I don't think it's necessarily true. Not all boys/men are the same. If the guy really likes you, he'll keep trying whether or not you have issues because face it, we all have issues. If the guy is a friend, he'll think that you need distance. If the guy gives any flying s at all about you, he will try to understand or give you time to come to him.
