5 steps to achieving Korean Porcelain Skin

If you're anything like me, you have always been envious of the white, porcelain skin of Korean pop stars. Take Kim Tae Hee, Song Hye Kyo, and Han Ji Min for example. They are, in my opinion, the epitome of the classic Korean beauty. You cannot get anymore perfect than what they already are.

I guess you all have heard about all the usual ways to achieving this porcelain skin. Diet? Check. Whitening products? Check. Sunblock? Check. Now what. Even after doing all these, a lot of us still can't get our desired results. Well, today I will share with you 5 (secret) steps that you can take to achieve this type of skin.

STEP #1: GINSENG

Since ancient times, Ginseng has been known as a remedy for illness, and increases both wellbeing and stamina. It also reduces stress, and gives energy and vitality to the body. Ginseng is also very rich in anti-aging properties, and it strengthens both the inner and outer parts of the skin, giving it more elasticity and boosting blood circulation.

The best way to get all the goodness from ginseng is either to eat it, or drink it. A cup of ginseng tea every day is recommended, and in no time, you will be able to see changes to your skin. Actress Choi Ji Woo once stated that the secret to her baby face was drinking a cup of ginseng tea every morning.

However, if you hate the taste of ginseng (like me), there are always products that you can use on your skin. I do think that this is less effective as the nutrients will only work on the areas that you apply the products on. In addition, as the nutrients doesn't go into your bloodstream, it may take longer for you to see some results.

Here are some products that contain ginseng in them. There are probably a lot more products out there with different concentrations / different prices / different brands, but I thought it'll be good if I gave a few examples.

STEP #2: RICE WATER

Rice has always been the staple food for Asians, our main source of carbohydrate, but what do we actually know about its benefits?

Well for starters, rice provides relief for diarrhea, can be used to treat gastroenteritis, prevents cancer and Alzheimer's disease, controls high blood pressure, etc. It is also high in antioxidants and have natural anti-inflammatory and skin-protecting properties.

Similar to ginseng, rice water has been used since ancient times by Asian women to achieve that soft dewy complexion. Japanese women have also been alleged to have bathed in rice water. Over time, it also reduces the appearance of dark spots.

HOW TO GET RICE WATER
After washing your rice in water, do not throw away the water. Instead, keep it to wash your face / hair. It is best to use either organic rice or brown rice.

HOW TO USE RICE WATER
#1. Start with a clean face.
#2. Wash your face using rice water.
#3. You can also use it as a toner / mask.

But what if I don't eat rice / buy rice / etc?? Well, here are some products that contain rice in them.

STEP #3: MUNG BEANS

Mung beans are also known as green beans. Like ginseng and rice, mung beans has also been used for thousands of years for both health and beauty purposes. Mung beans have been used to reduce cholesterol levels, help in post-menopause symptoms, prevent cancer, and are a diabetic friendly food. It also aides in detoxifying the body, is known to clear acne, strengthens hair and nails, and enhances skin tone.

The best way to consume mung beans is by making a soup out of it. Mung bean soup is a widely known Asian dessert where it is boiled in a pot of water till the beans become soft and the soup thick. I like to add extra ingredients into my soup such as rock sugar, sago, and winter melon strips to give it a better taste. However, please note that you should not drink this soup if you are having diarrhea.

Some products that contain mung beans include:

STEP #4: L-GLUTATHIONE

Glutathione is a substance which is naturally produced by the liver. It can be found in fruits, vegetables, and meats, including broccoli, spinach, and red meats. It is a protein which consists of three amino acids, ie. cysteine, glutamic acid (glutamate), and glycine. It is extremely high in anti-oxidants and is effective in detoxifying the liver of toxins, heavy metals, and alcohol.

When taken by mouth: It helps in treating cataracts, helps in anti-aging, treating or preventing alcoholism, asthma, cancer, hearth disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and many other diseases.

When inhaled: It helps in treating lung diseases

When taken as a shot: It helps the quality of of in males, and prevents poisonous side effects of cancer treatment

Side effects:
Taking glutathione for a prolonged period of time does not give any side effects. The only discovered side effect is the whitening of skin, especially if you take it with Vitamin C. This is because the taking L-Glutathione inhibits tyrosinase activity, and this will reverse our melanin's metabolism, turning dark pigmentations into light pigmentations.

HOW TO CONSUME L-GLUTATHIONE
The amount of L-Glutathione consumed for skin-whitening purposes should be based on your weight, and the duration of intake should depend on your skin colour. Although I've done my research on this, I will not write it down here as it is best to ask your doctor or a certified medical staff about this.

WHERE TO BUY L-GLUTATHIONE
I will not place any products here as I have no way of knowing whether they are real or fakes. Similarly, please consult your doctor for recommendations.

STEP #5: VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is best known for its ability to strengthen the immune system. It also helps in detoxifying our bodies, aids our skin in repairing itself, and is an anti-oxidant that slows the rate of free-radical damage, ie. damaged collagen, skin dryness, fine lines, and wrinkles. Some fruits that are rich in Vitamin C includes oranges, strawberries, and limes.

When taken with L-Glutathione
The recommended dosage for Vitamin C is twice the amount of L-Glutathione that you are taking as it helps to keep L-Glutathione in its reduced / absorbable form. It will also release the potential of Vitamin C's whitening properties.

When taken alone
When taking Vitamin C alone in high dosages, your skin will also naturally lighten.

WHERE TO BUY VITAMIN C
There are many brands with different levels of Vitamin C dosages. The best way to get them is to head to your local pharmacy and enquire about them.

So here are the 5 steps that I believe will help you in your search for beautiful porcelain skin. I hope that you have enjoyed this post, and if there is anything else that you would like me to write about, feel free to leave a comment below! (:
