My Top 10 IU Songs

Hello peeps from IU Empire! There's only two weeks left until our girl's 21st (or 22nd in Korean age) birthday. I feel like everyone has been busy lately and I have nothing to read. orz. It's been three years since I liked IU and probably no one cares but I wrote a long list of my personal favorite songs of IU. <33

So here we go:

1. Peach

I admit that I didn't like it firstly as it sounded really strange compared to her pre-genres like Good Day, You and I, or other ballads but it took me only two more replays to completely fall for this song. The thing about non-catchy songs are that they make you crave for more and finally, Peach became my addiction. The MV is very pretty and I feel like the atmosphere, the wind, the brightness, the colors, and everything so perfect. It is my instant happy pill.

2. Voice-mail (Japanese ver.)

Another IU's self-composed song. I have these imaginary fanfic-ish scenarios (regardless of lyrics) whenever I listen songs without MVs and Voice-mail makes me imagine this story where everything you see is green and orange and yellow with paddy fields and sun setting countryside landscapes while a girl is standing inside a telephone booth on the side of a lifeless road. Everything outside the polluted city is beautiful to me. Lol. Well, putting it aside, I personally prefer the Japanese ver. because of the instrumental background and she delivered the right amount of emotion which is sadder and lonelier in my opinion.

3. I Don't Really Like Her

Neither does my MyungU heart. orz. Because MyungU is the crackiest ship ever according to Alluring, this song reminds me of beautiful and countless MyungZy fics that I can't help but admit how beautiful MyungZy would be as well. Nevertheless, I just love these type of genres and little Jieun makes my heart weep with her voice because her love life would not be always perfect and I'm a sadist. ;-;

4. Bad Day

I cried when I listened to the live version from the concert as I was having a hard time with my last year of high school and the only thing that seemed to understand me was this song. The hardship she'd faced during her training days is expressed so well and as Koreans usually say, her composing skill is no joke.

5. Between The Lips (50 cm)

Although Obliviate screams Harry Potter, I really love to listen to this song while reading Dramione fics. She sounds so witty and impatient and I love how y(?) her voice sounds. Modern Times album amazed me how different she sounds from the usual sweet and lovely stuffs. BTL is my most favorite song and I remembered how the teaser weirded me out at first. Haha.

6. Monday Afternoon

Finally, a happy song! It's one of the songs I've been replaying these days along with Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms. It's so fun to sing along with my lame voice but, well, except for the super dupa high note (the wasurete ita hazuna noniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii part) which seems like she's the only one who can bring that out. Again, glorious vocal from our queen.

7. Friday (Ft. Jang Yijeong)

Just when I thought she couldn't compose any better songs, Friday swept my heart as well as all the Kmusic charts as soon as it was released (now I sound like a salesman lol). I actually had a hard time choosing between Friday and Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms but finally I chose Friday because the collab is such a killer and the lyrics are beyond cute. On the side note, I noticed that IU has lots of luck with "days". Lol. Can't wait until she releases Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. Hohoho.

8. Obliviate

Okay, okay, I love it partly because of HP but what I'm telling you is that she works with the best composers and production teams ever. The song itself is a masterpiece--at least to me--as I love every second of this song: from the airy whispers to the heart-melting chorus. She sang the high notes differently in the song which is pretty hard to explain but I noticed that she began them with light pressure then turned into solid notes? Definitely another favorite song of mine from Modern Times!

9. The Story Only I Didn't Know

I'm so happy that they made MV for the song because it's my most favorite MV ever from IU. Depressing, mysterious, taboo-ish (possibly dark romance) storyline makes the song even more touching since it's not a typical Oppa-left-me ballad MV. I still can't figure out the story but I guess it's meant to be that way. I admit that I wouldn't love it as much without the video, so please forgive me. ;-;

10.  Child Looking For Stars

Oh my god. Someone please smack my head against the wall then make me listen to this song whenever I lose my feels for IU. orz. It happened before so yeah... The background music doesn't overwhelm her voice at all so it really shows how strong and powerful her voice can be. It seems like it's a popular song in S. Korea as many people audition with it in the singing competitions. Yayyyy because her songs are so underrated. Especially the good ones.

Yup, that's my top ten. Please don't be dead and tell me your ranking. I hope you guys have a hard time because I spent two nights listening the playlists to make the decision. OTL

Fun fact: IU's most favorite songs are Rain Drop (most favorite), Ugly Duckling, I Don't Really Like Her, Good Day and L'amant. *u* (answered a year ago)
