My Journey To Kpop
I can still remember the first time I heard about Kpop. It was the year 1999 when I accidentally came across a Korean song. It was H.O.T.'s Candy. I didn't know back then that it is going to be the start of my kpop journey.
Before discovering Kpop, I went through a lot of music genres. From rnb, soul, grunge, rock, alternative, girl groups, boybands and mainstream music, I liked them all. My world back then, only revolves around aaron carter, backstreet boys, a1, spice girls, atomic kitten, sugababes, b*witched, the cranberries, sixpence none the richer, boyz2men, TLC, the corrs, boyzone, oasis, coldplay, foo fighters, lighthouse family, savage garden and trademark. I haven't even heard about kpop then.
After hearing Candy, I didn't immediately became enamored with kpop. In fact, I didn't even give them any attention. It was in 2003 when I came across pre-debut pictures of DBSK/TVXQ. I fell in love with them especially with Jaejoong and Yunho. When they released their 1st single, Hug, I was completely swept away. From that moment on, I became a kpopper.
It was 2005 when I fell in love for the 2nd time with a kpop group. Super Junior, my 2nd love. When Super Juinior debuted, my first bias wasn't Heechul but Yesung. As time passed though, I became more and more enamored with Heechul because of his quirky personality and sharp tongue.
I wasn't that much active in kpop before but I would always check out updates regarding DBSK and Super Junior. That's how I love them. I keep listening to mainstream music and even found new favorites, Linkin' Park, Secondhand Serenade, Fall Out Boys, My Chemical Romance, Simple Plan, Five For Fighting, Owl City and Taylor Swift.
It was only in 2009 when DBSK split up and when Hangeng left Super Junior that made me become more active in kpop again. That year also brought out some of the awesome kpop groups that i still love until today. 2ne1, b2st, and MBLAQ. It was also the year that I BigBang became my 3rd love.
14 years have passed since I heard my first Kpop song. 14 years and now, Kpop became my world.
