Has your tongue battled for dominance recently?

I had never heard that expression until arriving at AFF. Is this a case of authors reading it in other fics and then copying it and ultimately overusing and abusing it?

His tongue fought for dominance.

She battled his mouth for dominance and won.

He fought for dominance with his strong tongue, but this time his lover won.

Battling for dominance, her tongue invaded his mouth.

What the HECK IS that?!

It's my absolute pet peeve!!!

Why does everyone use that?!!?! I'd understand if it were only amateur writers but even some of my favorite AFF writers (who shall remain nameless) over-use this silly expression. Is this the equivalent of tonsil-hockey and does everyone who makes out necessarily do it in such a way that it's a 'tongue fight'? Is that even hot? Over-played like it is? Really?!
