( style ) he says he just throws on whatever when he describes his style in interviews and the like, which is true. there's no rhyme or reason of how he picks out his clothing in the morning, because for the most part, he's too damn tired to make an effort. he remedies his fashion laziness by always having trendy things in his closet; t-shirts with the hot brands of today and yesterday or bands or random phrases (one of his favorites reads "things are boring when other people like them"), really nice sneakers (that he doesn't let anyone touch, ever), pairs of jeans that are actually expensive and maybe the odd snapback or two. he spends a lot of money on his clothes to make up for the fact that he could care a lot more about how he looks.

( personality )
— the best thing you can say about teddy's personality is that he's really, really outgoing. he's an extrovert, so in order to get the energy he needs from other people, he goes after them and starts up the conversation. there's something about teddy that just makes you want to be his friend - maybe it's the fact that he approaches people with a big smile on his face like he wants to get to know you, or the fact that he somehow always knows how to continue a conversation. honestly, you could be talking about snails or cannibalism and there's at least one language he could make a joke in. teddy's also skilled in having conversations not become awkward; if they do, he can change the subject and put the awkwardness behind him in about a second. teddy's the kind of guy that has a lot of friends of a lot of different types; standard nerds, fitness nuts, cute girls and crying noonas are all possible friends for teddy. it's not as much that he doesn't discriminate between other people as much as he doesn't care. are you nice? in that case, teddy nam wants to be your friend.

— also, note that teddy is a flirt; seriously, if he thinks you're hot, it just takes a "hello" for one to be under his spell. he's definitely no innocent who has no idea what love is when it comes to romance; when he flirts with somebody, he's experienced, suave, and smooth. he knows the right pick-up lines, body language and even cologne to charm pretty much anyone he needs charmed. however, teddy doesn't put emotions into his flirting, because he's yet to find his soulmate. he really does believe in true love - his parents, after all, are a shining example that love conquers all - but like most guys in their 20s, he's after . never, ever does he dwell too much on it, because if he does he'll hate himself for it. this he knows. he uses all the protection he can to keep his mind off of things, and has a perfect track record of not getting anyone pregnant. (so far.)

 

— in general, teddy's got a positive outlook on life. it's not like he had the easiest childhood, and he did start training from a fairly young age, but that didn't wipe the smile off of his face for a second. also, other people don't affect his mood easily. another member of freeze could be crying over their hardcore relationship drama, or something, and he'd still probably be grinning. luckily, his intense optimism spreads to other people easily. combine that with his general social-ness, and you've got what i believe is known as a happy virus - first he's happy, and before you know it, you start smiling as well. he's got leaps and bounds of energy, too - he acts more like a six year old than he does a 21 year old, honestly. in concerts and stages he's always jumping up and down and trying to get the crowd going (often by yelling random phrases in spanish or english). he's always got a joke up his sleeves on variety shows and due to having no sense of shame whatsoever, he's fine with embarassing himself. especially if it makes other people happy - that's his goal.

— however, thanks to not growing up in korea, teddy's not great with being formal. he often forgets to call his older members "hyung" and doesn't think before he speaks - like, ever. it's teddy who's causing the scandals in the group, because he speaks without thinking. if there's a secret he seriously has to keep he'll monitor himself, but otherwise, teddy just runs his mouth off without thinking. if that means accidentally bullying or hurting the feelings of s, he'll apologize immediately afterwards or swear in a language that isn't korean and then apologize. but the words are still out there. there's no editing them out of a member's memories; there is no way to really apologize if he seriously screws up. most people can forgive teddy for his stupid words and the fact that he almost always thinks without speaking (that applies to every language, by the way), but sometimes he goes too far. when that happens, it's just a ball of regret and sadness.

— in addition to that, and a bit surprisingly, teddy holds grudges. usually it's him doing the wronging with his careless way of speaking, butif you hurt him/call him a half-breed/whatever, he won't forgive you. it matters not how long he's known you, how much he trusts you - if you hurt teddy, it takes a long time for you to earn his friendship back if you manage to do so at all. it doesn't take much for you to become teddy's friend, and it doesn't take a lot for you to lose his friendship either. he doesn't forgive other people, simple as that; he never has, and he also never will. it doesn't matter if you don't mean it or if it's just teasing - he gets show hosts, maybe, but if you're his friend, say your goodbyes.

— lastly, teddy's insecure. he never quite fit in growing up - elaborated on below - and he experiences racism now thanks to being an argentinian in the k-pop world. despite his grin and friendly attitude, there's always, always a nagging at the back of his mind. "you're not good enough. you don't belong in korea, or argentina, or the united states. oh, and your groupmates think so too." (although, obviously, that's not true.) he's not even the best rapper in his group and that fact alone is enough to drive him to practice rapping alone until his throat is sore for the next day. there's some invisible star he wants to reach for that's always juuust out of reach, and until he gets there, he'll hide his insecurity between the and the smiles. it's a lot easier to get away with hating yourself if you're smiling while doing so.   

( history )
— thanks to issues with his' mother, maria guida's, visa, teddy spent the first five years of his life living with his mother's family in a poorer part of buenos aires. he didn't fit in there. his mother's family were white latinos and there was something that a toddler teddy couldn't name that he also couldn't fix. they spoke the same language, ate the same food, went to bed at the same time, but they didn't look the same. that was enough to plant the seed of doubt in the toddler teddy's mind - i am different.

 

— finally, when teddy was five, the issues with teddy's mom's visa were resolved and the two moved to san diego. that's where teddy met his father, nam daehyun, a korean office worker who had met maria on a business trip to argentina. the family of three (and later, teddy's little sister isabella) lived a happy-ish life in san diego, but throughout school (especially middle school, as teddy didn't get very much of a high school experience thanks to being a trainee) teddy didn't fit in. he was too asian for the other hispanic kids, too hispanic for the other asian kids, and overall just pretty lonely. the freaks and geeks he did befriend he fell out of touch with when he auditioned for jyp entertainment in 2006, the year he started high school. (except one. elaborated on below.) it was just something he decided to do on a whim at the time - he wasn't confident in his skills as a musician, he just liked jay-z - and got in. he took the opporitunity without telling his parents (who, surprisingly enough, approved of his sudden move to korea, his father especially), and trained hard to just be accepted somewhere.

— soccer (he can't play to save his life but he follows it; it's the only sport he cares about. teddy also owns a lot of argentina football jerseys that he wears to practice sometimes.)
