Kim Joan was born on the 1st of January 1992 just a few minutes after midnight in Seoul, Korea. She came from a wealthy family who owns a few restaurants around Korea and Philippines. She grew up under her grandma's care while her parents are both in the Philippines to manage their restaurants there. Since Joan was young, her grandmother enrolled her to singing, guitar and piano lessons. The whole Kim family are all musically talented where Joan's parents both sing and dance and her grandma used to be a theatrical actress back in her day. She was the typical innocent and dutiful Asian child who does everything that was told her to do. She learned to sing and play both guitar and piano since she was 7 years old. When she turned 8, Yoon Mi Rae from The Movement interested her. She is a great singer and rapper and an overall nice and talented person.

Joan got inspired to try out rapping with the permission of her grandmother. Her grandmother was against it because she thought rapping is stupid but reconsidered it when Joan purposely let her grades drop. Joan felt like she was being suffocated of her grandmother's strictness that she changed. She does everything told to her as long as her grandma does the same with her requests. She learned to rap by herself, rapping along Yoon Mi Rae's songs and her vocal teacher told her that she has to have a nice breathing rhythm so the rap will come out smooth and still understandable. At school, Joan was part of the choir even in the church. She is always one of the top students in her every class.

When she was 11, her grandma decided moved to the Philippines to join Joan's parents there. Joan had a hard time coping up in the country that she felt depressed because of it. Her neighbor and schoolmate Park Sang Hyun helped her for he is Korean who just grew up in Philippines. He tutors her when he has time to help her from her depression. As for English, it is the Philippine's second language and has to be learned. She studied both English and Tagalog diligently at the same time to cope up in her class.

For her new-found passion in rapping, she decided to go back to Korea by herself in mid-2009 and pursue to be an idol. She auditioned to WM Entertainment for 2 times until she was finally accepted to be a trainee. She forgot the lyrics of the song she was supposed to sing and rap along on those two failed auditions but on the third try, she was finally calm and prepared so she got in right away. Going back to her home country felt so surreal that she was finally breaking through the old her and living the life she wanted. She was already finished in high school so she didn't enrolled for college on the first two years of her training period. She focused training hard to be able to enhance her skills and debut on a girl group. She didn't have a hard time befriending her fellow trainees so training didn't became that lonely for her. In 2011 after WME debuted the quintet boy group B1A4, Joan continued her studies and chose to major in song writing. She balanced her studies, training and working part time as a barista on a famous cafe near WME.

Joan was featured on a few music videos including B1A4's Baby Goodnight, VIXX's On and On and Voodoo Doll -- the group where her 3rd cousin Kim Won Shik aka Ravi is a member and Jin's Gone with the EXO member Xiumin. She was also a cameo in Reply 1994 as Sung Joon's girlfriend who is played by BtoB's Sungjae.

Laid-back > can mean relaxed, calm, and easygoing. Ooh! Suggestion! Shinwoo and Joan duo. I wouldn't suggest Troublemaker / Hyuna&HyunSeung coz they're so overused on a boy-girl duo. You can use songs of Almeng ( 알맹 ) or the duets with Soyou or Raina like the song Some or A Midsummer Night's Sweetness.
