APPEARANCE. rian usually doesn't alter his appearance much besides occasionally dyeing his hair (sometimes a light ash blonde, other times a warm chestnut color). he used to have one earring on his right ear. 
STYLE. rian often wears thin, dark sweaters and thermal sweaters. other clothing is generally colorful, ranging from colored skinny jeans, to letterman jackets of different styles and letters (he commonly gets R, H, or A), and especially sneakers. His jeans are always tight skinny jeans.

   — there is a video of him pre-debut when he was 13 singing along to "dream girl" by afterschool, nowadays he is embarrased of the video and wishes for others to not view it, however he did originally start learning how to rap because of bekah's rap within the song
   — he moved to korea with his mother, since his father is a music producer at a big company in japan, he stayed

   — he was only 12 years old when he was scouted by a pledis manager

   — shortly before bekah graduated afterschool, rian was actually going to give up on being a trainee, but bekah told him to never give up on his dreams if it's what makes him happy, and so he listened and stayed with the company

   — rian uses the music studio at the company often to record covers of songs, particularly afterschool songs which is helpful considering miss records has access to the official instrumental versions of afterschool songs

BACKGROUND. 
   — rian was born in japan to korean parents, the only son of a fairly popular romantic novelist and a music producer for a large entertainment company. he was of a naturally kind heart (noted by his father to truly be the child of his mother). he always had an interest in music and entertainment, humming along to popular songs playing along on the radio. when he originally told his parents he wanted to become a singer, his father had remarked he wouldn't survive it because he was weak-willed. 
   — when rian was 11 (2007) he and his mother moved to korea as a book-publishing company wanted to sign his mother for a contract after one of her books became widely successful. the two left as his father said he couldn't leave the company. after a few months, in 2008, rian was street-casted for pledis where he passed his auditions and became a trainee. his mother had congradulated him but when he made a video call to his father, his father had scoffed and told him he should quit because he wouldn't get to debut. he hasn't actually spoken to his father since 2008. 
   — as a trainee he did fairly well, although despite his father's job he didn't actually have any prior formal knowledge of singing. kahi herself did a one-time dance session with the group of trainees he was in. since he was fluent in korean and knew the seoul accent, nobody really knew he was raised in japan.  
   — when he was 15 he became a back-up dancer for kahi for her solo debut and participated both in the dancing for the music video and live programs.  
   — one of the times he went back to japan as a trainee, when he was 18, was for a solo photoshoot, which happened to be a photoshoot. his father heard of the photoshoot and had called him through the director of the shoot and screamed at him and used homophobic remarks against him.  
   — in 2012, rian was scouted from pledis by kahi for her own company miss records, officially becoming miss records' first male trainee.
