Upon Reaching November (a poem)

There's something magical about this snow
That glitters and sparkles
As if diamonds are hidden inside,
Blankets the earth before it dies
So diamonds become emeralds.
Numbed by their beauty, I try to pick them up
But these sugar-coated emeralds
Dissolve under my touch,
Feather-light, broken,
Silent as the night they were made in.
