赤い糸 ― Seok Rihwan。
WEIGHT: 79 kg
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Brilliant. Perfectionist. Serious. Cold. Domineering. Arrogant. Competent. Fair.
ELABORATE:
Rihwan considers himself always a winner. And he is so unapologetic for it.
There's nothing wrong about narcissism. Own it.
Rihwan was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and got everything he wanted. But because of this he lost the distinction between his real self and the person other people want him to be. Rihwan commands attention when he enters the room because that is the type of man his parents wanted him to be. He speaks the blunt truth and cuts through the crap. He hates excuses and doesn't allow room for mistakes. When he was still with his dad, one mistake would cost him everything. This cold side of him is always at odds with his heart - which tells him to be fair and humane. As a result he strives to act classy while still retaining his cold edge. Tough as nails, he facilitates between cold professionalism and genteel manners.
His so-called perfect exterior remains intact because he is so good at lying and faking it. In school he leaves and arrives when he wants but no one notices because he always does his work so well. He makes it seem like he was there the whole time. Although he started a new life in Korea, ever so often his old adrenaline-inducing habits resurface such as gambling.
Rihwan claims that having feelings make him weak but he secretly cares immensely for his friends. He has a huge heart but hides it and pretends not to care. He is like a rock.
[Ex. If his friend was cheated on by their girl/boyfriend, Rihwan destroys that ex-girl/boyfriend's new relationship AND destroys their whole career. But he makes sure no one knows he's the one who did it.]
It's hard not to notice him. Everything about him seems poised and perfect. With that much care to appearance most would think he is very vain. However, that is far from the truth. Rihwan hates his appearance. Every time he looks in the mirror he sees his father's face and the gangly, weak body he once had. He takes care of his appearance and tries to cover it up in "perfection" to hide his past.

Rin grew up in Manhattan, on the Upper East Side, until he was 13 years old. His categorizes his life in two parts. His old life. And his new life (in Korea).
His dad is from old wealth. His mom fell in love with his dad and they had an affair (his dad was married) for a couple months, which led to his birth. Once his father found out she was pregnant he stopped meeting her altogether. However, he bought her a luxurious apartment, and sent generous monthly checks to support her and Rin. His mother was never very strong, but not being able to see his father, James, drove her mad. She really loved him. Rin grew to resent his father, whom he never saw except briefly once a year on his birthday. And even then, his father would sometimes send his secretary instead. Since his mother only talked of his father, Rin achieved to be the best in everything to get her attention. Except, he never gained her recognition. (1) By the time he was eleven, his mother attempted suicide. If Jin didn't find her on time she would have died. (2) He was never quite the same after that.
After that his life seemed to spiral out of control. He always got into fights with other kids and got suspended often (not expelled because his father was a big donor to the school).
One day, when he was twelve he followed one of his mother's numerous schemes to a party his father was throwing. There was too many people and his mother, who loves social gatherings, got lost in the sea of people. After an hour of searching, a young woman spotted him.
Right after the party Rin needed to get away. He felt so trapped in his life home, that he took all his savings and ran away to his mother's home country - Korea. He knew how heartbroken his mother would be, so he somehow managed to convince her to come with him, saying that they were going on a 'vacation'. After a couple days his father found out, but didn't really seem to care. The only difference was he sent money to them in Seoul instead of NYC. He started a new life in Korea and shoved his past deep within himself. (4)
**(1) "Mom, look! I got first in my whole grade!" beamed Jin. Lost in her own world, Seomi continued to stare broodingly out the window. Photos of her and his father were splattered all over her lap and floor. She muttered "Yes, James was so smart... so intelligent.. so...". Jin's smile faltered.
(2) Bursting through the door, Jin yelled, "I'm home!" There was no response. "Mom?" Her familiar, warm presence was absent. Something seemed off, but Jin couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. When he walked into the bathroom to wash up he screamed. His mother lay limp on the floor, with blood flowing from her wrists. He screamed "help! help!" But no one came.
(4) Her once beautiful face, now aged with anxiety and depression, lit up upon seeing Rin walk into the room. "James!" she called out, and set down her book to go hug Jin. Jin's smile did not reach his eyes. When this first happened to him, he felt so angry, but now he only felt numbness. He knew how much he looked like his father. And he detests himself for it.
FAMILY:
RELATION: Seok Seomi // 55 // Mother//Homemaker / /Prim. Kind. Image-Conscious. Compliant.
» No one Rin knows has ever met her (and he plans to keep it that way). She may be kind and often delusional but she too is from old wealth. Her background and upbringing will get in the way of accepting Rin's soulmate. She doesn't want anyone with less than stellar credentials to be with her son. She doesn't care about the the red string of fate . His mom will be nice to her but in private disapprove and chide in Rin. This will become a huge problem because he loves his mother too much. She is the only family he has.
»The clocks strikes 9:00 pm. One minute. Two minutes. Three minutes pass. Rin nervously stalks back and forth in his room without taking his eyes off his phone. *Ring Ring* Relief floods his face. Within seconds he picks up the phone and stoically answers "Mother". You can hear muffled excited chatter. Rin gives one, or two words answers to the long-stringed banter. Despite his short, aloof replies, the whole time he suppresses a grin and his expression reflects a mixture of genuine affection and loving concern.
RELATION: James Locke // 59// Senior Associate at a Bank// Workaholic. Stoic. Selfish. Cruel.
» He is a seemingly expressionless and cold man. Jin detests his father for two things. The heartache he gives his mother. And their undeniable resemblance in their facial features and personality. Although Jin hates to admit it, he knows how much alike he and his father is.
»*thud* Striding up to his father's desk, Rin slams his hand on the desk. Without looking up his father says "I'm busy". Rin hisses, "Like hell you are. With what? Your es?" His father's pen halts midair, "I will not have you speak to me in this manner." Silence fills the air. Sighing in defeat, Rin says softly, "Just go see my mother. Please. She won't eat or sleep. She is depressed again because she just wants to see your face". After a moment’s pause, his father resignedly replies "I'm busy" and continues to writing. The tone of his voice signals that the conversation is over.
- Rihwan is afraid of it. He believes that if he does find ‘the one’ he will lose his identity and self-perception of who he is.
ANON: Do you think the Red String of Fate exists?
RIHWAN: No........ *sigh* yes...But I’m still young. I’m not planning to look for it or be tied to it anytime soon. Seriously, give me a break.
ANON: But you do know it’s inevitable, right?
RIHWAN: I refuse to answer that on the grounds that I don’t want to.
HOW WOULD YOU REACT TO FINDING YOUR SOULMATE?:
