“I’m almost done. We have plenty of time, though. Stop making such a fuss about everything Shou-chan!”

He was being impatient, but he couldn’t help it.

The year was almost over…

Shou took a cigarette from his suit pocket and lit the tip.

 “Do you think your parents will be annoyed by our sudden change of plans?”

“What are you talking about?” he scoffed. “They’ll be glad just to see their grandson.” He looked over at their son who was lying on his side.

“Sorry to keep you waiting. I’m ready.” She smiled. “Hey, you…”

“What?”

“Come here.” She pointed at his neck, and he felt around his collar.

“Oh, I forgot.”

 “You can be so absentminded! Look at me… I love you,” she whispered, finishing the knot. “I always will.”

“Hey, don’t make this awkward…”

“We’re married! It’s okay to act like it once in a while.” The woman looked down, her face aglow with a shy smile.

“Love you, too.”

It felt like ages since they had spoken those words. It may have been a little embarrassing, but it wasn’t a bad feeling.

The man held his wife’s hand tightly.

“Let’s go?”

“Okay.”

And with that, he kicked the stool out from underneath them.
