[PLEASE READ]: My Experiment on AFF

Hey guys :) I want to share a little something with you.

Being a Psychology student, I can't help but want to do experiments all the time, which is what I have done. I've waited a long time to see the results and now I've decided to post it here. Now don't worry, this is not serious AT ALL. It's just a little something you might be interested in knowing about the readers on this site :)

So, you may or may not know about one of my ridiculous stories on this:

'! ! !'

The name itself is rather ridiculous, don't you think?

Anyway, at the point of creation my friend (bbuingbbuing1) and I wanted to see how many people would subscribe to the foreword (and we got a lot) then we posted rather ridiculously short and weird chapters to see if it would turn people off. Read it yourself, it's ing horrible.

But...

I wanted to see if my status as one of the site's 'Popular Authors' (judging by the rank on the site) would make people still subscribe to crap because of who wrote it. Now, this would'nt even pass for crack.

However, I do know I have some very loyal readers which I adore.

But after those three horrible and pointless chapters, I still have 750+ subscribers and 65+ upvotes.

That's for utter rubbish.

Something that didn't take me even 10 minutes to write or think about.

At all.

I even updated the last chapter (a long time ago) and added a ridiculous band I hate in (sorry 1D fans) to see if it would cause people to unsubscribe.. but only a handful did and I still have 750+ subs.

Which goes to show that some of the more great stories on this site is seriously underrated. Now, I am not in anyway judging the popular stories (well.. maybe a little) but it was interesting to see what invoked people to subscribe and upvote.

This is my conclusion on how to write a 'popular' story (not inc. all):

1. The title must relate to

2. It must include one of the most written about bands on the site (EXO)

Anyway, this was just a little experiment of mine.

I'll keep the story up for laughing use, but, why don't you tell me your thoughts on this?

I also want to mention that to all my loyal subscribers (and to all 770 people that subscribed to this story) I really, really appreciate everything you do for me :) But to the unique ones that subscribed (meaning they haven't subscribed to any of my other stories), please use your subscription and upvote on another story that actually deserves it.

Please look out for stories that the author has put a lot of work into it.

Trust me. It's hell. It usually takes me around 3 - 4 hours to write a chapter for a SINGLE story. It's a lot of work.

I've read your previous stories before and mostly they are all rated but I love them so much. I always expected a perfect and beautifully written stories by 'shadowgami' but I haven't read this one. I haven't read so much in aff and only save paging updated stories cuz I've been busying myself writing on Wattpad.

I randomly subscribe stories in AFF, specially the one with soooo many subscribers on that stories.
But, sometimes (okay, many times) I was wondering about that popular stories.
'Why would this story have a lot of subscribers when I cant even understand the plot or the things that the author wanna show in its?'
That's why I rarely give my upvote even if I subscribe it.
And, sometimes, I found a really good story, but, well, IDK why but that story got less than 70 upvotes.
After I read this post of yours, I think I know why.
Because that good story I read doesn't contain any ual things.
Well, there are one, but not explicit because ual things is not its main focus so that, yeah, maybe that's why.
Maybe, I need to read at least its forewords before subscribe popular FF randomly.

Wow I gotta read this story XD
I noticed this pattern too, how this site is biased towards EXO and the love for but hey, I'm not judging because I know I'm one of those people. But then again, you can't blame the readers because it's the writers who write EXO fics and most of the time, those are somewhat better. Yet some authors do it to gain more popularity... Since EXO fics are more popular. So it's a never ending cycle. I wonder whether this site is gonna break out of it or not.

I kind of figured this out a long time ago, and guess what, I also did an experiment lol. And to think that most of the peeps here are so young. I'd love to read other author's story (unpopular ones, as labeled. ) but hey, I loved one of your stories--it made me a fan of TaoRis., :)

I do write and I know how much effort you have to put on it and I was laughing while reading this. I've read most of your stories and they are always pretty awesome so I thought that you went crazy on that one but I was - and I am - following it because it was kind of funny to read something so strange from you.
I do not study psychology but it is what I really wanted to do -my grades were not that good to enter into the degree- so I love that you have post this here. I'll wait for more experiments!! ;)

Well you totally got me! I'm one of those loyal readers! I saw that you got a new story so I subscribed to it without thinking twice even though I still haven't got time to read it...

Just wondering if you took into account the people who subscribed thinking thinking- "oh Ashley's stories are usually a good read!" And those who subscribe to a story, get a few chapters in, realize they have no interest and don't want to hurt someone's feelings by unsubscribing, so remain subscribed but never actually read any of the chapters? Like did you take into account the chapter statistics? Was there a big decline in views after the first chapter?
