Work Experience

Work Experience

My work experience is utterly crap and boring. I said is instead of was because I am still doing it and tomorrow is my last day. I can officially say that vascular unit is not the right type of department or unit that I am interested at - I am lucky to have a placement in one of the famous hospital in my area but I was not lucky about the part of being out in the department because there wasn't any space left in my interest which is the paediatric ward - Yes, I am planning to be a doctor but a baby doctor.

On Monday:

I was very excited and nervous because I don't know what I am going to do and I anticipate and expected to be interest even though I wasn't really in interest in the vascular which is about veins and veins and I just don't click together. Jiyeon and I arrived at the bus stop and walked for a few seconds until we were at the entrance, we asked the receptionist where was the ward for vascular unit because we needed to report to the consultant who is "going to be take care of us" but to only have him in a different hospital and we were placed in the doctor's room for two hours, talking with a person called Maaz and he was really good guy and I feel more comfortable with him other than the other people. After Maaz, we were put under the care of a girl named Ann who is quite on the tall side but puts a little bit of too much make-up and we went to theatre and I thought theatre was a type of room where you would watch in a screen about someone being operated but to our hopes, we changed into operation clothes and went to a room and saw two doctors who was literally asking us to come closer but not too close to the patient's leg and had us look at the fat, veins and such.

We stood in the operation room and watch/observe what they do. Then a doctor who looked similar to Jiyeon's computing teacher told us to change and showed us the cafeteria to which we were glad since we were hungry. After our lunch, hot meal, we were given to the vascular clinic where we see out patient's problems about their legs which were caused by smoking.

On Tuesday and Wednesday:

To be honest with you, this two days are really boring since we just went to the vascular clinic and see out patient's in the morning and then in the afternoon, we observe junior doctors who did nothing but paperwork instead a guy named Ross - He showed us how they find the pulse to take a blood sample and that was the only interesting at this two days that happened.

On Thursday:

Which is today, Jiyeon and I were left fuming and annoyed towards the consultant because he told us you are never going to be accepted in the medical school with the display of your knowledge your showing which is something really rude because he asked medical terms definition and we were confused because we hadn't learned or even heard about it because all we learned in science were about plants such as photosynthesis and nitrogen cycle. It is also the start of the year which makes us even more impossible to learn hard stuff because we are just getting used to high school life again with the new 1st years. He expected us to know medical terms and their definition to which we hadn't really anymore - it's like saying to the blind, you are never going to see again, to see life in colours again or to the deaf, you aren't going to hear anymore, to hear the noise. It was like making us crash our dreams down of becoming a nurse or doctor.

The way he spoke to us was nice and straightforward but we are just high school students, we hadn't even sat on our first exams or even have our results yet and he says that we are never going to be accepted in medical school - way to crash our dreams down, old man. It saddens me that he is already expecting us to know everything he says to us and I agree with about the part that we don't ask questions because it's either you don't know the definition or you are not interest at it and hell yeah! We are not ing interested about the freaking veins, we are forcing ourselves to become interested at it because there isn't space for the ward we wanted to come and you guys, are just trying to become demanding towards us. Education had changed. The time you were in the high school at the same age with us is different now. We are living in the new generation.

You should at least be happy that we are being still being polite and we are still wanting to come back to spend our day in the work experience, being bored and watch or observe. It is really disappointing that you expects us the things you asked us, makes us sit and watch the junior doctors who don't even try to make our stay interesting since they are boarded with paper works and with the computer, typing. It just saddens me that you are aware of our prescense but it doesn't seem like you are wanting to help us with the work experience as the nurses, one of the head nurse? She didn't even want us to follow the nurses and gave us to the domestic cleaners who are absolutely so much better than the lots of them.

I suggest that you don't go to a hospital and be set in an unit you don't have any interest at because you will become utterly bored and especially if you are alone, you just sat most of the time and stay quiet because you might become a nuisance and when you were with the doctors, they will probably look down at you because you don't know medical terms.
