How The Fantasy World Comes To Life

How The Fantasy World Comes To Life

Now that I have been writing my fantasy serie for quite some time, I somehow feel the need to explain my fantasy universe a little bit more to my readers since it really is a very complex living, breathing world in itself. Inside this world many things work and exist differently compared to our own so I thought maybe I should clear some things. In each of the stories of my fantasy serie I have tried to focus on one feature and bring it forth, hoping to keep the story understandable to you readers, as it is to me, the author. As for starters, I'd like to state the timeline of my stories so it will be clear for you as you read my serie in the future.

How To Harness The Unicorn, the SuLay story is the first of the serie in timelinely order, and happens approximately 12 years prior to the events of How To Tame Your Dragon (the Taoris story). Suho is still young here, and the world is very much different compared to how it will be in the future. This is basically the story, which will create the very foundations for the other stories. Many influental events take place in this time, and Suho along with Lay and Chen will play part in them.

How To Trick The Fox, XiuChen story comes second, which happens some years later from the Sulay events, however still years before How To Tame Your Dragon. The events of SuLay story have influence here, and some things have changed since the times, but is still in the process. You will understand more of it once I have written How To Harness The Unicorn.

How To Tame Your Dragon takes place as third. Its the first story I wrote and it was the early time when I only found this world, so it can be rather challenging to read as it holds so much new information of the fantasy world. However, this is the current time of the fantasy world how it is. This story is mainly focusing on Tao's case, how his special bloodline affects beasts, and how his reality collides with the beasts'.

How To Raise Your Phoenix is the fourth story, which takes place pretty much right after the Taoris story. It focuses on the human world more than beasts as it follows Baekhyun's life, and how he faces challenges set by the human society.

How To Trace The Wolf, is the fifth story. It will revolve strongly around the wolf clan and beasts' social statuses, how beasts interact among their own. In this story Kyungsoo is basically an outcast of the wolf clan, someone who has no pack and has lost respect of his own kin due to his past. In the meantime Kai is the son of the current wolf clan head, and ought to be the next clan leader. (A little of what happened to Kyungsoo prior to the KaiSoo story is shown in the Taoris story.)

How To Catch Your Prince is the last of the stories, and traditions act as part of the storyline. The beasts take great pride in them, which is partly why Luhan wishes to break away from his clan so much, as will be seen in the story.

Next about the thing I have wished to talk about, the existance of the race of beasts. Humans are much simplier to understand, which is why I don't think there's too much to say about them. I'll just focus on the most unknown features of my fantasy world, which affect the stories significantly and play a large part of the universe.

Beasts are basically more or less magical creatures, who are capable of taking human form. They take pride in their bestial forms, as it is their truest form and natural shape, however, when the beasts take their human skin it is also a sign of power, because they're choosing to be in their other form not every beast can take.

The humans cannot understand their beast language nor can most of them hear the beasts' telepathic speech, since humans don't usually have any bonds to the magical world. As the beasts have lived  among humans for so long, many have forgotten that even though the beasts look very much human their basic nature is still the beast that lies dormant within. They will act accordingly to their original nature if the situation calls for it, which is the main reason conflicts and accidents still happen. Especially when the humans try to force their laws on the beast population, who shares very variating believes and traditions compared to the human customs.

Beasts have various clans that are ranked higher and lower. Often carnivore clans are on top ranks, but some herbivore clans such as deer/elk and boar clans are high in the beasts' social ladder. You could mainly say, the smaller the animal, the lower it is in the ladder, but there are exceptions. Reptiles are kind of a difficult case, but you could say snakes are pretty high on the list, and the mythical beast, basilisk, would be their highest blood.

Among clans also exist natural alliences as well as enemies. For example the fox and wolf clan are allies as they are carnivores and related to each other, while the fox and rabbit clan would be natural enemies. There are also clans, who have no attachments to other clans such as the rat clan since they are often despised and considered as vermins among all clans.

The beasts are often separated to mythical and normal beasts, then high bloods, mid-bloods, and low bloods. High bloods are naturally the most respected of the beast kind, their magic is strong and they often share exceptional traits. Mid-bloods are beasts one could call being the normal level with basic skills while low bloods are in the bottom of the chain. Those beasts who belong to the lowest can barely take human form, or not at all, without the full moon empowering their weak magic while the other ranks can change their forms at will.

Among the beasts, however there exists one other type of beast, or to be more precise, a title in addition to the mythical. The celestials. They are often mentioned to be the celestial phoenix, celestial unicorn and celestial dragon. These three guardians are considered sacred, and believed to be ones to protect this universe as they are the most powerful of the creatures that have ever existed. These belong to the human beliefs as well since they share similar faith as the beasts in the star constellations. But in time it has become more and more of a legend among the human society. The beasts still know the old stories of the celestials as it is closer to their world than it is to the human population.

(As a side note: Yifan IS NOT a celestial dragon. I'd rather not go in depth to why he is feared for what he is for now, but you could say that it's related to the stories of the Celestials.)

Moving on! About beast magic!

The beast have mainly magic of two kind, black and white magic. The different type of abilities the beast have set somewhere between these two types of magic. The skills that lean more to black magic are often more aggressive while those which share affinty to white are tranquil in their nature. For example Yixing's white healing magic and Yifan's black magic ability to control others. These two are the polar opposites to each other.

The beasts are very old creatures of the world and share a strong connection to the earth and its phenomenoms, such as the moon cycle. When the full moon comes the beasts receive a power boost because of the affinity they share with the moon. However it's the same thing when the moon isn't showing during the lunar eclipse, they lose their powers significantly due to the moon. They are at their most vulnerable state during that time.

Then beasts' bonds and bonding....I think I'll leave that to another time. That is if people are interested to know? If you have anything you'd like to ask regarding the world and how it works feel free to ask. I'll try to answer if there's something bothering you. This is just me writing stuff because I just wanted to get it out of my head. xD
