Psychological tests are a popular way of finding more out about a person’s personality nowadays. Sometimes they can even be used to gauge somebody’s psychological inclinations. For example, the following question is often used in interrogations within Japan:

There was a family that was made up of a mother, father, and a child. One day, the father died in a horrible traffic accident. A funeral was held for him. At the funeral, many of the man’s friends and coworkers came to pay their respects.

Despite knowing how tasteless it is, the mother becomes enamored with one of her husband’s coworkers immediately. Shortly after the funeral, the mother kills her child.

Why did she kill her child?

Most criminals who take this test say something along the lines of “Because if she marries the coworker, the child will get in the way of making a new family,” or “She became unstable because of her husband’s death.”

But the worst criminals and sadists were far more likely to give the following answer:

“If there’s another funeral, she’ll be able to meet her husband’s coworker again…”

The only people known to have given this answer before are Tsutomu Miyazaki and Shoko Asahara.
