Note: Between 1 and 3 am is considered to be the witching hour in Japan. Spirits and whatnot are supposed to be most active during these hours.

This isn’t anything huge, but it still scared me.

I went home to visit family. We all ate dinner together, and after I had taken a bath I went to my bedroom to try to sleep. I got into bed, but for some reason I couldn’t fall asleep. I grabbed my laptop and got on 2chan in hopes that I would get tired and fall asleep.

My family tends to go to bed early, so by the time midnight rolled around the house was silent.

At just past 2 am, I heard something out of nowhere.

“Ahahahahah, hahah…!”

Somebody was laughing, just outside my bedroom door. I was surprised and felt a chill run up my spine. Despite my fear, I was more shocked than anything.

Why?

The voice I heard was my own.

Once the shock had settled, I grew scared and curled up under my blankets until I managed to fall asleep.

The next day, I asked my little sister if she had heard anything since her bedroom is also on the second floor of the house. She didn’t hear anything.

I think it may have been a doppleganger, but… What was it?
