MV Reviews // Hyorin: Lonely

SISTAR's Hyorin's solo comeback was quite an issue. There were sayings as "she gets enough spotlight as the main vocalist of SISTAR", 'she's always in the middle why she's doing things like this and not Bora", etc... But face the fact - it was all in vain. She HAS the right to do this - she's an amazing singer with an amazing personality in my opinion. In this video she did everything as usual: she came as herself with ith her great vocal and you know what? I don't mind it at all.

MUSIC: A lot of people compeared it to one of Brown Eyed Girls's songs, for me some parts of the song sound similar to some parts of Juniel's Bad Man Let's admit it, there's a lot of song which has this feel. This calm yet upsetting feel when you think that "yeah, it's a cool groovy song" and in the next moment you go like "AWWW~ *sobsobsob*". These das these kind of songs are trend. BUT it doesn't mean that it's fully the same. I haven't looked for the lyrics yet *pleading for forgiveness with puppy eyes* but I know for sure that the meaning of the song is unique. You know, even if some songs are similar, there's always something which is different. And I'm not talking about the person of the singer... More about Hyorin's voice!

She's known as a powerful singer with wide vocal range (her speaking voice is husky and she's like this at the lower notes too but when she goes high, it's incredibly thin and fragile) so everybody was expecting something strong from her. And what did she do? She came back with a groovy song which she sings comfortably and resteained in. Surpriiii~se! I've read a lot of complaints about it but for me it works. It shows a different side of her, the power of her how she can be still amazing even when she's not singing her loungs out. (Sometimes I'm seriously worried about her loungs. FACT!)

The minimalist use of instruments is accompanying her voice well and all in all, I'm satishfied... Why don't I give maximum? Because I'm waiting for her other songs. LOL I have a lot expectation for One Way Love (that's the title, right? LOL again...)

9/10

VIDEO: Even if music and video form the whole for a music video, I think it's right to discuss them separately... Well, there aren't many happennings in this video. She's in London (it was hard for me to recognize it too), lives her life LONELY (what a joke), sometimes smiles, sometimes cries but most of the times she's just walking around and for more fooling around... BRILLIANT! Oh, you thought I'm being negative? NOPE. It's artsy just like more and more videos nowadays which for me is a good news because I don't really like no story-videos (but there're always exceptions) and started to get bored with dancing-around-videos (BUT THERE'RE ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS). There's a lot of untapped potential this way of directing - it's exciting, interesting and shows how can different pictures tell more than words... Yeah, I'm fan of creative solutions.

When I watched this video, I had that GD/Crooked-kinda feel. It seemed to be a happy song with lot of partying but at the end he cried in the restroom like a five-year-old-child and we BOOM got lost in emotions. It happened with me this time again - Hyorin was smiling like it had been her happy alone trip when she can do anything she wants and she enjoyed it but at the end she faced the hardships of being lonely and realized that it's not as easy as it looks.

Although I'm head-over-heels with this MV there's something I didn't like - clothes. I'm not being a fashionista but sometimes her clothes were totally out of the picture, showed too much. You can call me frigid but this fact disturbed me a bit even if she shows her good body in every SISTAR videos... It was a different song. It should have been different with appearence too. (Please don't even mention her hair color! Maybe I'm the only one who's blind but if it supposed to be orange/red/brown, it failed.) Because at the end I started to see Hyuna from her latest song and it creeped me out! (People should understand that there is a difference between being ty and being y... And now I'm not talking bad about Hyuna! It's an image for her, she's not a and none of other girl group members are. I just hate the fact that some people because of this way of dressing believes that they do.)

All in all:
7/10
