AFF Pet Peeves (Rant)

These are just some of my AFF pet peeves, if you get offended easily take down the walls of your narrow mind set and read it anyway. I will list them and then make a small rant further down the page.

  1. People complaining about people advertising on their walls.
  2. People complaining about Subscriber only stories.
  3. People complaining about every damn change on AFF.

Advertising: How the hell does someone advertising their hard work on your wall to get a little recognition hurt you in any way, shape or form? Please do tell because I will sit here and read your argument to my argument. People always complain about not having fics to read, well you could have fics to read if you weren’t so hurt about the wall advertising. And in my opinion NO ONE should feel ashamed for advertising their fics on someone’s wall. They're just mad because you found a better way to get noticed rather than paying 7000+ Karma points to win the advertising bid.

Subscribers Only: ‘Ugh, why do people put subscribers only aioha0fh0q83rhfousafdhns!’  I for one do it for the greater privacy and this way it’s easier to track down those who wish to plagiarize. Plus now you can click into the first chapter for a glimpse of what the story is like. So all you whiners need to get over yourself, subscribe, see how the story is and then if you don’t like it un-subscribe. There, problem solved, quit complaining about it.

AFF: You are all just miserable aren’t you? Things change, places grow and years come with developments. AFF is still a baby if you think about it and it’s going to change in the future and we are going to get new users every day. Authors will come and go and new bands will be added to the tags. Change is hard but at some point we all need to accept it. To those saying they are leaving AFF because ‘it’s changed’ well all the power to you, I hope you come back someday with an open mind set. Because guess what, everything changes not just some Fanfic site on the internet.

Okay. Rant finished; comments? XD

I can't say I know how you or other writer felt when I didn't post any comments or when I ask the author to update soon because I'm just a reader not a writer...
but sometimes I just don't have enough confident to post any comments and I will just write like, "I really like your story, can't wait for the next update...n.n Fighting...^^"
I'm sorry to all the writer who feel offended with my word...

thanks to you because of you I can understand how an author feeling more... And I will try harder to comment every stories which I read...

Exactly authors should write because it's what they love to do not because of fame I understand if a author wants a little recognition in the comments and I'm not one for change but I know it has to happen anyway so it's better to go with the flow and see how it goes instead of complaining about it._.

That's totally reasonable and agreeable.
I usually ignore those types of people because it does get a bit annoying

Comments: I agree, especially with the last part. Like, how do you have time to read a whole chapter but not enough time to comment? It's like people that text you and you text them back right after and they don't reply for like days. What did you do? Text me "hi" and then chuck your phone out your window? >~<; confusion. Also though, often when I read fics it's like in the dead of night so I am half dead by the time I finish a chap. Even so, I try to comment but there have been instances where I've actually fallen asleep while typing my comment ._. Even so, I would always type my comment like the morning when I wake up again XD.
Advertising: I agree how it doesn't hurt me and it's completely understandable why they do it. (Some are even nice enough to apologize after XD) I do admit I kinda get annoyed by some RP ads though, but even so the most I do is just ignore them. I don't complain or tell them off, it's not that big of a deal for me. LOL I HAVE FICS TO READ.
Subs Only: Yeah, I also don't really understand why people complain about this. It's like, if you don't like the fic then just unsub later 0-0 (of course some people *cough me cough* are kinda sensitive to unsubbing and idky but I just feel really bad whenever I hit that button, but like it's kind of being honest in a way and yeah....IDK.) It also feels like a commitment problem, like some people are afraid to commit to a fic? I also know that some authors make their fics "Sub only" to keep track of/count who is actually reading their fics. As like a way of dealing with silent readers because if they don't comment at least the authors still know that they're reading their fics. Which is pretty clever if you ask me ._.
AFF: CHANGE IS INEVITABLE AND I HAVE THIS FEELING THAT EVERYBODY (EVERY-EVERY-BODY) HATES CHANGE. which is true like everywhere. Whenever FB or YT changes there's always controversy and complaints. JUST KEEP IN MIND THAT IF WE NEVER HAD CHANGE THEN WE WOULD ALL STILL BE DINOSAURS RIGHT NOW.

Oh and subscribers only you can now view the chapter before subscribing. It's only a short preview but that should've satisfied people -__- It only takes two clicks: Subscribe or unsubscribe. How they feel 'forced' as some are saying to subscribe I'll never understand.

As for subscribers only, I don't get why some authors/readers are getting so up in arms about other authors using this option or any privacy option for that matter. I personally don't use it, but I understand why some want to use this option. And no, it's not to 'gain subscribers' either as a lot of people are lumping all authors who use this option as 'greedy'. Some have been plagiarized numerous times so maybe that's why they use it I don't know. This one author, actually expected people to follow her lead with not using subscribers only for their stories and got defensive when people disagreed with her ^^; How pathetic. We have these options so us writers can feel more comfortable on AFF what's so bad about that? True some abuse the system but not all. Others have legit reasons for using it.

Ah people who bash or complain advertisers...they are the worst if you ask me. They could just set their profile to friends only if they don't want advertisers or say it politely they don't want people advertising on their wall :/ It's not that hard to be nice like that. Some are just being drama queens about it.

I think some users are being way too dramatic over the changes on AFF. If they want to leave, well, they are free to leave but every site they go on will experience some kind of change. We don't have to like said changes but at least show some respect to Jason and the other mods who work hard to make AFF a great fanfiction site to be on.

WARNING: super long comment, I tend to do these which is why I don't do it much ><

THANK YOU.. The subscribers only thing I think is a good idea, I use it for my finished fics to see who still reads them, it makes me feel better about myself as a writer because so many readers read a completed story and you don't even know, which is why so many of them are taken down even if it's the best story you might've read. I do subscribe to completed stories if I've liked them, in a way I feel it shows that 'yes, people still like and read your work'. Also, some writers write about their personal lives, I know I am and I'm not really fond of having complete strangers into my life if I don't at least have a username, it says a lot about a person. And I do agree on the 'please update soon author-nim' thing, I don't know about you but I get real excited when I see the 'new story comment' notification and it kind of bums me out when that's all they say, sometimes I feel like it's just mechanical more out of habit than actually from the heart. And the advertising, I actually like to read them to see the different things they come up with, I think their fun and I have gotten a lot of good unrecognized stories from them and a lot of RP's as well. People don't understand that advertisements are pretty much commercials for internet sites, even if you may not like some there's probably a lot out there that you'd enjoy and otherwise would not find if it weren't for that ad. Be thankful that you were considered for an advertisement, that person was pretty much saying 'I think I can give you something you'll enjoy' and all these people get mad at them because they're narrow minded and judgmental, stubborn pricks for a lack of a better explanation.

Glad I got to read this on time for my comment to make sense *usually reads blogs weeks after they're posted, too awkward to comment* OTL

When it comes to the whole advertising thingy on peoples walls, I don't think it's the stories that pop up that they're annoyed about, more like RPs and the layout shops, and honestly, if you don't like getting those ads then I think it's fair enough to say no to them

And about the comments - I don't know if I'm misinterpreting (is that spelled right or..) something here, but I think you're going against yourself. Like, you pointed out that most writers do write for the enjoyment, but if that's the case why can't a few "author-nim pls update juseyo" be welcomed? It at least shows that someone likes your work, and isn't that, all in all, what the authors would like to hear?
And tbh I don't get constructive criticism at all on my stories, but I do get small comments that go in the line of "I love you and your work" or "can't wait to see what happens", and I'm glad for those. And in my opinion, if you're writing for yourself then the amount of comments or the lenght shouldn't be playing such a big part - you'd know from the view thingy that people read your stuff, and if the inspiration and the fuel to keep on writing is there, do it, wether you get comments or not. If you're not writing for the people, don't expect them to write long- comments for you to keep writing. Wether you want to keep on writing or taking stories down is your choice, not theirs.

I whole-heartedly agree with you... People whine too much about the silliest things.

About the authors not updating until they get X comments or subscribers or whatever... I think it's a bit... Desperate... *shrugs*
