people that she is better than her seniors in direct words. I find that to be extremely rude. Other people have done this before, but they usually do this with the backing of someone else, but she does it rudely to get attention.

( Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms24lbemGO8 I think that challenging a senior that obviously is rude, but in my opinion she still lost which makes it seem even ruder.)

Not only that, but she acts innocent when she does things like that and that pisses me off even more. People like Kara’s Gyuri act over confident a lot, but you can see that sometimes they don’t believe what they’re saying or are joking. I don’t see her joking around.

I also find that she is regarded as the best singer of Girl’s day, but she makes mistakes dancing and sometimes hits notes out of tune. Which isn’t that odd considering members of both boy groups and girl groups make a lot of mistakes. It’s the simple denial that she’s done anything wrong that upsets me. She also get more parts in performances with people who I consider better at performing than her. I think she got overrated.

There is no doubt I can understand trying to get noticed and get you group ahead, but just thinking about the amount of seniors she had to insult and claw at to get to the top makes me disgusted with her.

(She is one of the people I’m hoping you can convince me to like so maybe I can listen to a Girl’s day song without being pissed.)

1. Taeyeon (SNSD)

I think that Taeyeon is the most OVERRATED K-pop star to ever live. That sounds vicious, but it’s hard not to be when there’s constant praise flowing to her and I can’t understand why. There’s the obvious vocal talent, but I would say that she’s no longer the best, even though she is notable. Her fans will defend her to the end by insulting almost everyone else brought up to defend her. She’s good, but I don’t think she’s that good.

The only good thing that I think she’s ever done is date Baekhyun believe it or not. Power to her for doing that. I always choose to believe in love and clearly she does too.

She also happens to be one of the only SNSD members to quite forwardly deny plastic surgery even though she has had some procedures done. Is it all the things people are saying, probably not, but the eye lid surgery had to be done. (https://yoontaeyeon.wordpress.com/2012/12/18/news-snsds-plastic-surgery-has-unveiled-yoonayurijessicatiffanytaeyeonsunnyhyoyeon/) Plastic surgery doesn’t really bother me it’s just the fact that she denies it that bothers me.

I sometimes find her attitude weird, but that is probably just my personal opinion about people like her and not liking that personality.

My main hate for her stems from the sheer preferential treatment she gets for being pretty and the “best” singer in the industry. I think both of those things don’t have an actual answer, but for some reason she keeps being chosen. I don’t think that she is the prettiest or most talented girl in the industry and I am annoyed that I have to keep seeing it. I’m not saying that she’s ugly or untalented; I just don’t think she is the best.

Also with the coming to light of Jessica’s departure from the group she was one of the members the fandom was really looking on to shed some light on the situation and give support, but she seemed detached and uninterested in the subject. She was obviously dealing with a lot, but it would have been nice if she as the leader provided some support to the sones out there who were struggling and confused about the situation. That happens to be one of the main reasons I dislike her, but this could be my misunderstanding as well.

So I hope this list was at least an entertaining read. If you couldn’t understand why someone was hating on your bias maybe this might help. Feel free to provide some people to the list or give me reasons why someone shouldn’t be on the list. However, please do respect my opinion. I’ll answer to everything as long as you aren’t swearing at me.

Thank you for reading!

For those of you saying that Taeyeon "forced Jessica out of the group," in all the articles I read, Jessica was already planning to leave the group in 2015. "Divine" was supposed to be her last single with GG but then Jessica decided she wanted to go on hiatus to work on her jewelry line and then come back to the group most likely to gain more success. If you call Taeyeon selfish and mean, jessica's the one that is selfish. She literally abandonded her group to work on her own dreams and the jewelry line was only successful because she was known as SNSD's Jessica. She used the groups popularity to get whats she wants. So technically, Taeyeon did not force Jessica out of the group. I don't hate Jessica but I felt like she should have just told the truth that it was her choice to leave instead of pushing the blame on the group in her post. For the author's " MY Top 10 Hated K-pop Girls" I don't really hate neither of them since I enjoy the music produced in the groups. However I disagree with Taeyeon being the most overrated. her songs are good and so are her vocals and her apperance. She is technically the best "singer" in the history so you shouldn't doubt her voice. What I like about Taeyeon is that she is trying to improve herself. Shes getting better in dancing, and im pretty sure dring her trainee days, she worked very hard to get to her position. The only idol that is overrated that I agree with you is f(x)'s Sulli. She did cause many problems for the group! f(x) is a very talented group, and her group members suffered because of it! Sulli is definely that most hated k pop girl in my opinion ( there might be some spelling mistakes)

This kind of is so ing petty and basic. Why and how can you hate someone that you don't even know? These idols trained years and have to go through so much ing . Yes, Dara might not be the best singer and Bora may not be the best rapper but you are not forced to listen to them. If you don't like an idols image then don't watch them on variety shows or skip their parts. Taeyeon is a good vocalist and a charming lady and she has deserved her spot in the industry. Is it not enough that haters like you have ruined Sulli's self image? If you don't like her instagram posts then DON'T ING FOLLOW HER ON INSTAGRAM! And what's wrong with being a little confident like Hyoyeon? Since when did confidence=arrogance?
thenamesmeep #3
And I never really understand how people don't like Dara but like 2ne1. To me, they're a packaged Dela and you can't take one without the others. I'd say personally that you like Boom, minzy, and CL. Not 2ne1, seeing as 2ne1 is all four of them. But that's just my inner black jack talking.
thenamesmeep #4
I completely agree with the taeyeon and hyoyeon one. I love SNSD but Taeyeon doesn't bring it all like people say. And to call Hyoyeon the best female dancer in Kpop is just plain ridiculous. She's amazing, yes. But not the best.

And the thing with Dara is that she doesn't have a loud bold voice. Her vocals are soft and sweet while the rest of 2ne1 bring the loud. YG calls Dara the fresh vocals of 2NE1 because of that. Without Dara the group wouldnt have that right combination of sweet and powerful. If you still don't believe that Dara isn't any good, check out CBH acoustic. Listen to her in missing you. Or Lonely. I personally like her voice. But that's my opinion. Not to mention the fact that Dara was famous before debut and is responsible for over half of the Filipino fans that 2ne1 has. She's the visual that draws people in with her sweet personality and beautiful vampire looks. She handles a lot of things involving te group. That's why shes important. And Dara wasnt orginaly goin to be in the group. She was suppose to be an actress. But i wont tell that whole story, you can look it up yourself . in just about every group the visual doesn't do much or sing much. They're mostly just...there. And honestly, nobody would be able to pull of being in 2NE1. That's why when minzy officially leaves the group no new member will be added.

sorry for ranting, as you can see I'm a hardcore blackjack since the beginning. and sorry for and grammar and punctuation mistakes. I'm typing on a tablet, haha.
case-of-fortunes #5
I actually agree on the whole Taeyeon being the most overrated idol there is. I feel the same way everytime I see Yoona topping visual charts. Its like I admire the fans' loyalty but lets be real here, I've seen and heard better. They have the talent, the looks but I won't say they're number 1.
But all that aside one of the previous commenter was right, don't focus so much on the idol. Just enjoy their song.
Ps; I'm curious, have ur opinion changed even the slightest since this was posted?

ok so i read ur post and i respect ur opinion . i have similar opinion like urs except wendys ...welll mostly bcuz she is my ultimate bias in kpop industry and i have never seen anyone like her .... and u said u r ready to like them than i think u shuld giv wendy a chance....i agree that her Stereotyping was not a good idea and its quite a sensitive issue but that girl was cleraly trying to joke ...and im sure she ididnt mean any harm . Shes really charming and has a great personality ... shes the queen of derp and im sure youll like her ... it would be awsome if u give her a chance and watch their variety shows... i hope u do that and i respect ur opinions ... peace )!

I totally agree with the taeyeon and Suzy statement &' red velet Wendy ? Oh there's not a chance of me ever liking her , I'm mixed heritage too &' the fact that she grew up in a place where it's MULTI cultural ? &' she did those impressions , made her look extremely stupid . Do you remember that statement that was made by taeyeon when she said Alicia keys was pretty for a black person ? I found that extremely racists and she never apologized for it . How you she like it if somebody said she's pretty for a asian girl ?

Anyway, the purpose of these huge posts was to make you give GsD a chance(and also sharing opinions about the others as well), but it seems that it turned out as a delulu over-protective fan comment xD.
In my opinion, you should just listen to the music and simply not think things like "ah, this is the part where certain member I don't like sings". Just listen to the music. If you like it- sure, that's cool. If you don't like it- that's cool too, what's the point of making a big post where you're going into details explaining why you don't like it.
Author-nim, I'm a reader of your story (FC) and I wish you best in writing it~ Fighting!
P.S.: God forbid I offended anyone with this. Sorry if I did tho.

I totally agree on the Taeteon and Suzy tho- Taeyeon, in my opinion, is way overrated for her looks (which, also, I don't really find that outstanding) and singing. Yeah, cool, she's been singing from 2009? -correct me if I'm wrong, I don't quite follow SNSD- and let's not forget she probably has some of the best vocal trainers to help her. Anyway, the thing that put me off from Tae was her behaviour towards Jessica. I somewhat stumbled upon some articles on allkpop about how those two stopped getting along ever since some Japan tour. Apparently, they had a quarrel, Jessica did something wrong that upset Taeyeon so she stayed mad- but for how long? Simply, she's being the out of them (excuse my french) and didn't seem to give two s about Jess anymore. Basically, she was acting childish, because in all of the gifs I've seen Jessica is trying to get along, but being childish, the other one simply ignores her. Being the leader, I think that's not the way she should handle things. Besides, if in front of the cameras all she could do was not mind the member, imagine what she was like off-cams. That raises some question marks too.
Now- the Suzy thing - I'm not that informed on Miss A(lol) as much as I'm on Girls' Generation, but from those links you posted I noticed too that she's somehow an outcast. I mean, I understand that in a girl group not all of them can be unique, outstanding, over talented snowflakes, but I also understand the other members' points of view. I'd be mad too if I worked my off in a group, but to only have one member recognised.
gonna continue this again lmao

The reason Minah has used in the past excessive aegyo was to get Girl's Day noticed. In variety shows, there are some points where you're told what you're supposed to do; in other cases, they simply cut your parts if you don't do what the MC's are saying or simply something worth broadcasting. I've watched videos, but the only one where I saw her saying stuff like being better than her seniors- I don't remember the show- was where she said in the future she would do better than Miss A's Min-again, not sure if Miss A, but that's the band I associate the name Min with- and they did a kkap? dance battle thingy. If she didn't say that she would have most probably been cut. Girl's Day come from a small company, who at that time didn't have enough capital to advertise them and stuff. So the best thing they could do in variety was trying to get attention. I'd never understand people saying x is a try-hard, what an attention etc, because well, would you rather see someone not trying at all? I think it's good that she was willing to give up her image, pride to finally get her band recognition. They worked so hard to get where they're now and I find it unfair when people criticize for that. (gonna post a cont. to this one)

Sumhow bf i read this, i sumwhat feel that Hyo, my ultimate bias, will end up in this list. oh well. These gals are doing wat they could eventho their actions are very likely and most prob controlled by the PRs and investors. They are already treated like products, to generate the most moneys possible bf their time is up. They seem fake? Yup cos they have to. They have an image and persona to sell to the public, and the more public clamor for them in this manner, the more they are expected to act like dis. cos they are expected to sell. its sad. It must be mentally and physically tiring for them to be stuck in the same role from debut - progression is allowed oni if the public buys that new image. They have no or little chance to experience real life like the rest of us ordinary folks, and when they are able to do so and show their real self, they are labeled fake cos that was not how they behaved in public. well i find kpop artists admirable, cos i dun have the patience nor the talent to maintain and keep these traits up.

I just have to keep reminding myself that everyone has their own opinion.

Hello!! authornim! first of all. i'd like to say i'm one ur big fan and ur story Who are you?
Secondly, thank u for ur decision of continue writing this amazing story.
And i love ur honest opinions and it is entertaining and most of the points u have is the same with me.
I'd like to say the thing about taeyeon. u're not weird about thinking her personality like that. I'm not her anti fan but me and most of my friends who are not their fans could clearly see that her personality is not good and she only think about herself first,
that's quite reasonable when u r juz a member of the group but she's a leader. And all the other kpop group leaders are kind and considerate but that's not who she is.
About dating thing, i don't mind but she has many dating rumours before and i feel that she is competing with her members of who's going to get a better and more popular boyfriend. in my opinion, she feels small that yoona, sooyoung, jess and tiff got better boyfriends so she quickly decide to choose one who is from currently the most popular group. please don't swear at me coz it's my own opinion too :D
About jess's thing, well it's quite obvious. she has no problems with her agency like EXO,SJ former members but her problem is from the inside. her group. i don't want to say it out loud. i'm sure u get the idea.
so yeah these are my opinions about her, sorry if my comments are long ^^ good day authornim ^^
