April 2014 Key Bonnie and Clyde Account

Last night I saw Key and Oh Soyeon as the leads in Bonnie and Clyde. I was lucky enough to have a second row seat in the left section of the orchestra.

To start off with, the production was fantastic. I loved the inclusion of real photos and headlines from the actual Bonnie and Clyde crimes, and how the actors worked with the photos and how the costumers created matching pieces was amazing. I saw Jack the Ripper last year and while they had the same "real news" technique, it wasn't as inclusive as it was in Bonnie and Clyde. The music was performed live (I believe) by an orchestra you couldn't see. There was a conductor who stood at the beginning for applause and there was a screen hanging on the mezzazine that showed her conducting. I don't know if that was for the actors, musicians or what because it's literally behind everyone.

Key was completely charming as Clyde. I really shouldn't have been surprised that the musical was romantasized and you see Bonnie and Clyde the way that Bonnie depicted them in her poetry- young lovers were ended up on the wrong side of the law because of circumstance. That's really kind of what they were, but it was interesting that the robberies seemed like a backdrop to the actual show. I think there are only two instances of robbery in the entire show. A lot of the show is spent focusing on Bonnie and Clyde's relationship, which I think Key and Soyeon did very well. There are lots of kiss/bed scenes to make any Key stan crazy. He was even shirtless for a time! The pair had a real chemistry and even though the kiss scenes were more intense than I've seen in other productions in Korea, it wasn't uncomfortable at all.

Key's singing was also a surprise to me. I mean, I know he can sing obviously, but I don't think I've ever had an opportunity to listen to JUST him actually singing. His voice was really well-suited to musical. He wasn't singing in the SHINee style (in fact, I didn't even think about the fact that he was in SHINee throughout the whole thing).

The best part of the night was when Key stood in the orchestra pit right in front of my section, close enough to touch, There were only three people in my row and he pointed his gun at us, asked if we were scared, and stole the glasses off of the face of the closest girl. Then he winked at us, tossed the glasses back and ran back to the stage.

I'm not sure how anyone EVER gets fancams because ushers were ALL OVER THE PLACE making sure people didn't even LOOK like they were taking pictures. I even saw people having their cameras checked as I was leaving. Another annoyance was finding out the merchandise desk was cash only- and there was no ATM in the buiding. >.< So I didn't get a program, but I really might go back for one because I have one from Jack...

The musical was GREAT so I really recommend it to anyone who has a chance to see it. You really won't regret it!

Ohhhhhhhh!!!! You are so lucky. I would love to watch him acting, Key should give a try in a drama, but a good one with a deep and tortured role maybe, he seems to be very good in delivering intense emotions. Thanks for sharing. Everytime I have the opportunity to read the real experience of someone meeting or watching Key, I get really excited and in this special case, a very proud fan. He has had a full schedule (thank God) since a couple of months, but he shows just true professionalism instead of tiredness. He could be in a very bad mood or injured, but no. Thanks God again, because I think, we, his fans know how much he loves to entertain.
