SOPA Stuff, idk

First of all, to the people who are going onto my stories and posting links to the SOPA Opposers Petition in the comments section, please stop. As much as I am happy that you all are exercising your rights as citizens and standing up for your beliefs, my stories are not the place to be making political statements. In lieu of those comments, I decided to just make a blog post for all the people who want to get involved. Here are the pertinent details:

H. R. 3261: Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) was introduced in the House in 2011 and because of huge public opposition, it didn't go through. Although the bill is not back on the Floor or being directly or openly discussed, there is apparently a committee somewhere, following the Section 512 of Title 17 hearing, in Washington that is discussing Copyright reform, and the discussion is basically starting to sound like SOPA. There's a petition going around on White House Petitions with signatures of people who oppose the bill and oppose the passing of any limiting copyright reforms. I'm not one to push political beliefs on people, but I do gt very annoyed when people have uninformed or poorly informed political attitudes towards things. So, here are the links, and you can decide for yourself what you think of this discussion:

From what I've read, the bill is trying to target sites that directly infringe on copyrights such sites that stream pirated movies, have videos of live musical and theatrical performances, and sites that sell counterfeit items (like sites that sell fake...Birkins or non-standard military gear), and tries to distinguish between commercial and on-commercials Internet products and services. However, it's problematic for sites with lots of user-based content because the bill also hold the website masters responsible for any copyright infringement made by the users, and one person's copyright infringement could be basis to shut down the site for all users, regardless of whether or not they were spreading commercial online products. I'm not sure if AFF counts in all this since the site doesn't make money directly off of the user content (i.e. fan fiction) and although the names of the groups are copyrighted by the different companies, it's not as though we're using the names commercially or re-distributing the same products or trying to make money off of it. idk, it's weird.

Also, yo, please don't post anymore links to the petition site on my stories/blogs/profile/wall. It's nice seeing you all being so proactive and fanatical, but honestly, getting the same link in 15 different comments on 15 different stories gets tiring after a while.

So much politics, it's not even an election year XD

EDIT [17 MARCH 2014; 9:54 AM]

The petition is apparently fake, people. Here's a link with an explanation.

Honestly, I just heard about this like, today, lol. Right now I'm sorta indifferent about this, but I know at some point I will start to care because I use the internet and some of the things I do on the internet are related to this. Just wondering though, and you don't have to answer it, but what is your stance on this?
