AFF Writer/Reader Survey

So I just dyed my hair and I'm currently half sobbing because my head is on fire and I've recieved chemical burns to my scalp. On a plus side though, my hair is looking fine as hell and still super soft and shiny. #WINNING

Anyhow, since I'm just as self obsessed as anyone else is, I decided I'd answer some questions- mainly for myself. I'm teaching myself to love writing again and get back on here as fast as possible.

State your fanfiction pen name.

-haneul-gateun (you know the drill!)

Are you more of a reader or a writer?

-probably a writer... although I've been slacking. I love reading other people's stories but most of the ones I absolutely adored ended nearly a year ago (My Crazy Hot Aliens anyone?!) so I'm sort of low on reading material.

When did you first start reading/writing fanfiction?

-My guess is February 2012. I started reading about a week before I made an account and I started writing the very same day.

What’s the first fanfiction you ever read/wrote? What is it about?

-That Girl, That Boy.

It's about a girl named Haneul Shin who ends up moving into a 12 guy dorm after a load of really horrible events. goes down, the boys have their own secrets and weaknesses and it's a romance, comedy and most importantly DRAMA story all rolled into one 100+ chapter story.

What ratings do you read/write?

-PG?...

What was your first fandom?

-OOOOOOOOOOH. Damn, first fandom... Sone? Or maybe VIP?

List all the fandoms you have read/written in.

-Eurgh.

Read: EXO, B.AP, Block B... Sm Town?

Written: EXO, Infinite (and in Kidulthood 100%: kind of B.A.P, kind of Block B, kind of Got7/JJ Project, kind of f(x), kind of SNSD)

What is your favorite fandom to read/write for?

-EXO all the way. Most people write for EXO and genuinely so many good stories are EXO stories. EXO are trumping the tags and for good reason too.

Any fandom you would like to write in?

-Not really

What was your first ship?

-Kyungsoo x Me and Chanyeol x Me

Truthfully, I don't ship pairings. I only write about them since readers love it so much.

List all the pairings you have read/written in.

-The usual ones included that I try to include are: Kaisoo, Hunhan, Baekyeol. I've also written an angst story for each of these pairings lol

Kidulthood 100% also includes Kryber(?) and Henber(?).

What is your favorite pairing to read/write for?

-EXOxOC, KyungsooxOC, ChanyeolxOC (am I letting my bias show?)

Is there any pairing you refuse to read/write?

-I don't read romantic boyxboy pairings nor girlxgirl pairings and I wouldn't really write them either.

What do you think of het stories? Slash/? Femslash/Yuri?

-N-O, end of.

What is your favorite genre?

-Comedy, romance, angst and drama. The four I like to dabble in!

Also school life and slice of life- something I can easily imagine myself as the main character in.

What is your least favorite genre?

-Mpreg and . Fantasy. Things that just aren't feasible. I also don't really like stories where the characters are trainees or idols etc.

Any genre you would like to read/write for?

-I want to write more angst stories or psychological stories.

List all of your favorite writers.

-Holy. Okay.

sammatsui (babe,  man stealer and sasspot)

Areumdaun (so funny I can't breathe)

dbskgirl4ever (Crazy Hot Aliens, need I say anymore?)

I-am-bored (a Chanyeol story that never fails to get me on edge at every cliffhanger)

thecafewriter (possibly the best oneshots ever)

Which writer inspires your own work?

-probably thecafewriter? Descriptive-wise, I really love her writing.

What story has the most impact to you, so much that you remember it all the time?

-Anterograde Tomorrow, Abitrage, 10080 etc. The usual fandom classics.

Also, yes you guessed it. My Crazy Hot Aliens by dbskgirl4ever

What is the website you use most to read/write fanfiction?

-AFF

Any certain things you avoid reading/writing about?

-, Yuri, Mpreg etc

What do you enjoy best about fanfiction in general?

-The best and the worst thing about fanfiction is that it isn't real. You can lose yourself in a new world and become a different person, experiencing the emotions the author is trying to make you feel which is the best. It's an escape.

But then what about when you realise that the story isn't real and Kyungsoo hasn't just kissed you and Chanyeol hasn't just got down on one knee and proposed and you don't have half of EXO chasing after your heart. Yup, life's .

Do you have any fanfiction pet peeves?

-Just bad grammar. An amazing plot and story can be ruined immediately through bad grammar. I also hate a bad presentation so things like unecessary colors and text changes as well as a lack of proper paragraphing etc really grinds my gears.

How long should a chapter be?

-Long enough to move the plot in an interesting direction, introduce a new character or throw another bomb at your readers.

Have you ever flamed someone?

-Definitely not. Attacking someone online is pathetic and cowardly. Why say anything if you've got nothing polite, constructive or nice to say?

Have you ever been flamed?

-Thankfully not yet.

Do you roleplay online?

-No

(Writers Only)

How many published fanfictions have you written?

-Good question... 8-9 (depends if you count the TGTB alternate endings as a seperate story or not)

Which one of your fanfictions has the most words? The most subscribers? The most views? The most comments? The most upvotes? How many?

Most words: That Girl, Which Boy? (no idea how many but like 128 chapters mate...)

Most subscribers: That Girl, That Boy (approx 5700)

Most views: That Girl, Which Boy? (approx 196,000)

Most comments: That Girl, Which Boy? (approx 7000)

Most upvotes: That Girl, Which Boy? (approx 400)

At the moment, which one of your fanfictions is your favorite/you are the most proud of? (you can include unpublished fanfictions)

-Presently I'm most proud of the That Girl series and Inebriation. I'm also really fond of Kidulthood 100% as I've planned everything and started writing chapters for like chapter 50-60... Unpublished wise, I'm in love with my two other angst stories- Tomorrow's Stranger and The Memoirs of Oh Sehun.

Out of all characters you have written, which one do you feel you identify the most with?

-Baekhyun and Ara in Kidulthood 100%. Kyungsoo in Inebriation. At times, Haneul in the That Girl series.

Do you use beta reader?

-No

What warnings have you used on your stories?

-Swearing and cursing happens a lot so there's that. Kidulthood 100% will be full of issues I want to discuss surrounding high school life.

Do reviews affect how you write in any way?

-No one's really written me a review. Comments make me happy though!

What makes you happy the most as a writer?

-Finding out what readers liked. Seeing their reactions on Twitter and reading comments here. Getting messages of support from readers. Gaining the satisfaction of knowing that someone out there thinks your work is good and looks forward to what you'll come out with next.

Do you generally outline your fanfictions or do you prefer to write spontaneously then revise?

-I started off writing spontaneously and revising in That Girl, That Boy since I honestly had no idea what I was doing- I just knew I wanted to escape the real world. Now I generally plan everything as it gets me excited but along the way, spontaneous ideas pop up (inspiration comes from dreams, movies, music etc) and I'll weave it into something I can use.

Have you ever stolen something from another person’s work?

-You could say that Kidulthood 100% was me stealing the idea of a multi fandom story. I really liked some of the SM Town ones where the different bands interact so I wanted to write my own in the same sort of style.

What do you feel is your biggest challenge when writing?

-Writing down exactly what I envisage the situation to be myself. I want readers to know exactly what the weather was like, how they felt etc but sometimes it gets repetetive and I feel like my first draft is usually a little boring.

Do you have any certain ritual to do before/while/after you write?

-I always write a part of the first draft of a chapter on my phone, usually on the bus or when I'm going to bed. I'll edit it a little later on my phone then email it to myself and transfer it to AFF. Then I'll edit it more and finish off the chapter in AFF before posting. When I'm writing I usually listen to music unless it's really distracting and after I post a chapter, I tend to hang around until I see a comment flash up. Then I'll go to bed (since I usually update late at night)

Do you actively advertise your story or request for reviews/upvotes?

-No

Oh my god I love dbskgirl4ever and thecafewriter >.< I read my crazy hot aliens the first and the sequel and comptel fell in love with it and thecafewriters oneshots are always amazing to read I also look up to her with her writing skills ^^ but I also look up I you too because I can't really write long stories I end up losing my inspiration and I don't really plan things out...but the story I'm working in right now I guess I'm going to try and prefect the things I'm not really good at and whenever I read your stories I always get really motivated to do better. ^.^
I'm also a complete grammar nazi I want everything to be perfect so I absolutely hate it when a story line is really good but then the grammar is just awful -.- I guess that's what about being a perfectionist :(
