Background: She was born and raised in New York, New York. Her family consists of her parents (Dad: the president of the company, Mom: a retired model who is currently a designer) and her amazing older brother who is currently 23 years old. She is supposed to be the heiress (along with her brother) to her father’s company, but she absolutely refuses to so. When in the U.S., she had to follow her father’s and her mother’s wishes along with being a student, so she was always bouncing back and forth between school, modeling, and getting her tired to formal dinners and charity events. She never had enough time for school (working hard to be the all-A-student she is, is already enough) so she never able to make any really good friends. She was modeling in countless magazines and she did a few shows. Also, she did (and still does) a bit of acting. Her brother had to move to Korea to learn how to manage the company’s Korean branch, so wanting a bit of freedom HyoRim decided to go with him. She was picked up by SM when she participated in a dance competition near DongDaeMoon. She was a trainee for just 1 year and even then she was working as a model and helping her brother at formal company events.

Personality: She acts very happy and bright and most of the time she seems to be laughing and chattering non-stop, but in truth she often feels very lonely, hurt, not wanted and just sad. She has experienced a lot and she has a lot of feelings (like a lot of up and downs) so by writing lyrics for the group, she expresses what is feeling at the time. Because she has not been able to interact with many people her age, she is really pure when it comes to things that most girls her age would know. But that doesn’t mean that she is dumb or anything, it just means she a bit slow on celebrities, TV shows, boys and so on. Despite her being pure and a little goody two shoes, when it comes to people badmouthing her or her members she gets really fierce, like, you don’t want to get on her bad side. Because once you’re there, it’s really hard to get out. She tries to hide the fact that she is an heiress from everyone (except the manager and Lee SooMan seonsaengnim), because she doesn’t want any gold-diggers as friends.
