Keeper's Independence Day Movie Marathon

Today is our country's Independence Day and I'm celebrating it by exercising my freedom to have a Ghibli film marathon. Last post was well-received and through our conversations, I've decided to go through with my plan. Muahaha!

Arrietty or The Secret World of Arrietty commenced this momentous event. The film is based on the book, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. Although released in 2010, this is the first time I've seen the movie. It is about the friendship formed betweeen a Borrower (tiny person who borrows things from human beings) and a Human Bean and the love of family. Watch this fanmade video featuring Arrietty's Song in English:

Listen to the harp and vocal version here. It's very beautiful.

It was followed by Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. These two are pretty famous and I know most of you have seen it. Watch it again if you can. I just found out that Howl's Moving Castle has an ebook version >_> I paused Ocean Waves midway because I don't like the girl. aha.

Next in my list n the coming days or when I can spare an hour and a half: Whisper of the Heart, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, and many more... A friend in the lab gave me this collection of Ghibli films.

On cue: My Neighbor Totoro

(I have a cute Totoro pouch and bag from my sister. Mom doesn't like it when we buy anime merchandise. But we manage to slip a thing or two when we shop. Still, we never attempted to buy anything kpop. The only kpop merch here is a heart-shaped YUNHO fan, which is a gift to my sister. The YUNHO mousepad is at her office desk. )

Since I am posting about movies, on Sunday, I will go see How to Train Your Dragon 2 and I am pumped! I've seen the trailer and it looks really good. Oh, I have also seen X-Men: Days of Future Past and Maleficent a week ago, (or was it two weeks ago). I like them, especially how things wrapped up in the end.

It seems that Disney is redefining "true love's kiss" or "an act of love". It doesn't always have to be romantic love. Prince Charming is now demoted to a minor role, which I don't mind. That aside, the cute toddler who played Aurora is actually Angelina's daughter. So cuuuuteee. All the other toddlers were scared of Maleficent so they had her act the part. It was so easy to like Maleficent, don't worry, and there were a lot of adorable baby scenes and LOL moments. So, I don't mind recommending this one.

X-Men... This latest installment ... made it possible to make the series/story longer. And oh! It's nice to go back to the 1970's apparently. Had a lot of LOLs then too. I like the Charles x Raven subplot, sad, bittersweet...all that angst. Go check the trailer because my reaction to this movie is no use. I don't want to give away too much for those who haven't seen it yet. If you haven't seen any X-Men before, I don't think this movie is for you. I can't say it's a stand-alone because it isn't and it requires you to have prior knowledge about the series.

Unfortunately, I won't be watching The Fault in Our Stars; sis doesn't want waterworks inside the cinema and tells me that if we are going to watch a movie, it should be entertaining (we didn't watch Grave of the Fireflies for that same reason). I told her to read the novel (I haven't) because the reviews are good. Anyway, I'll just watch it on my own I guess.

And this ends my movie post :3

Was Princess Mononoke on your list? Because if it wasn't, it should be.
