Should Celebrities/ Authors be able to sue fanfiction writers?

Logical reasons to sue Anna Todd:

-The book portrays central character Harry Styles as a womaniser and incorporates themes of domestic violence. He is portrayed as having serious anger management issues and Indiana is perceived as a lovestruck girl who barely knows him but will put up with anything. The majority of the chapters consist of him abusing her emotionally and then making it all better through make up .

She only used the British-Irish pop band in order to cash in her $600,000 publishing, audio and world rights deal.

-Publishing a fanfic about a real person can be dangerous, especially when it would link back to them, changing the names or not. Lawsuits can happen too, because she defamed Harry and Indiana with portraying them as people they're not. Fanfics about real people should stay on the Internet.

People constantly argue that Harry Styles has no association with After, and they are indeed incorrect. Harry is mentioned in every article about After, her 1D username is on the covers, and all of One Direction's initials are the same in the newer versions. I didn't think people would be that oblivious to say Harry isn't associated when the first association was seeing her username on the cover, which also calls for being very unprofessional. She even mentions them in the second one. But she changed the names, right?

Background story:

Tessa is an annoyingly naïve who's never had a touch of alcohol in her life. She heads off to college, where she meets stereotypical bad girl roomie Steph. We know Steph is bad because she has... tattoos. (Not tattoos!) Steph is friends with all sorts of party animals, including Harry.

Now, here's where it gets really original: Harry has tattoos, too, and he's a total sarcastic jerk who Tessa feels mysteriously drawn to. Oh, and he's British, like his namesake. But as we find out, Harry likes to read, which makes him totally deep or something. Author Todd even fits in the obligatory "I bet you like Mr. Darcy" conversation, because there aren't enough Darcy references in the world. will use a popular One Direction fanfiction which has gotten over 1 billion online views in just a year.

A brief history on the author:

Anna Todd is a 25 year old married Texan. Over a year ago, she began writing her fanfiction, After, about a then 18 year old Harry Styles and a then 23 year old Australian actress, Indiana Evans.
