A typical horror story, of course, is about ghosts, haunted things and stuff. A very common one is the main character is haunted, sees spirits or actually is a ghost-buster. Maybe a more unique one is the main character being a ghost himself/herself, and he/she is the one causing the horror factors of the story. You can use other creatures for these kind of plots as well.
