Tears flowed down Miseul’s face as she felt the boy tugging her along, his grip gentle yet tight. Once or twice, she tried to pull her hands out of his grip, screaming for help, but it wasn’t long before they had reached a corner.

“Keep quiet!” The boy hissed at her, covering with his hand and pulling her close to him before he continued walking on towards the kitchen. His eyes scanning the area and making sure that they kept close to the shadows.

Pit pat, pit pat, the sounds of their footsteps sounded softly through the room along with the soft sniffles. She was still sobbing as she followed him, her mind deciding that since he wasn’t attacking her, he seemed trustable. She kept her head down, her eyes fixed onto the small of his back as she walked.

“Come on,” he whispered softly to her again when they reached the back door. He pushed it open tentatively, peeking out to make sure the coast was clear before going out. Once they were out of the house, he hurriedly closed the door and pulled her towards trees and bushes behind the houses.

She stumbled over branches and got scratches on her arms and legs, but he did not stop and kept on continuing deeper into the trees. Her lips were bleeding from being bitten down too hard in an attempt to not shout out loud from the pain.

It wasn’t long before the boy came to a stop behind a huge bush and pulled her along to hide behind it. His eyes softened when he saw the scratches and bleeding wounds on her arms and legs. “Stay here, okay?” he whispered to her again softly.

She nodded, tears staining her cheeks and her eyes widened when she felt the boy letting go of her hands. Afraid that she was going to be alone, she clutched on to the side of his shirt, causing his shirt to lift up a little. “Are you going to leave?” her voice trembled.

He nodded. Noticing that her eyes had flitted to his exposed skin on his waist and seemingly trying to hide something, he pried her hands off his shirt, as he stood up again. “I have to go back,” he moved away after telling her to stay there.

“Will you come back with her?” she looked at him, eyes filled with hope as she bit down on her bleeding lips again.

“I-” he frowned as he tried to think of what he could say. “I’ll try,” his words and tone sounded unsure, but she was still too young to figure it out. Happy with his answer and the possibility of seeing her sister again, she nodded and sat down when he told her to.

“Goodbye,” a small faint smile graced his lips as he leaned down to place a gentle kiss on her forehead before he turned around and hurriedly goes back the way where they came from.

Alone in the dark, she had no idea how to go back or where she was and she could only sit down and hug her knees to herself. She counted sheeps, counted the stars, wondered if the boy was going to come back anytime. However what she saw was definitely not what she expected.

Her house bursted into flames in front of her eyes. She jumped up in shock as tears started flowing down her cheeks again.Wailing loudly, though drowned by the sound of the fire and destruction in front of her, her legs were frozen on the spot. The boy did not came back. Her sister was inside of the house. Even at that young age, she knew what fire was and that if anyone were inside the house, they’d probably be dead.

She had no idea what to do and could only keep on crying. And that was her last memory before she out and woke up in an orphanage.

Sunggyu sighed as he stood by the window, looking out into the city that seemed to be bustling with life even when it’s already 1am at night. A smirk, or was it a scornful smile found its way onto his lips as he looked on wistfully.

“You need to stop calling us over at this time of the night,” a voice cut through his thoughts, along with the loud slamming shut of the doors and chairs being moved in the room.

He chuckled softly to himself before turning around to meet the two person currently sitting down in his study room. Shrugging, he walked back to his seat, the one that seemed too big. “Can’t be helped, I seem to be only free at this time of the night,” he muttered almost grumpily.

“Whiskey?” Woohyun asked as he came over from the small bar located at the side of the room to the table, placing three cups on the table and the bottle of whiskey down. Seeing the nods, he started pouring the alcohol into the caps.

“So what’s up?” Minah asked as she held her drink in her hand, seemingly hesitant about drinking the whiskey. Woohyun shot her a suspicious look before she drank it down hurriedly.

Sunggyu stayed silent for awhile, looking at the drink and swirling it in the cup before downing it. “We need to talk about the recruitment plans for the newbies, I heard there’s some movements from the police side,” his tone grave and sombre.

“Alright,” Woohyun smirked, finally sitting down on the other chair. “Whose are we kicking this time?”
