Tattoos and Military Service

Quick question:

I was responding to a blog post and I read the following about military service in S. Korea on CBS News:

Koreans have a curse - "You should be tattooed!" - that reflects the ancient practice of using tattoos to brand thieves and slaves.

But a nationwide police search launched this month for men with tattoos has rounded up a new breed of criminals - young men who use the body art to try to evade the country's mandatory military service, crucial to its defense against communist North Korea.

About 170 men have been arrested for "willfully tampering with their bodies to avoid military duty" - a crime punishable by up to three years in prison. National media showed the disgraced young men, handcuffed, heads bowed and shirts removed to reveal large tattoos of dragons, scaled fish, birds and roses.

Although there is no law against tattoos, South Koreans consider them symbols of disgrace, often associated with gangsters. Likewise in Japan, tattoos carry a stigma for their association with the "yakuza" gangsters who cover their bodies with them.

South Korea's conscription law rules men with large tattoos unfit for the military because they cause "abomination among fellow soldiers."

That got me thinking, when enlistment time comes, will these tattoed K-pop idols seek exemption and if they do, will it ruin their career (draft dodging is considered an honor crime in S. Korea and record labels and tv networks will not allow you to work with them if you are believed to have avoided service on purpose)?

Taeil from Block B - You can see hints of a chest tattoo and there has been talk that he has a large back tattoo along with the other various smaller peices on his arms.

Zico from Block B - He has other pieces including a large side torso piece but this is his most prominent.

Bang Yong Guk of BAP - He actually comes from a family full of tattoo enthusiasts. Check out his sister here.

You should already know who this is but if you don't...it's JAY PARK...but I think he doesn't have to worry about enlistment because he has American citizenship which should be an exemption itself.

This is supposed to be CAP from Teen Top. Not sure where he is, but why he no have clothes on?

Delicious Taeyang from Big Bang - Seriously, I would trace his tattoos with my tongue if given the chance, but dreams are just that...dreams.

G Dragon from Big Bang - So many tattoos in so many places. You have to wonder where he has tattoos that we aren't seeing...

JoKwon from 2am - The tattoo says 'Born this Way" and he has another tattoo that says "Equality".  I have to wonder if he will be getting a different exemption from his service, if you know what I mean.

Jaejoong from JYJ - That TVXQ tattoo makes me sad because you can tell that the group meant a lot to him for it to be his most prominent tat, but when it was time to add memebr names, he only got Mickey and Junsu's names. I is sad now.

Eunhyuk from Super Junior - Guise, his tattoo says 'Eevrlastting Friend". Ya'll, that 's permenant.

Speaking of permenant..

I know Kangin has already done his time, but let's focus of the tattoo itself. "Actions are more Prection than words"...yeah, that's forever...

Shindong from Super Junior - I don't know about you, but I find this tattoo quite beautiful.

There are lots of others out there but I want to hear from you. What do you think about tattoos, kpop, enlistment and other related topics? Please comment!

Two years military service, or three years jail time, hmm?
Then again, it's not very smart of a government to have stupid laws.
They're losing out on literally good man power.
