Mr. Perfect A/N

Update #14: Almost through! Hope you liked it :) There's only the epilogue left now. A little teaser: in part one, Myungsoo will be celebrating his birthday with his friends, his new boyfriend, his idol, and of course, his sister. So, there will be Sungjong, Sungyeol, Sunggyu, Kyungran, Hoya, and Myungsoo in one place. How will that turn out? xD

In the second part, Viktorie will take lead and talk us through the rest of the year with the heroes of the story. What all will have happened by then? I guess you'll have to wait for me to finish writing that to know for sure xD

Thanks to everybody who stuck around to read this! It means so much for me, you don't even know :') At the last author's note, I'll talk through what this story had meant to me, why I made some decisions that I made, and of course, I'll give you a teaser for the next story. So stay tuned!

Karma out :)

Update #13: And it's here! Finally, Myungsoo gets to kiss somebody! Well, whether this really is his Mr. Perfect, you'll find out soon enough, but at this point, I'm afraid I have to say that the story is coming to a close. There are only very few chapters left, and there will be an epilogue following very soon afterward.

If you're reading this, then you probably deserve to know who the Mr. Perfect. It is, indeed, Yeollie. I've left a lot of clues along the way, for people to find if they looked. Someone had already mentioned this before, but Myungsoo had never had a moment when he would feel his heart skip or his breathing increase or anything like that before. He did feel embarrassed, but that's about it. Also, I said somewhere that the main guy is the person who fits the story's theme better. Well, that's definitely Sungyeol - up until now, his relationship with Myungsoo was this funny, love-hate bickering that had people rolling on the floor laughing, whereas Sungjong had always symbolized the more mature type of relationship, with all that he was saying and doing.

There's more that I wanted to express in this chapter, and that was that not everyone is who they seem to be. There's more to people than what they're stereotyped to be. I've already shown before that there is more to the vain Sungjong, and now I wanted to show that even the childish Sungyeol was more than just childish.

Mr. Perfect is coming to a close soon, but the sequel, Before I Sleep, will be posted shortly. However, the estimated date for chapter one is October 1 at this moment. I want to take my time with the rest of my stories, as I've been neglecting them really badly in the last couple of months. You may or may not want to read it, as it will be a VERY different story from this one.

Update #12: How did you like the bathroom time Myungjong spent together? Actually, something very similar happened to me not too long ago, when I ran into a drunk friend in the bathroom, and he actually admitted to being gay out of the blue. I mean, I've always suspected it, but to hear it come out of his mouth was really shocking...

Anyway, it all came to me one night when I was playing Age of Empires with some guys here in a PC-bang. I practically ran back home and just started typing like crazy. Got it written in like 20 minutes, and then just spend another 10 proof-reading and editing. I'm quite happy about how it turned out, but also a little bit weirded out about how I made it, because there are a couple of unexpected things that happened without me really planning it beforehand.

1) I never wanted Key to date Sungjong. That was completely out of the blue, in the PC-bang.
2) I originally planned Myungsoo to end up in the Jacuzzi with a bunch of people, and those people were supposed to disappear one by one, leaving the two alone after some time.
3) I never planned for Sungjong to get drunk. But I guess it's a better way of explaining why he was so eager to tell Myungsoo everything than my original idea. And it got them into the bed.
4) HOW THE F*** DID THEY END UP IN THE BED???

Anyway, there's a pretty huge clue in there that will tell you what the main pairing is. I'm not going to say it out loud, but I think that the overall mood of the chapter and its ending pretty much gives it away. Still, I'll keep it a secret for now, since there are plenty of people who will have missed in~

Update #11: Finally almost reaching the ! We're almost there, ya'll! A couple more chapters until the story's peak! Yay!

So, what's in next? As I said in the preview, 2 characters are going to appear in next chapter. One of them you should still remember, and hopefully like. And the other will be important in the sequel! So yeah, it's gonna be Key. Key and someone. Someone you know. Someone crazy.

I'm already done with finalizing the concept for the sequel, I think. It's gonna be sort of cliche, but hopefully not too much. Oh, well, there is this one really big cliche thing about the story, but who cares? People still enjoy reading cliche anyway :D And you're all going to hate Key at first. I can almost guarantee that.

As for this story's ending: I plan to write a couple of things after it ends. First, I want to make a short, but sweet and fluffy epilogue. Just a scene that portrays the final couple just in their element. And I'm gonna make it And after that, I want to make a weird thing that I don't even know if it's going to work--something like an interview with the characters. Do y'all think it'll work? Well, you don't really know what it is yet, so you probably don't T.T

Update #10: I hope you don't mind the filler nature of this chapter. But from time to time, fillers are necessary to give a better insight into the story's background :)

So I guess that you're really, really curious about what those riddles mean. I'll try to explain them to you, but I won't tell you what that means for the story--I have intentionally used them in a broader sense than they were originally used in Stargate.

1) How deep is the river if you cannot see the bottom?
This one is relatively easy. How can you know for sure if you don't see things for what they are? How can you be certain of something unless you have experienced it?

2) If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, then the meal was already cooked a long time ago.
This one is my favorite. Since I first heard it when I was like eight, I had totally no clue what it meant back then. But from how I interpret it now, it means that if you already have a biased opinion, then your resolution was formed a long time ago.

3) The river tells no lies, though standing on the shore the dishonest man still hears them.
Quite similar to the one above. Even if the situation is clear, if your opinion is biased, you won't see the clarity.

4) Lightning flashes, sparks shower; in one blink of an eye, you have missed seeing.
This one has many meanings. It can mean that every moment in life is precious. Or it can mean that if you miss even a tiny piece, the entire picture will become blurred.

How you interptet all of these is up to you! But I think that I made my position pretty clear ;)

Last thing I want to add: the fortune teller is NOT clairvoyant or anything. Myungsoo actually did get scammed. He just is too slow to realize it... There's a very tiny hint in the text that might tell you how she knows his name. Though there is another hint that can completely throw you off scent when it actually has nothing to do with it. And by the way, she's going to be a fixed character in the sequel that I'm planning :)

Update #9: This was a very crazy chapter, indeed. I pushed the limits of my comedy-writing skills, and I hope I didn't disappoint. I tried to narrate it through what I think was Myungsoo's dry humour, and I hope that it came out just alright. If you haven't already, please do leave a comment on the story :)

A couple of references from the chapter:

1) The cardboard boat race is actually a real event from my life. Me and my friends did it last year, and one of my friends actually did bring water bombs. Believe it or not, they're really effective as a distraction, and people actually topple over when they get hit by one, especially if they're hit in the face. I got hit and toppled over...

2) The couplings of the racers isn't completely random. There are a couple of references here and there. Taemin and Naeun from WGM, Milk Caramel, of course, Kwanghee/Lee Joon/Seonhwa from WGM, Gyuri/Seungho loveline,...

3) Hope you didn't forget that Ms. Jung is Jung Juri, the idol hunter xD I still remember her days on Star Golden Bell, and all her kisses with Onew XD

EDIT: 4) Chicken chest! Lololol I forgot to add it here... Anyway, AJ said that he eats chicken chests in an interview with EYK xD They all died at that comment lol xD

More about the loose sequel I talked about: I want to re-challenge dark-theme stories. The main character will be a very hateful character, and I thought for a long time, which idol would best fit the role? And who would fit as the second half of the pairing? I thought about it for quite some time, and finally decided to write a Jongkey story. Because Key is just a perfect match for my main character. But I also didn't want to create a whole new world to fit the story into, because I'm starting to get confused about everything. I have too many Keys and Myungsoos to work with. Therefore, I decided to incorporate the new story in the already-established universe of Mr. Perfect. It helps a lot that I haven't used Key in this story yet. And I'm very confident I can re-use my characters from this story somehow.

Now, I know that most of you read my story because it's so fun and light-hearted. I don't expect people to swarm to the other story just because it's a sequel. In some ways, it's a completely independent story. But I do hope that some of my readers who just read my stories because they're mine will enjoy it! Especially if you read Schoolboy Crush, you should find yourself right at home with it.

Update #8: I hope you liked this chapter too xD The main pairing is yet to be determined--now I'm just shifting a lot of spotlight from Sungjong to Sungyeol, so that he stands an equal ground to our maknae. I bet some of you are really hating me right now for still keeping the secret from you! But well, now I totally understand how "Reply" writers felt; it's just really nice to see people speculating and fishing for clues in the story~

I think it's pretty clear what will happen on the competition day. You know that the boat is a disaster, I promised skinship, and the title is "Water Does You Good." What does that imply, huh? There's nothing more romantic than a leisure swim with your loved one... it's just that the swim won't be very leisure, and Myungsoo definitely doesn't think of Sungyeol as his loved one... yet... I'm just messing with you guys now xD

I'm quite busy these days with my writing contest coming to a close, so please bear with me if I won't be able to update on time next week. I want to start updating all my other stories, so there's a chance that the next update might get delayed by a day or two, depending on how much time I devote to my other stories. But I'll do my best, I promise!

I wonder if anyone is reading this; if you are, please kindly answer the following question in the comments of this blog; it will have some impact on the story. What do you want to happen during the upcoming trip to Jeju-do? All INFINITE members will be there, and so will all the other supporting characters. Thanks~ (if no one replies, I'll be really, really sad... just saying)

Update #7: Yay, I'm back! Finally, after weeks of struggling with "The Tempest" for my literature class and "Social Darwinism" for my psych class, I'm back to writing! Sorry if the chapter was a little weak; my re-writes are always worse than my original versions...

Did I fool you with the slavery? XD I probably shouldn't have gotten your hopes up. I didn't want Sungjong to completely monopolize Myungsoo, so I decided to cut it off there - since really, Sungjong just went too far with that. Yes, it works wonders in dramas, but I don't think of my story as a potential drama plot - I know it's a fanfiction, but I'm trying to stick as close to reality as I possibly can. Which means unpredictable turns everywhere!

A lot of people thought that Seo In Guk was really Hoya's boyfriend. Well, here you go - he's not. I never said he was - it was all in Myungsoo's head. I never gave any evidence that he was. What I wanted to show there was that blindly jumping to conclusions is not reasonable (my poor Othello), and that you always need to be prepared for the unexpected. Although it may seem that Hyuna's appearance is completely random and that I made it up on the spot, that's not the case - I knew that Hoya and she were dating in my world from chapter 1. Because the only way to get Myungsoo over his idol is to show him that he has absolutely no chance. Yes, it's cruel, I know, but Myungsoo needs to move on. Some character development should finally take place.

What's going to happen next? Well, Myungsoo, Sungyeol, and Sunggyu need to get their ship built. At some point, they need to race. Then, at some other point, they all will go to Jeju-do for filming. At some point in between, the main romance will start to develop as well. And then, they will probably start dating. And that's when my story will end - yes, the ending is not that far away. I never imagined that this story would go over 30 chapters anyway. I could say that right now, I'm about one third-halfway done with it. Since this is supposed to be a romantic comedy, I don't want to introduce any drama between the couple, so I'll end soon after they confess their feelings for each other. BUT WHO'S THE MAIN PAIRING?! I still don't know TT.TT

Update #6: Finally an update! It's coming a little later than I expected, but it's here nonetheless. Rejoice!

Myungsoo's experiencing the infamous 5 stages of grief. Will he reach the last one? What do you think? Will he accept the harsh reality? xD

I've had a little bit of trouble writing this chapter at first; I couldn't concentrate on writing and kept getting distracted by other stuff that's happening in my life. My school life is a total mess right now, and it's just been one week since the spring break ended. I just want this semester to end ASAP so I can get some rest...

What do you think of Sungjong? Why is he acting the way he is? He said something in the chapter that might give you a good idea of what he's thinking.

To be honest, Myungsoo's starting to annoy me. And I'm the writer. I made him the way he is. But I'm starting to hate his fanboying side. Maybe I'll tone it down a little. Because if the writer gets annoyed by the character's behavior, what about the readers, right?

SLAVERY! YES! I know it's a very cliche thing, but I just can't help it. I've always wanted to write a master-slave fic. I just didn't know until this Thursday that it would be in this fic. Yeah, ideas do come to my head very spontaneously. It shouldn't take too much of the plot, but it will hopefully be interesting enough. I'll try to make it original despite it's cliche-ness. I'll probably fail, but it won't hurt to try, right?

I just love to tease Sunggyu. Him liking Kyungran has nothing really to do with the plot, it's just there for the fun of teasing him. Poor Kyuzizi, he even said that he's scared of her...

Update #5: This update is up a little earlier than expected. That's because I'm just so happy and I couldn't wait any longer with the update xD Someone advertised the story for me today, and I'm really, really grateful for that! If you're reading, please let me know who you are! I really want to know! <3

I have to say, I love writing Mr. Perfect the most out of all my stories. Not because of the plot or anything, but because of how I chose to write it. If you read my other stories, I play around with perspectives a lot. I wrote my very first story, "Love at the First Sight" in 1st person POV, but that didn't suit me very much. Then, in "Spirit Unbound" and its sequel "Bound by Fate," I used a 3rd person POV that's slightly omniscent, but that doesn't really suit me very much either. In "My Tutor Is a Goddess" and "Schoolboy Crush," I use an alternating 3rd person POV that's sort of like a conversation between me and the character. That style works pretty well, but I think that I like writing 3rd person POV with the character's inner dialogue, the one I use for Mr. Perfect, the most. It's just so much fun to write short but impactful statements that tell you exactly how Myungsoo feels xD

As for the chapter itself, my goals were to: 1) show how Myungsoo feels about his other three main character classmates, 2) show how he sees Yeol's and Jong's actions, 3) show that Myungsoo's still somewhat socially awkward, even though he tries to sound like he's not, 4) show how Myungsoo indirectly makes Yeol and Jong mad, and 5) start a three-way war between them. I hope I succeeded at all of those points.

I always aim at 1500 words per chapter. Sometimes, I'm 100-200 words short, and sometimes, I'm over. Sometimes, I write like 2500 words, and when that happens, I split up the chapter into two. That was the case with this chapter - the last chapter and this chapter were originally one chapter, but it was too long, so I cut it off and added a couple scenes here and there. Of course, I could write longer updates, but personally, I hate super-long chapters. For me, the ideal length of a chapter is 1500-2000 words, because that takes about 10-15 minutes to read (including spazzing time). So if you feel the chapters are short, sorry, but it's just my personal preference :(

In the next chapter, I will introduce another "big" character. It's going to be a completely original character, and I hope you'll like it! I don't usually do OCs, but this one... well, it's going to be quite surprising xD I've been playing around with this idea for some time, but I didn't feel like it was a very good idea at first. But I changed my mind about it. The character won't be very impactful plot-wise, but I hope will bring a lot of laughter, even if forced!

Update #4: It's up a little later than I wanted. Mainly because of me being mad all day today. It's been a long day. Not only did I fail my advancement to Platinum 1 in LoL, but I read over 15 posts about EYK. People are getting worked up over nothing. Confirmed by Simon & Martina. Well, but still, if all fanfics get locked, then my story has a bigger chance of getting selected!

There's not much going on in this chapter, other than setting up the school for you. I only wanted to introduce a bunch of characters that are in the school (Jung Juri FTW!). There are more to come, but I'll keep them for the next update. I bet you all expected Myungsoo to end up in the same classroom as the Sung brothers!

I hope all my MTIaG readers got the reference xD I know it's totally random, but I love random references! They'll get more and more random from now on...

I really don't know what else to talk about for this chapter, since it's pretty straightforward. Oh, well, there's this one little foreshadowing in there, but who cares... Onto the next point, the title. Have you guys seen the video? I talked about it last time already, but some of you might have missed it... so here it is!

Amazing, isn't it? xD

Update #2: Chapter 3 is almost finished. Again, I had a blast writing this chapter, so hopefully, you guys will have a lot of fun reading it, too.

Update #3: Chapter 3 is up! I hope you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun to write, even though I stayed until 3AM to finish it. Again, I made a million of references in the story; here are some of them:

-Myungsoo's stage outfit recognition ability from his pre-debut days. Did you guys know that Myungsoo was able to identify SNSD's performance based only on Taeyeon's outfit? That's what we call a passionate fan.

-Death Note. Have you guys seen the anime? It's like the freaking best anime series I've watched in my life. The door thing was taken from it, and so was the "Imagay" - the main protagonist in the show is Light Yagami, and if you write his name backwards, it spells Im a gay, which I find really, really hilarious, since Light never shows any affection toward his women, but always seems a little too... attentive to L (the detective L after whom our L named himself).

-Queen of the Night - Sungjong's epic high note battle on Infinity Girls! Youtube it only if you're ready to accept the fact that Sungjong has a higher-pitched voice than you.

-Reply 1997 - a lot, actually. A-Pink's Eunji played Sung Shiwon in the drama, Seo Inguk played Yoonjae, and Hoya played Joonhee. They were the "real" love triangle of the show - only that Hoya's character wasn't interested in Eunji, but in Inguk instead. The whole conversation between Eunji and Myungsoo is full of references to different parts of the show. Even Eunji's shameless crying is a reference to the show.

-Reply 1994 - OOOPPPPFAAAAA!!! comes from Tiny-G's Dohee on that show. It sounds so funny when you hear it xD

-EXO's D.O.'s underwear stealing incident - if you know something about EXO sasaengs, there was a rumor floating at one point about some sasaeng fan breaking into EXO-K's dorm and stealing D.O.'s underwear, which she then tried to sell online for 10 thousand won, and supposedly it came with D.O.'s hairs in case you wanted to DNA-test it. Not sure about whether it was true, but if she was selling it for only 10 000 won (~$10), then I don't really believe it. I mean, come on, sasaengs are richer than that. Lately, there's been a rumor about EXO's frozen urine floating around as well. I guess I will never really understand sasaengs...

Feel free to dig for more references; they are definitely there! Anyway, back to the story itself; I hope you don't mind the story being a little too creepy fan-wise. I hope you understand that I'm not actually that kind of person--I just thought it would be funny to write about it. I never understood, and never will understand stans' and sasaengs' antiques. Like the whole "you can like only one group" thing--they'd probably hang me if I lived in Korea for being disloyal.

I'm trying to portray Myungsoo as a smart-but-rash person who is intelligent, but does rash things without really thinking about the consequences. I hope I delivered it. I've always felt that Myungsoo was a bit like that, but then again, I only get to watch him on TV. But isn't he adorable like that?

I'm really tired now, so I'll stop this here. If I remember anything else I wanted to talk about, I'll just add it later.

This is a masterpost for all my updates of Mr. Perfect. It's sort of like a notebook where I leave all my thoughts on my story for everyone who's interested in reading it. Instead of writing millions of paragraphs in my author's note at the end of each chapter, I'll just continually update this one post for people for who want to read all the extra stuff that didn't make it into the chapter and my thoughts on it.

Update #1: Nothing much about the chapter today. I should be able to meet the deadline I promised, since it's the only story I plan on writing on Friday. I have planned everything until chapter 6 so far, and have random ideas thrown around for other chapters. Overall, this is the story that is easiest to write for me at the moment (since it's the freshest idea I have).

LollipopFille #3
I think the main pairing is Myungsoo and Sungjong :DD because there is more tension between them than between Sungyeol and Myungsoo... plus you wouldn't have planned the talk with Hoya and the coincidental meeting with Sungjong... Am I right?? XD I can't wait to read more but I'll probably read the updates after next week because of all the exams :(
