Qui- Ki- The Art of Creating!

I am happiest when I am creating. Special thanks to poptart for being an enabler. The other day, she tagged me to a post containing these gorgeous and intricate paper art. My tita/aunt makes them too as decorations in cards but I never knew what it was. The craft is called quilling.

Needless to the say, I read and watched tutorials. That's just how Keeper is.

With a basic knowledge of what I am supposed to do, and a ton of excitement, I set out yesterday to make my first quilled creation!

I don't have any quilling paper strips. The school supplies store and crafts stores near me don't have them. But I have some colored paper. With my ruler, I measured 3mm and 5mm strips, and cut them with my craft knife. Unfortunately, this Keeper ain't skilled with blades. I stopped pretending and got out my pencil, lined the paper and used my trusty scissors.

The strips... well... they would do. (The ones below are the ugly ones, because I used up the pretty strips before I decided to document them #fail)

Also, I don't have a slotted quilling tool, where you would insert your strip so that it won't unravel while you roll it.

Good thing, youtube offered an alternative solution using a toothpick, an empty pen cartridge and a cutter. The crafter cut along the diameter of the toothpick using the cutter to make a slit. Then she inserted it to the pen cartridge. But Keeper doesn't have a round toothpick, ours are flat. I found a bamboo skewer but it was too thick for my pens.

Aside from the slotted tool, advanced quillers use a needle tool. They don't like the crease the slotted tool makes. I have one that looks like it in my polymer clay set but I don't like pointed and sharp objects. The bamboo skewer laid next to me, asking me, "Now what?"

So I grabbed a strip and the skewer, then rolled. AHAHA. The hole in the center was too big for my narrow strips. I tried my crochet needles. Still big. Then I found a paper clip. Yes, I straightened a green paper clip and used it as my quilling tool!

(You will need the tweezer when you seal your quilled paper art. I mixed equal parts of Elmer's glue and water. I don't have a glaze, so that should do.)

Valentine's Day is still two months away but because of Kiliel, I made hearts!

Those are hearts not aliens. Maybe I'd use a wire... or yeah, the needle tool in my polymer clay set >_>

I would insert a jump ring through the circles on top and attach an earring hook :3

(They are so tiny, I had trouble focusing with my point-and-shoot digi cam. The DLSR is under repair -_- So sorry for the low quality.)

I think I did okay with my first try ^^"

And yeah, this would definitely be included in the 2015 list as well :3

Not only did I create quilled heart, I also created a new thread for my Kili and Tauriel! I am living in denial and I am so fine with that :3 I mean, who says I can't create an alternate universe for my Kili and Tauriel?

It's the 30th and so far, 2015 is looking up, up, up for this Keeper! I am expecting great things to happen! So should you!
