Pinboo's Top10 Favorite SNSD Songs

While as a hardcore SONE I basically love 80% of SNSD songs, surely I'd have some favorites. I am no music critic but I will choose my personal Top 10 SNSD Favorite Songs -which is of course, a hard task for me who loves a majority of their songs. The list may change, but for now, these are my eargasmic causes:

10. Trick

Claimed by a lot of SONE as the Top 3 Best SNSD’s song, and I can totally see why they think that way. Though “Trick” ranks last in my Top10 SNSD Song List, of course, I still love this song to bits! This is my favorite song in the whole “The Boys” album, and when I heard this song for the first time, I was like I LOVE IT! I love the lyrics as well and the mischievous kind of song –yeah, pun the title.

9. You-a-Holic

It’s like… Trick’s mischievousness added with a bit of Bad Girl’s catchiness. A club-dance song that just makes me sing it for days and still can’t get enough of it. I absolutely love the live performance as well. Another plus point is that I absolutely love the lyrics (“Psycho, y, super magic!” and “You’re the gin inside my tonic”) –probably my favorite lyrics in all of SNSD’s songs.

8. Gee

I’d say this song is L.E.G.E.N.D. I am actually questioning whether I should rank this song higher in my list, but okay, 8 is not a bad number anyway. The totally iconic song that makes SNSD… well, SNSD. But it’s not only the popular appeal that makes me love the song. I don’t know, the song just sounds… honest, and cute too! And ever since its release in 2009 (well, I heard it the first time when I got to be a SONE in 2010), I’ve never gotten tired of hearing it! Like, this is the 1st SNSD song that I will sing at karaoke, this is the song whose lyrics I memorize the most, this is the song that I almost never skip when my playlist is played on random order. I just loooveeee this addictive, fun, cute song so damn much!

7. The Great Escape

Another y-badass soshi song, I like it a tad bit more than Trick because I think this is more powerful and more mysterious than Trick. Trick and The Great Escape both give me the ‘spy’ vibes: Trick is more on the planning/observing spy type, while The Great Escape is more on the action-spy type. Maybe unconsciously that was why I chose both The Great Escape and Trick as the song background for my DMC’s 1st and 2nd Trailer, hehe. But anyway, I am rambling, hehe. I also think The Great Escape has a very good build-up –like it has a strong intro, a strong chorus, two strong bridges (at least… I thought they were bridges) and it’s like a good –it’s like reading a very satisfying story, ^^.

6. Lingua Franca

Not exactly my favorite on the first listen, but on the third listen, I fall in such a deeeeeepp love with this song! It’s one of SNSD’s most beautiful song –to me, it even beats their ballads. The melody/song is just so rich and kind of musical-whimsical. It gives the dreamy sort of feeling and the whole MJ’s “Heal the World” feel –haha, that’s just me. But this song (and the lyrics) just signifies peace, optimism, and it’s just soooo beautiful I cannot, I really cannot. This is just so optimistically beautiful, serene and high-spirited at the same time and I just LOVE it!

5. Let it Rain

I am listing too much of their Japanese 1st album, but I have no regret. Let it Rain, despite everything, to me is one of Soshi’s most powerfully emotional song. I feel the strength of the ladies that SNSD members are through this song. It has such a gorgeous intro and while the chorus might sound a bit bland (the end part of the chorus –the “just let it rain, let it rain, rain…” part), but I don’t know, as a whole, the song just… shines to me. It’s like very eargasmic and despite the bland last part of chorus, I still feel this song is majestic.

4. Mr. Mr.

And ah, the latest addition that quickly sweeps its way to the top3! Not only that I think Mr. Mr. is one of SNSD’s best comeback (yes, I know what other people, SONE and non-SONE think, but I love Mr. Mr. to the tiniest detail), but it’s like a very good song that defines the new SNSD that I love so much. I think it’s catchy, it has that certain appeal to non-kpop ears, yet at the same time, still has the twist that reminds me of SNSD. Though the singing line distribution may not be the best, but admittedly, I love their vocals here. To me, this song is all classy, y, interesting, calming, catcy altogether and I seriously love it!

3. Galaxy Supernova

Who said SNSD is too old for catchy song? I beg to differ, I am so much in love with this addictive and y-fun Galaxy Supernova! I had bad impression on the title and the MV, but I love the song so much and I really am so proud of the girls! I thought Gee would be their last best catchy song, but Galaxy Supernova, personally could really keep up with Gee. I like Galaxy Supernova more than Gee (hard choice, ladies) maybe because it’s the mature kind of catchy, if that is even possible. It’s definitely something that I cannot get off my head for a long, long, long time. Tu-tu-tu-ru-tu-tu! Cutest girls in the galaxy!

2. Flower Power

I know a lot of people do not like this song, but on the first listen, I immediately fell in love with this song! This song surprises me from time to time. I know a lot of people say that this song is choppy (too many “different parts” or something) and even says that IGAB is like Korean’s Flower Power or Flower Power is Japanese IGAB (oh, and btw, though I am a hardcore SONE, I’d still say that until this point, I do not like IGAB). But though I don’t like the choppy parts in IGAB, I love the choppy parts in Flower Power so, so, so much! There are lots of different parts (like, there are 4 songs in Flower Power), but I think all parts mix sooo well, and listening to Flower Power is just sooo exciting and I can say I love ALL parts of the song!

and now...

1. Express 999

Probably pretty predictable –this is another SONE’s favorite as well. When I first listened the song, my jaw dropped because I know in seconds that I am so going to be obsessed with the song –and I was right! I can write all the things that I do to the other songs in No. 10 – 2 and triple them all. It’s a surprise to hear Express 999 in IGAB album, because I think this is more jpop-ish to me (and look at my list, I do adore their Japanese songs more). But anyway, Express 999 just tells a story or a journey to me –it’s like a movie. I love the chorus, and of course, that “ooo…” thingie at the end of the chorus –absolutely fantastic and I really love the girls who can sing such a nice melody in such a kick- way. It’s not as fierce as another song actually, but it just punches me right in the feel. I really, really love this song, and I’d give anything to have this turned into an MV. I am a bit disappointed with the dance, but still, the song itself consists of 100% pure awesomeness

Recently I've been obsessed with the girls' OSTs for dramas, they're just SO BEAUTIFUL!
I feel like SM should compile them or something, because there are some seriously powerful and amazing songs (especially Taeyeon's songs, but I also love Sunny's and Jessica's, too) even if it's not OT9, they're just so. Amazing.
There are quite a lot of compilations on YouTube, I've started listening to them as I study or read, they're really relaxing and releasing. Especially Taeyeon's, cause, well, who doesn't love her voice? XD

And as for Mr. Mr.- am I the only one that looooooooooves this song?! It's so amazing, well-produced, smooth, and a great concept (not over-the-top y like some recent girl group concepts, but rather a smooth confidence) and a great choreography!!! It's just so Soshi <3

(Sorry for the suuper long comment)

some title sounds unfamiliar for me. I'm a type of mellow-dramatic listener who enjoy ballad songs more. from snsd, I like forever, complete, how great is your love, promise... something like that :D

ahahhahaha kak we have almost same taste of music!
Though I'm not sure I can't decide which one is my number 1 among soshi's best songs but I really like your list! except express999 probably would be replaced by Goodbye, the latter is such a really nice song, I fell in love the moment Tiffany finished her first line, dayuumm.
and I can't agree more, their japanese albums are my fav jams *~* too bad they're really expensive, I would love to buy their physicals and jam to it in the car all day long lol
