[INFO] Mini-FAQ Concerning the New Layout
Hello all!
We understand that many users are experiencing difficulties with the new layout change made earlier this weekend. Rest assured, there are always little kinks when change happens, and know that we, along with the site administrator, are actively working to make improvements on things! However, the same questions keep popping up time and again, some easy to answer and others more elaborate. We recommend you regularly check this blog until you are familiar and comfortable with the layout.
Why was the layout changed?
Due to bandwidth issues on the server, the site administrator decided to make some changes to the site's layout. We're a popular site in the Asian fanfiction community and as a result, many users (registered and guests alike) visit the site on a daily basis; in a fellow Helper's words, "what this means is that we're sending over so many pages that we're going over what we're allowed to go over." Graphics all over the site were trimmed down in response to this issue. The mobile version of the site is also more compatible with the new layout.
Can the old layout be recovered? Can you switch it back?
Due to this issue, this is unfortunately not an option at the moment. We apologize for any personal inconveniences the new layout may be causing; if you run into any issues, let us know and we'll do our best to help you out.
Where is [site feature button] located?
Button placement for features changed with the latest layout change, and you're welcome to ask us how to find certain features. For those most asked about:
- Log Out: located under the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of the site page; it is the last option listed
- Stories/Subscriptions/Bookmarks: click on your username at the top right of the screen, hover over the Stories tab, and these options will be located in the drop down menu
- Update Profile/Preferences: located under the Profile tab when you click on your username
Some site features are not showing up! There's a redirect error; how do I fix it?
Clear your brower's cookies and cache. Depending on what version of the browser you currently run, the process of doing this will differ. If you don't know how to clear the former items, here are the most up-to-date ways to do so:
- Google Chrome 31.0: Click on the three horizontal lines at the top right of the browser (NOT the button on the site), go to History, click on Clear Browsing Data, and check the boxes for "Delete cookies..." and "Empty the cache" then click Clear browsing data.
- Firefox 26.0: click on the Firefox button at the top left of the browser, hover over the History button, and click on Clear Recent History. Check the boxes for Cache and Cookies, then click Clear Now.
- Internet Explorer 9 & 10: Click the gears icon at the top right of the screen, go to Safety, and click Delete Browsing History. Check the boxes for Temporary Internet Files and Cookies then click Delete.
(if your browser is not listed here, we recommend you search for the process on Google)
Once you have cleared the cache and your cookies, the site should be up and running as normal.
How do you log into the mobile version?
First things first: you may have to clear your phone browser's cookies and cache, as well. As there are dozens of models of mobile phones and tablet devices, we cannot give specific processes, so if you don't know how to clear browsing data, you may have to Google that. Once that is done, log onto the site and click the mobile phone icon on the top right of your screen.
Why isn't the mobile version showing up?
If the little phone icon is yellow, that means the mobile version is !
I'm using Opera Mini and the site looks wrong. Help!
For whatever reason, difficulties have arisen with those using Opera Mini; no matter how many times they clear the browser's cache and cookies, the errors stay. Our suggestion is to switch to a new browser while we try to figure out what's going on with that particular one.
As always, we welcome all user feedback; it allows us to better improve your site experience and fix any possible bugs or glitches with the site and the layout. And thanks for all the patience with the new layout; with changes come errors, kinks, and problems, and we're working hard to get things fixed and running smoothly. If you have any questions that you feel were not answered on this blog post, leave a comment and we'll respond as timely as we can. Thank you!
