appearance. isaac inherited his father's height but his mother's face, standing at an appalling height of 188 cm and in possession of a warm yet striking countenance. unfortunately, he walks with an awkward gait, with one's shoulders raised and the top of one's body bent forward. because he is on call most days, he finds very little time or need to take care of his outward appearance, although he is very strict with his physical training. his expressions are soft and mature, and when he smiles, there is an undeniable genuineness and sincerity. he has brown, single-lidded or fox eyes - typical of the korean male demographic and high cheekbones. his hair is black - brown in the sunlight. in important meetings or medical conferences, it's pretty neat and he makes the effort to use gel but mostly when he's on-shift, it's slightly mussed or disheveled in the trendy, unintentional just-woken-up-way. he has a lean, athletic profile as he works out but it's not very obvious because of his doctor's coat and the way he carries himself (hunched, unfortunately). his colleagues and patients say he's actually quite handsome but he denies this consistently. i'm just average, he says. he has perfect vision.
fashion sense. at home, he tends to wear very minimalist clothes - a plain white/ black shirt and jeans. maybe one of those embarrassing tracksuits you only wear at home when he's feeling particularly unattractive. when it's cold, he wears these dorky, kid-style socks his aunt, who lives in new jersey, keeps sending him. when he's out with friends and family, anything clean will do for him and he'll normally opt for comfortable sneakers and skinny jeans. when he's at the hospital, he's always wearing patterned/ dark-coloured sweaters or nice dress shirts and his tan/ black slacks that are folded up at the ankles. he prefers to wear dark-coloured clothes for two reasons: one, he finds them more professional and two, the stains won't be so obvious if you drop food on yourself, which he does. a lot.

personality. isaac is whole-hearted in everything he does and when decisions are made, there's no going back. he finds that his personality fits in with his medical background in that doctors need to be confident and one-hundred percent sure of their decisions. generally, he fully respects the decisions of his seniors but because he is strong-minded, he'll often dispute these decisions or go against hospital protocol if he feels in his gut, it would have been more beneficial for the patient had it been done differently. this is an issue that has landed him in hot water in the past. having gone through years and years of training and becoming a resident, it has cleared a lot of his doubts since starting at the hospital. previously, he suffered from acute anxiety - mostly due to years of relentless studying and the pressures associated with it, and which was further compounded when he started as an intern. gradually over the years, he no longer suffers from anxiety. he thanks experience and his colleagues whom he has befriended and have received boundless support from. there is a sense of responsibility that comes naturally with being a resident but isaac is the epitome of responsibility. he is one-hundred-and-ten percent with his patients all the way. while he quietly notes it is important to maintain a professional distance with his patients, he consistently maintains that responsibility is paramount when treating patients and he would often call to check how they are even when patients have been discharged. he's passionate at what he does, is quick and efficient. although he seems to be out-of-it or drowsy in his facial expressions, he treats every situation with a no-nonsense attitude to quickly assess the issue and administer medication or further tests. on breaks, he rolls a mat on the ground in one of the medication store rooms to catch up on sleep or he pigs out in the cafeteria. being a resident is hard work and he believes that if he's going to make it through the day alive, he's going to need sustenance and sleep. he's easy-going and friendly in a warm puppy-like way. he's a favourite among nurses and female patients over the age of forty because of his charming, boyish nature - which he finds incredibly awkward. because of this, his juniors like to call him 'han-some' as a joke and to aggravate him in a playful way. unlike most residents/ hospital higher-ups who are aloof and strict, he's a lot softer on his interns and because of this, it gets him into a lot of trouble when interns are found to have made errors. without the enforcement of strict rules and instructions, his interns are often subjects of concern for other residents who believe that isaac should be a little fiercer when dealing with newcomers. thus, his seniors often chastise or give him verbal beatings to be more careful with how he's training his interns. isaac knows its important to keep the interns in line and well-disciplined, but he can't help giving them his tender-loving-care. when he was completing his own internship, he had one of the most awfully severe and inflexible mentors that cared little for intern welfare. as long as the work was done well and to an excellent standard, it didn't really matter that his interns were struggling, physically or psychologically. isaac disagrees strongly with this philosophy, believing that while criticisms and lectures were necessary, support, reassurance and encouragement were better in producing good (and less shaken) interns, both in mind and body, thus equating to more efficient doctors and thus, better health services. but also, quite simply, he sympathises with his interns and knows that being a doctor isn't easy. graduating from med school with one of the highest grade-point-averages means he's a pretty good, intuitive doctor and can often tell which medical procedures need to be undertaken in times of emergency and which scans/ tests need to be done to confirm a particular condition. although bright, his memory often fails him and he has trouble talking to attractive female colleagues/ subordinates. he turns painfully shy, like a second-grader with a crush. he's usually professional and mature with how he treats his colleagues in general but his infectious personality often attracts relationships that are more-than-just-a-colleague. he's a great listener and as a friend, he is attentive and sincere. he tries very hard to be the best mentor/ brother he can be to his colleagues - because he does not have older siblings to model himself on, he hopes perhaps he can be one to others that share his life. like many residents, he tends to deal with his personal problems alone and tries not to let it show when he's on-call. he hates showing weakness in front of patients and colleagues alike partly because of the way he's been brought up but also because he feels that's not what competent doctors do.

background. isaac was born on march 20, 1991 to a relatively wealthy, well-off family. he was lanky during high-school and puberty was not a particularly great time - he found himself at a loss of words when talking to pretty girls and this inability-to-talk-to-attractive-females carried with him to adulthood which is plain embarrassing and a little inconvenient. his father was a veteran doctor before becoming a professor of neurology whereas his mother was previously a model before retiring to domestic duties as a housewife. unlike his father, his mother did enough to pass high school before going on to do a modest arts degree at university. eventually, she found academics was not the way to go and she dropped out of university, becoming a receptionist at a small physiotherapy clinic in new jersey. whilst his father had no qualms about who she was and what sort of family background she was from, his father's family were cruel to his mother and often ridiculed her because of her social class and because she was essentially, a 'university dropout'. because of this, his mother placed a lot of emphasis on his studying and provided him with private tutors if need be. it was important that he excelled in his academic studies - she could not afford for him to be looked down upon or underestimated. she made sure he was academically brilliant by his relatives' standards and that he was strong on the outside. any sign of weakness was a sign of incompetence. even when he struggled or broke down, he made sure to stay strong, at least, on the outside. when he entered medical school, he began to develop acute anxiety from the pressures exerted by his mother however he kept this information to himself. his mother was adamant that he had to be nothing less than brilliant - he was to pursue medicine like his father. this is why isaac hates showing weakness in front of his patients/ colleagues - it shows incompetence and also explains why he is so sure and confident of his decisions. although his mother was harsh and strict with him, she loved him unconditionally and took care of him beyond well. he played a lot of sports as a child and because of his family's class, was also able to learn horse-riding and polocrosse. he is an only child - he is often lonely and he knows this. living in a big house made it worse - loneliness was an unnecessary negative in his life he didn't need. this is why he treasures his colleagues and subordinates as if they were family and treats them with an undeniable love.
