A Character Review of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

THIS IS MORE OF A CHARACTER REVIEW NOT A BOOK REVIEW. HAHA

So I already finished reading Fangirl, a book written by Rainbow Rowell and published last September 2013. I did not intend to read it. I was actually looking for Lauren Conrad’s Style then I saw Fangirl on one site. But I don’t regret downloading it. I enjoyed the book a lot.

What really caught my attention was the title, Fangirl. I am a fangirl, and like Cather or Cath, I like writing my own stories. But I’m not like Cath, I’m not as successful as she is with her own fanfic Carry On, Simon. She has thousands of readers and she’s been writing Carry On for almost two years. She updates regularly though she’s busy with school (college), and she’s busy worrying about her dad. Cath’s actually in a scholarship program. Yes, she’s smart but she doesn’t have much friends like twin sister does.

I’ve always wanted to have a twin sister but Wren made me think otherwise. Wren is like a rebel, she smokes, drinks alcohol and I think she uses drugs. She’s such a party animal. She even got herself poisoned. Well, I really think these actions were just brought up by peer-pressure or idk. She has this friend-slash-roommate named Courtney, and to be honest, I don’t like her presence in this story. But hey, Wren found herself a boyfriend, his name is Alejandro or Jandro for short. I think they met at a frat party. And I think he changed Wren. After the incident where in Wren poisoned herself (and I really love that, because Levi, all the way from Arnold, came to the hospital for Cather and omg he was with Jandro demm I wish I could have a boyfriend like Levi demm), Wren said that Jandro doesn’t like it when she gets drunk. So yeah, after that incident I’ve never heard Wren go to another frat party and get herself drunk. Wren and Courtney remained friends but Wren gets irritated now whenever Courtney is around. When they got to college, Cather and Wren almost spiltted up. It’s like they don’t know each other anymore but after the incident, they made up and they even spend their time together at Cather and Reagean’s dorm room or at Wren and Courtney’s room. They even go to double dates, you know Cather & Levi and Wren & Jandro. Ughh feels.

Hmm. Their dad, Art, I think he’s a great dad. He tried to make a living though his wife left them. He often get stressed and often ends up at a hospital for crazy people. And their mom, Laura, she’s just another character I hate and I wish Rainbow Rowell didn’t include them though I think the story wouldn’t be as good if they are not in the story. Laura is the worst mother. She left them when they were eight and came back ten years later. She has another family and I can’t see her care for her twins. After Wren’s incident, I’ve never seen her again. Demm, thank God she is just a fictional character or else I’ll haunt her down.

Abel, hmm he’s the boyfriend-not-really-a-boyfriend of Cather. At first, I thought that he’d show up in some chapters but he didn’t.

Jandro, I don’t know much about him except for the fact that he’s rich & smart, he’s a friend of Levi and he’s the boyfriend of Courtney. I find him scary and don’t ask me why because I don’t know the answer to that.

Ohh I almost forgot Nick. Nick is a douche. K. End. Bye.

So let’s go to my favorite characters.

Reagean, she’s the type of girl I like to be friends with. She has this cool and scary aura but I don’t like the fact that she has 5 boyfriends at a time and she smokes and drinks alcohol. but naah their in college and she’s not a freshman like Cather, I guess she could control herself not like Wren who poisoned herself, demm that girl. If I would be given a chance to be Reagean, I would not break up with Levi because he’s hot and he’s so nice, he’s a farmguy or ranchguy rather and he’s nice and hot and nice.

Levi, he just changed my ideal type. Back then I wanted to marry a guy who likes music, someone who would understand me but after reading Fangirl, I want to marry someone like Levi. Levi is 21 yrs. old., an Ag student, he works at Starbuck’s and he’s not a book and internet person. He loves the outdoors and he likes to make everyone happy. Omo~ such a sweetie. I love his presence in the story. I love how he did everything for Cather. But he drinks, smokes and kisses random girls. And his best line in the story is “So … aahggch.”

And last but not the least, the protagonist or the story, Cather ‘Cath’ Avery.
I like her so much. She reminds me of myself. I love how she’s so dedicated in writing her Simon Snow fic. And she really loves Wren and her dad. For me she’s kind of weird in some points like how she kissed Levi. I kind of laughed in that part.

Read the book if you want to know more about them. =)
