Holiday Crazies

My Holiday so far has been nothing but insane.  I thought is was going to be as easy as catching my taxi, going to the airport and flying down south.  I was wrong!  And I will tell you about this crazy start to my holiday vacation for Christmas.

December 23rd, 2013

To start everything off I wake up at 4 in the morning to shower and finish packing before leaving for the airport at 5:15 when the taxi was to pick us up.  So I get ready and have all my stuff together and I am waiting with my Dad for the taxi to arrive.  5:15 came around and still no Taxi; 5:20 not taxi.  Finally at 5:28 the taxi arrives and we leave for the airport = although slightly late and we have to rush.

We got onto the plane in time and sat there.  And sat there, and sat there.  I was getting tired of sitting.  The plane was having issues.  TV screens had to be restarted and we came to learn that the planes computer system had frozen!  FROZEN!!!  How the heck does a computer freeze in -26 weather while running freeze!  It flies in the air at temperatures lower than -30 so why did it freeze in our weather?  Like really!  Anyway, they had to bring an exterior heater our to thaw the dang thing!  An hour and a half later they finally fixed the thing and we were off.

Mind you I only had two hours in Toronto to catch my next flight after clearing customs, which does take time I might add.

We landed in Toronto and got off the plane rushing to get to customs to clear it and get through security again before booking it to our gate.

To my relief the flight out of Toronto was delayed so we had time to spare to grab a little lunch before waiting to board the plane.

Luck was on our side; when we got to the front desk they stopped us and printed new tickets for my Dad and I.  First Class tickets, and I have to say it is very nice, very nice indeed.

First Class only lasted 20 minutes though.  I had twenty minutes of luxury before the flight attendants announced that our flight was now canceled and we had to get off the plane.  But it’s not that simple, we have to go through Canadian Customs after just going through US Customs forty minutes prior.

So we got off the plane, went through customs and are now in the Toronto Airport with no way to get to our next destination.  So we go and rebook, but it isn’t as simple as just going to a desk and rebooking.  No, that’s too easy.  We ask someone and they send us to one place, it was the wrong place.  We were directed to another place – still the wrong place.  After the third attempt we learned that we had to use one of these eight phones to call someone who would help us rebook before we could do anything else.

Now rebooked our journey is three times as long as it should be.

Stranded in Toronto for the night we make our way to family that live close by to stay with them for the night.  It was great being able to see my family since I rarely get to see them because they live so far away from us.

Christmas Eve and still not where we need to be.  I got up, showered, packed and we were off back to Toronto for a 3:15 flight.  After arriving at the airport and clearing US Customs – AGAIN! – we got to our gate at 1:30 to wait for our flight.  Flight went alright, small delay but nothing to bad.

We are currently in New York for Christmas Eve and we fly out at 10 Christmas Day.  Merry Christmas to me!

This trip has been nothing but crazy, but I can’t say I don’t like it.  I got to see family, hang out with my Dad and just laze around a few cities and just relax.  I do wish I could have been down with my grandparents but that is to come tomorrow.

December 25th, 2013

If everything goes right tomorrow I will be leaving New York for Savannah, Georgia and be off to Bluffton, South Carolina.  Cross my fingers that we aren’t further delayed.

I want to wish every one Happy Holidays and hope yours are fun and filled with entertainment – kinda like mine, but less crazy.

Enjoy the Holiday Season everyone!
