Nothing

Alright. First post ever on AFF, and it is non Asian related. I recently had a dream and wrote it down. Here it is. I hope you enjoy it. Please comment. Thanks!

The professor stands next to me, stale sweat entering my nostrils everytime he shifts. I wrinkle my nose internally, but refuse to drop my mask of interest. He is speaking to me, something about having buried the latest number of patients who unfortunately didn't manage to survive his experiment. I nod vaguely, my eyes travelling around the room. It is large, airy and its glass walls and ceiling create the illusion of a seperate, protective barrier, but I know that it can barely hold back nature.

She knocks on all the walls except one. The area to my right, beyond the wall, is a rolling hill, with a sinister looking sign at the top, stating that the nearest town is 57 miles away.

I'm distracted by his hand, large and white, spindly fingers grasping a matchstick. I hold my breath as he inches closer, eyes burning brightly behind his rather large spectacles that sit awkwardly on his broken nose. He's chattering away, all the while coming closer, closer and-His eyes drift behind me and I see a sudden change within them.

The matchstick splinters in his hand. He moves away, fast, almost tripping over himself. I turn, puzzled. A strange sight unfolds before me. A grave recently dug to house the latest patients has been dug up. Well, not up. It seems as though the earth had been downwards, leaving a perfect circle. My eyes widen and a scream is caught in my throat.

A head has popped out. Dark hair, a well defined jaw. He pulls himself upwards, before walking up, out of the grave. Another head follows soon after. A female this time. She too walks up from the grave, as if climbing an invisible set of stairs. More bodies follow. Soon they have all exited, at least 13 of them, all pale, despite their skin color.

The first man speaks up, looking directly into my eyes. " We went down there. There was nothing" And with those words he turns around, leading back into the grave. He gives me one last, longing gaze, before disappearing into the earth. The perfect circle disappears, the earth spat out to recreate their last resting place.
