If you were to audition to become a Kpop trainee...

Which company would you audition for?

I'm trying to decide which company I should audition for.

I'm just kinda reconsidering stuff right now, since for the past 2 - 3 years I've been planning to audition for SM when I turn 18 (which will be this year) but... I've been thinking that maybe SM isn't the best company for me. Maybe I'd be better off auditioning for YG, since they mainly focus on musical talent first before looks whereas SM seems to be the opposite, looks before talent (not bashing anyone, obviously SM's artists are talented too) but yeah... or maybe JYP since my friend says they are more accepting of foreigners... but the main reason I wanted to audition for SM is because they train their artists/trainees really a lot and push them to the limit which is what I'd want to do anyway...

AHHH I don't know...

Can anyone give some insight to help me decide? Or tell me which company you'd prefer to audition for?

NH. Because Kiss for one, but for another, they don't have many artists (Ukiss and a soloist) And would probably kill for a chance at someone else to join their lovely family.

I love SM, JYP and YG, SM has some of the most successful groups as does YG and JYP.

I just know YG is kind, fun and excepting, he's even known as Papa YG and there's this thing he does at his company- something like giving you three strikes and your out or something like that. Yes YG is known for being the one who chooses talent over looks but at the same time you have to remember he told TOP he had to diet or he wouldn't be able to debut.

As for SM they tend to debut people and then slowly forget about them, aka not promote them correctly such as F(x) and Super Junior, heck SM has entertainers that some people don't even know about.

So I think you should audition for JYP, my reasoning is because JYP is the most versed out of the two in American/foreigner culture and he knows talent as soon as it walks in the room. He's not afraid to come up to his trainees / already debuted employee's and yell at them, he pushes you and encourages you at the same time. He's basically a harsh, cuddly teddy bear. In my opinion I think you should try out for JYP.

I honestly think SM has talent as well as looks but they work you extremely hard... I would audition for SM or CUBE since they are my favourite companies but it's all up to you <3

I agree with ALOT of these comments! Honestly just pick the one that suits you! I also plan on becoming a trainee but pls don't pick the wrong company! I can take loads of ! But honestly some companies will criticize on your race and might not pick you! Also it you want to survive, I suggest maybe you try out with another foreigner that also sings well/ dances well! Cuz then when all those other trainees go all ape you guys can tough it out together! ^^

Well, my first instinct is to tell you that becoming an idol is a trap, and that you should pursue music another way. But if you're really set on becoming a k-pop idol, here's a few things you should most definitely take into consideration.

Two main things about being a trainee are:
1. There is no guarantee that you will debut. Companies seeing everyone as expendable, and they and can drop you at any time for whatever reason. Even if you've been training their for like 6+ years, they can still drop you.
2. You're gonna be at a bigger disadvantage because you're a foreigner, and also because you haven't been training as long as some of the other trainees. There is a pretty big chance that you will be taken advantage of due to the language barrier and the fact that you're not used to the culture, etc. Also, like someone mentioned earlier, you're generally gonna get a lot of (especially from the other trainees) due to the sole fact that you're a foreigner.

A while back, I had made a post on my blog about a list of reasons why being an idol isn't exactly the best career choice. I highly recommend that you take a look at it, just so you could gain a bit more perspective.

As far as choosing a company, it doesn't necessarily have to be one of the big three. Do a lot of research and try to pick out a company that would suit you best. Basically, keep your options open, and don't set your heart too much one specific company. There's a reason why people go through so many auditions in order to become a trainee. Also, do keep in mind that a lot of companies are biased. Even if they do accept foreigners, most (if not all) foreigners tend to still be of some sort of Asian ethnicity. It's not that the companies are racist, but rather that it's because k-pop primarily targets the Asian market. You get what I'm saying?

Anyway, I wish you good luck on your auditions and hope for the best for you. c:

I'd LOVE to join SM, but as you can see their "foreigners" are still Asian.

It's like this: If you want to focus more on music or what YOU enjoy, join YG. You want to train for years to perfection? Join SM. I don't know much about JYP except Miss A, 2pm, 2am and I think they own Bang...bangtang...bangtan boys.

always choose the company who knows better to make money and to be successful, because their artists will do the same, a company who don't know how to be on top will never produce first class artists, so SMEnt is the best, a good business company with first class and well payed artists
