My Life

History: Things have always been hard for the Han family. For the past three and a half years, there has been a major drought in their district and it has been affecting their crops. No water means no crops. No crops means no money. No money means no food. This year, the drought finally ended when it began to rain for a week straight. The Hans have been working extra time in order to make up for the last three and a half years, but they still don't have enough money to support all eight members of their family. One of the siblings got sick last year and still hasn't gotten any better since then.

Being the eldest sibling in the family, Jaemin took resposibility for taking care of the family. Her parents were busy enough as it was trying to work in the fields with just the two of them, so Jaemin helped out as much as she could. She made sure that her siblings had enough to eat by hunting for some food and cooking it since they had no money to buy meat from the market. She would help out in the fields and often get cuts on her body from the harvesting scythe, the sharp blades of grass, sharp edges on the machinery, etc. Every year, she puts lots of tessarae in order to help their family survive. But, even with the higher chance of being picked in the reaping, she so far has never been reaped.

Their neighbors, the Kwon Family, were the closest things that the Han Family had to friends. They would talk to each other once in awhile and help each other out a little bit. However, things changed when their eldest son, Kwon Sanghyuk, was reaped. He died during last year's Hunger Games and it devastated Jaemin and his little sister Jiyoung. He was someone that they both looked up to as a role model. He was the one who taught them how to hunt and survive in case they were ever picked for the next Games. Ever since his death, the two families don't talk as often.

Personality: Jaemin is very responsible for her age. Her parents were always busy in the fields trying to earn enough money to provide for their large family. So, she took on the responsibilities of a mother at home and took care of the kids until she was big enough to start helping out in the fields and work the machinery. Jaemin is pretty independent because of this and a reliable person. She works hard and does everything that she can in order to help out their family. Everyone in the family calls her 'Angel' because they feel like she is their guardian angel that was sent from the heavens above to watch over their family and protect them. Jaemin learned how to hunt from her neighbor and role model, Sanghyuk, during the drought because they didn't have money to buy meat from the market. She is a quick learner. Jaemin doesn't trust people very easily and would prefer to be alone (with the exception of her family) so she doesn't have many friends.

She is quite bitter towards the people from the government and the Capitol because of the Games. Jaemin finds it sickening that the people from the Capitol find entertainment by watching tons of people - mostly children - murder each other and die. She doesn't understand how the people from the Capitol can just lounge around all day and not worry about a thing, while everyone else in the other districts are suffering. She doesn't understand how anyone could ever find killing another person enjoyable. She doesn't have it in her heart to kill a person. The sight of blood makes her feel slightly uneasy. But, if there is absolutely no other choice, then she will. 

One thing that she is absolutely terrified of is dying during the games. It isn't that she is afraid of death, but the effect that it will have on her family. She witnessed how much the Kwon family changed when Sanghyuk died during last year's game. She doesn't want her family to have to go through the same thing that their family had went through. They already had enough troubles as it was. Plus, who would take care of them once she was gone? That is why she is extremely determined to survive and win this year's game. The way that she cares so much for her family shows how selfless she is towards herself, but also shows how stubborn she is because she never cares about her own well-being. (This could be a weakness during the game - the urge to help others instead of herself?)

Interview 

How do you act during the interview: Jaemin knows that the point of these interviews is so that the audience can see the different kids going into the games and then they will choose which one they like best and sponsor them. The more sponsors you have, the better chance of survival. During the interview, Jaemin plays the innocent angel type of character - trying to rack up some pity points with the audience so that they will sponsor her. She talks about her relationship with her neighbor Sanghuk (not directly saying if they were in a relationship or not) and how his death affected her in hopes that her small little "sob story" about a love that can no longer be will snatch up some sympathy votes.
