Learning Korean with K-Pop

This post is dedicated to my buddies who are learning Korean like moi ^^

I'm going through writer's block, so I thought I'd put together a list of the Kpop songs I've found easier to understand than others. These songs I cherish like the precious treasures they are. Why? Because I generally use them to refresh and reinforce structures and words I've learned in Korean. I will try to divide these songs in three levels of difficulty from easy to ty hard to understand.

I AM BY NO MEANS SAYING I HAVE FULLY UNDERSTOOD THESE SONGS RIGHT OFF THE BAT  FROM THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THEM. My Korean skills are far from perfect. They're the opposite. I . In fact, I at English, at Spanish, at posting blogs, at writing fics, at walking, at running, at studying, at breathing, at eating, at not eating, at swimming, at going to the beach, at handwriting, at singing, at dancing...the list goes on.

I'll try to provide you with links to the songs that have the Korean lyrics ONLY on screen. (You know how on most live or lip synched performances by K-artists they include the Korean lyrics at the left bottom part of the screen? I spazz about that. I can understand the songs so much better.)

"Easy" songs

First up is my Taeyeon is mine kid leader's Closer from the OST for To the Beautiful You. Ballads are generally easier to understand than faster-paced songs and who better so sing a slow song than Kim Taeyeon herself? I really like the lyrics for the song and I also have them on my phone in Korean and if you are studying Korean and already know Hangeul, you can do as I do and hone your reading skils while listening to this song as you read the lyrics.

SNSD's Gee- I was going to include this song in the medium part of this list...but Gee is way too easy to understand. At least for me O.O

Kevin Woo's My Reason- Another sappy slow song. This song, my feels, and my Korean learning...enough said.

Jessica Jung's That One Person- from Cyrano Dating Agency's OST. Most sones love this song because, come one, our Ice Princess sings it. I love it because I didn't need to look up a translation for its lyrics xD

B1A4's Sandeul's Crush- This song is beautifully sung and the lyrics are simple enough. I'm a Kpop 'idol' who's cruhing on you. Open your heart before I sing a sad song about it. Oh wait, I'm already doing that!

"Medium" songs

Kim Jong Kook ft. Gary and Haha- Words I Want to Say to You- This song is not the hardest song to understand for somebody who's been studying Korean for little over a year. Even the raps are fairly understandable. And I love the song, so haha :P

B1A4'S What's Happening- This song would be in the easy part of my list...but Baro and his rapping get in the way of that! (B1A4 is an amazing underrated group whose music is so totally awesome I listen to it all the time. tvxq fans are totally butthurt babies.)

SNSD's Genie- I love this song because even though it's faster paced, the lyrics are pretty easy to catch.

FT Island's Let her go- this song is heavier on grammar structures and it's rather poetic. I learned new words from this song as well. And it's a beautiful song too, so it's triple whammy ^^

CN Blue's Because I Miss you- Another song that's on the poetic side of life.

HARD songs

Urban Zakapa Inevitability- Amazing song...but for some reason, my mind wanders off to different places when I listen to this and I find it very hard to focus on most of what's being sung O.O

f(x)'s  Rum Pum Pum Pum- Seriously, what is it with f(x) and their songs??? I can almost NEVER figure out what they're saying. And their song lyrics usually include at least twenty words I'd never heard or seen before in the time I've been stuying Korean. I'm still struggling to figure out most of this song *dies*

Dynamic Duo's The Return of the Kings- I have these lyrics in my phone and I still don't understand most of this song O.O But their rapping skills are amazing, so I downloaded this whole record xD No regrets xD

Epik High's Run- This song has all three levels in it...O.O But Mithra and Tablo's  rapping skills ultimately rank this song up in my easy-to-hard list.

SNSD's I Got A Boy- I had to read this song's lyrics a few times to be able to fully grasp the meaning of the song.

So yeah...those were a few of my favorite songs I like to listen to and 1. feel happy that I know what they're singing, 2. torture my ears with.
