BIAS: She signed up for Kai but Gongchan was her second choice. They bumped into each other once at a coffee shop before because Yumi used to work there. They meet in the park on the show and have to get into one of those couple boats. He remembers her from the coffee shop and she's surprised and pretty flattered that he was able to remember. They get on well at first but Yumi begins to get annoyed by Gongchan's overuse of aegyo and his shyness which she mistakes for arrogance and he doesn't like that she refuses to call him oppa and that she talks so much.

Yumi is a very friendly and level-headed girl who likes to joke around and tease. She loves to prank her friends for their reactions but knows everyone's limits and what is funny and what is not. She's very responsible and worries a lot about her friends, giving her the title of "umma". She was born in the U.S and got adopted when she was seven. Yumi is very friendly and welcoming to new people because she knows what it feels like. She's grown up in Korea so she can fluently speak,read, and write Korean and English. Yumi is the type of girl that you always see with a smile on her face, she's constantly getting to know people and loves to help other and be generous. Once you get to know her you'll learn that she has a very sharp tongue and a lot of wit and curiosity that might or might not work in her favor. She's not a nerd but always tries her hardest at everything and hopes for the best. She doesn't like to be "nagged" at a lot but nags everyone herself (lol). She always is looking to help so sometimes she gets involved with other people's problems a bit too much.
Yumi can be quite the spazz when she gets comfortable with you but is very logical and thinks everything out before making a decision. She's a good listener and is always there as a shoulder to cry on or someone to just sit down and have a talk with. She's is rarely a "loud" type of person but likes to talk A LOT. She's very clueless when it comes to having a relationship herself because even though she's a typical fangirl and has fantasied about her favorite idols, she's never considered an actual relationship just because she thinks it's a waste of time. Some of her flaws are that sometimes she tries to overwork herself to get everything done and tries to take on all the problems herself. Yumi is overly self-critical. She spends a lot of time on making things "perfect" and if she doesn't meet the goal she wanted she will get very upset at herself. Yumi can come off as bossy and controlling because of this. She's also very sensitive to the topic of her being adopted and will get very mad if someone makes a joke out of it. Yumi doesn't express her inner emotions to most people because even if on the outside there's a lot of joy and independence she has a lot of fears and sadness and doesn't want to burden anyone with that. She's always wanted to know more about her birth parents (all she knows is that they were Indian and Korean and died in a car crash) but knows that sometimes you have to move on in life and cherish what you have now and welcome the future, however scary it maybe.

Family
Kwon Yuri | 22| Goes to fashion school, works part-time at a bridal salon| Adopted Sister| Even though at first, Yura didn't want to have a new sister, both siblings grew to form a strong bond. Yumi looks up to Yura a lot because of how hard her sister works everyday to live her dream of being a wedding planner. They shared many moments together and Yumi feels like she can tell Yuri anything.
Kwon Hyuk-Jun| 27| Owns a music store in Busan| Adopted Brother| Since HyukJun is older he was more mature about having Yumi as a sister. He helped Yumi adapt to the new country. He takes her out a lot to the city and shows her around. They go on a lot of drives together and tell each other about their day. Yumi enjoys having these "outings" with HyukJun because he works in Busan and doesn't come to Seoul very often.
Kwon Jiho| 53| Doctor| Father| Yumi has a good relationship with her father. He's who she goes to when she needs help with Korean culture and he's also her motivator when ever she's ready to give up. He's the person that encourages her and her humor and sarcastic tone come from him. Her father is the jokester of the family, he's the one who says the most jokes and he and Yumi will crack up about the silliest jokes while her mom sister look on, rolling their eyes.
Kim Riah | 51| Doctor| Mother| Yumi's mom is the person who keeps her grounded. Her mom is strict and less lax than Yumi's father. She's the one who will put restrictions on Yumi and teaches her responsibly this way. Yumi gets her sensible, logical head from her mom. She's mom is an amazing cook, and this is how Yumi got interested in cooking.
Friends
Ahn Changmin 20 | Changmin and Yumi are super good friends; they met when Yumi first lived in the U.S. He always manages to cheer her up when she's feeling down. He's really bubbly and cheerful to everyone but when he's around Yumi he knows he can be himself. Basically, he can show his true feelings to her and knows she won't judge him. She teases him a lot about his "manliness" and he teases her about being a "nagging umma". They don't get to see each other a lot because he goes to university in the US but remain loyal friends all the same.
Kim Minah| 20 | Student| Yumi's known Minah since she moved to Korea because they're neighbors and their parents became good friends. Minah is a very "aegyo" type of girl and she's very boy-crazy. Yumi has to be the own to hold her down and make sure she doesn't take too many risks. Minah in turn, helps Yumi loosen up a little at times. Minah and Changmin get along really well and both have feelings for the other. Yumi's always playing matchmaker whenever Changmin comes to visit.
Park Yukjae | 23| Student | Yukjae is like another oppa to Yumi. She loves to spend time with him because he's very easy-going and cares about everyone. He makes her laugh a lot due because he's super clumsy and has many weird quirks. She can always go to him for advice when she's lonely and he always makes sure to check up on her to make sure she isn't overworking herself at school. He's very loyal and will always be there to protect her and care for her.

On screen: Bundle of aegyo and general cuteness :P Gongchan plays up the cutesy, maknae role a lot on screen. He also pretty reserved at first and is intimdated by the fact that Yumi is so talkative and optionated. Since he's pretty childish on screen he finds himself being nagged by Yumi a lot but he's definetly a match for her (and doesn't mind all the attention). He goes out of his way to prank her but she gets even as soon as the time is right. He's constantly teasing Yumi on-screen and going out of his way to annoy her but it's evident he deeply cares for her and doesn't like it when anyone else is mean to her but him.
Off screen: He's pretty serious at first but once he gets to know someone he ends up being very michevous and loves to tease people. However, he doesn't like to take many riskes and Yumi finds herself trying to bring him out of his shell. In turn, he grounds her and makes her feel safe and comfortable. He even gets her to open up to him and talk about her adoption and her hopes of knowing more about her biological parents.
