Escape Characters Analysis.

Okay, first of all I’m so sorry for taking all this time but my internet connection was cut off and I was basically left out with only my mobile service and this isn't quite something i can post there and I feel horrible because it looks like I was delaying this but I wasn’t and I’m  really sorry, KrystalHana. Secondly for the ones that are reading this, what’s ahead is a badly written analysis about the characters of the awesome f(exo) fanfic Escape (if you don’t know it, go read it, you won’t regret it) because our lovely author KrystalHana feels like she’s not good in characterization which is silly because as I said before your writing is great, clear and awesome and this whole thing won't ever do justice of it okay? But let’s get into business and talk about those lovely characters with many of my typical typos.

  Oh Sehun

Ladies and Gentlemen, the protagonist of the story. Even though some other characters share the same importance as he, Sehun is the one we accompany as we read; therefore he’s the one who has his personality developed the most. Firstly we see that Sehun is a sweet and gentle boy who’s guiding and helping Sulli to survive in the evil place they’re staying, but despite his friendly behavior it gets evident how he’s aware of the current situation they are by the way Sehun avoids trouble just as much as possible: He runs away from each and single one of the guards, he suspects Chanyeol and Luna when the two use their powers so freely, he stops Jongin before a fight between him and the newcomer Soojung happens and he never rebels against the experiments they make on him. This awareness and even passiveness is what I relate the most with him, because if I was his shoes I would definitely act the same way. But thanks to his growing feelings for Sulli, Sehun shows that he is not that calm when it comes to the ones he cherish, getting to the point of even punching Luhan in the middle of his face just to defend her. Without mentioning his jealousy over Chanlli bonding and the complicated friendship or more properly the complicated acquaintance he has with Jongin. In resume Sehun is a nice, gentle, calm and even cheery boy who stays in that very way as long as you don’t mess with the ones he cares about.

     Sulli/Choi Jinri

Sehun’s new roommate. Sulli appears to share some of his same personality traits, being a friendly and sweet girl on the inside, but she’s too traumatized by her past actions to be just as outspoken as Sehun. We don’t get the chance to see clearly what did Sulli do previously, but we do know it was something big and bad, something capable of vanishing a whole city off the map, but apparently it was something that she couldn’t really control (hence how she keeps repeating that it wasn’t her fault when flashbacks happen) and Sulli deeply regrets it. That’s probably why her ability is “blocked up” she is too afraid to use it so she basically forgot about how to use it, even with the drugs the scientist force into her.

Other than that, Sulli is pretty much a mystery, she never talks about herself and in the rare moments she does, it’s always self-harmful (not sure if this is the right term) talk like claiming to be useless and evil. Her low self-esteem is probably her biggest characteristic, despite being pretty, nice and strong Sulli sees herself as monster deserving of the punishment she’s getting.

And as for who owns her heart, there is little to none clue, she sure harbors some feelings for Sehun being him the first and the closest friend she has there (and probably the only one she had in a while) but at the same time Sulli accepts and returns Chanyeol’s semi-flirty and semi-friendly attempts. The question if she is just being friendly or if she has something for him stays. And everyone is pretty much doomed to ship Sesul and Chanlli at the same time here.

    Kim Jongin

An old patient of the facility and sort of an acquaintance to Sehun. Along with Sulli, Jongin is probably the one with the most troubled past. Born in a poor family, Jongin was left by his father still a child with his mom, and trust me, that’s some serious issues, most of authors could have put Jongin as a troublemaker thanks to that but gladly KrystalHana took a more original path making him promise his mother to be a good boy, getting good grades, working on multiple jobs and just being the perfect son every mother would ask for. And what does a perfect son doesn’t need? Trouble coming in the form of the ability to teleport. Jongin has made the low profile quite nicely until his classmate literally floated into his life and now the poor boy is stuck up in that horrid facility.

His first appearance is when he gets a new roommate called Jung Soojung, who’s apparently the antithesis of him, acting like a rich and spoiled brat, thanks to the temper Jongin has it doesn’t take long until they clash but Sehun and Sulli come out before things get out of control. And this part shows a very important aspect of Jongin because everyone would normally assume that he has some kind of grudge hold against Sehun but he seems to either have gotten over it or to never had it and basically shows that despite his snarky attitude Jongin is so good at heart that he easily forgives people, or perhaps the author is planning to use this later, who knows?

Another important and original aspect of his persona is how Jongin is claustrophobic. Yes. He. A teleporter. Claustrophobic. I beg your pardon but I just thought that little detail of him was a genius move, especially with the way KrystalHana used it to make him bond with Soojung and marking the first steps of Kaistal in the story.

Jung Soojung

Jongin’s new roommate. Jung Soojung appears to be a stuck-up spoiled brat that always got what she wanted in a blink of an eye, but never trust first impressions because they tend to be at the best only half of the truth. Soojung is indeed a bit spoiled (she had let clear that she was heir of someone powerful many times and before the reality check Jongin and Sehun gave her, she assumed that someone would get her out of there because of that) and she is used to have things quickly and easily not only thanks to her money and influence but also to her (amazing I might add) power of mind manipulation. But Soojung is way much more than that, she is smart and cautious, taking Sehun’s advice right away and avoiding to use her powers and to enrage Jongin though her stubbornness didn’t let her take Jongin antics without an appropriate answer which lead them into infinite bickering.  Well, that until they’re locked up in that closet and both of them are forced to settle down their fights in order to get out and that’s when we see how much of a nice girl Soojung can be, I can’t wait to see how will she act in the next chapters with Jongin’s change of behavior and with the possibility of escaping right around the corner.

Park Chanyeol and Park Sunyoung/Luna

Due the lack of scenes we don’t see too much of Chanyeol’s and Luna’s true personalities. They are cousins, but seem to be as close as siblings; extremely outgoing and cheery they raise the suspicion of Sehun, who soon finds out what are their true intentions. Chanyeol and Luna are helping Luhan to form and train a strong team to leave the facility and had their eyes set in the newcomers and their respective roommates.

Luna is calmer and more mature than her cousin, she is also more conscious of her power and try to use it less though sometimes she either accidently use it (the cafeteria incident) or simply don’t use it (the advanced hearing failure). Luna is also more sensitive; being extremely affected by her mistakes or thirds’ critics but other than that she is her usual friendly, cheery and talkative girl. In the latest chapter we were also able to notice that maybe just maybe she has some deeper feelings stored for her cousin or maybe she just miss her talking buddy…

Chanyeol is a big ball of energy, always talking and using his power more than any other character, yet he shows his seriousness when it is really needed. Despite being submissive to Luhan’s orders, Chanyeol is not afraid of going against his own leader, but he truly respects Luhan and his choices. Another thing that we have to mention about Chanyeol is his recent approach on Sulli; he’s not only befriending her but he has stated that he will try to start something else with her much to Sehun’s distaste.

   Luhan

The mysterious guy that has (sort of) a plan to escape the terrible place they’re locked in. To get to his objective Luhan can be cruel, ruthless and even rude to the ones around him, but just like Chanyeol told Sehun, he’s not a bad person; he’s just desperate to leave that hell of a place.

Acting calm and collected even when provoked, Luhan doesn’t have any problems in telling the truth in people’s faces or to point out their flaws and mistakes, he strives for perfection in the way his plan is maneuvered and he wants the same behavior from everyone else involved with it.

But with the time and the interactions he has with Sehun we see that he is not only really smart but actually a real nice person who has been scarred for whatever happened before or meanwhile he was in the facility.

What made him so desperate and meticulous about escaping; what went wrong in the first try of escaping and what happened to his roommate Xiumin is still a mystery to the readers, but hopefully we’ll know that in the next chapters.

First of all, let me tell you that this doesn't make any justice to your characters and this was basely my silly point of view, there are a lot of things i didn't mentioned purely because i don't really know how to write good analysis ;; I just hope this has lived up to your expectations and that it somehow has motivated you to keep writing this absolutely amazing story <3 Lastly i hope you liked the edit i made lol i thought that i should put a special surprise thanks to the awfully long time it took, hope you enjoyed anyway :)

Luna is indeed sensible ( though I think sensitive is the word you’re going for?) she’s easily excited which also means she’s easily upset too. I was actually worried that I made sulli sound like this helpless girl who whines and is there only to look pretty and everything (because I certainly DID NOT intend to make her like that) but seeing that you think of her that way eases my mind a lot :)
also I never even thought of making jongin a troublemaker. I mean it never crossed my mind lmao (am I oblivious to clichés too?? Orz) [here’s a spoiler for the next chapter; jongin and soojung are now comfortable enough to annoy the hell out of each other ;)]
and the edit is so simple and nice! It really touched me that you’d even do an edit for this fic ;~; would it be ok if I link this wonderful post in the next chapter? ^^ since I’m so grateful for this tremendous thing you did, would you like it if I show you first one of the bonus chapters I intend to write? I will post it after the whole thing is finished but you’ll get the first look! If you’d want it, just tell me if you want to read the kaistal spin off-ish maybe drabble maybe oneshot or Luhan’s whole bg story before he met chanyeol and luna?

p/s: i woulda post this all at once but aff comment box won't allow more than 2000 characters T.T

sorry for the late reply! my classes ended so late and 3+ hours of organic chemistry does not help anyone T.T

OMG I can’t even begin to tell you how perfect this is! This helps me a lot more than I thought it would and I’m not lying when I say that 99.9% of this is correct (the 0.01% being Chanyeol is actually a year older than Luna but that’s really pretty much negligible because luna is so matured compared to him ppl would think she was the older one^^) and I realize something about my characters too. I was afraid my characters lacked the development they deserve or that I failed to show how all this changes and the plan to escape affects them. Despite being the one who writes about them, I’m practically blind to their characteristics as a whole OTL (or perhaps I never really focused on a person’s personality when I read stuff. It’s always more to the storyline yeah I think that could be the problem with me OTL)
