Choi Ju Hee/38/mother/cooperative, devoted, serious, perssimistic/ helps her husband run the pub

Yoon Tae Hyun/8/brother (never met)/plaful, innocent, troublemaker, out going/no job

Background: Born into a family that didn't want girls, she was thrown into the streets at the age of six to fend for herself. At that time, she didn’t know the reason why she was thrown out of the house and kept trying to come back. She would often sit outside the door or go into the pub that was owned by her family. At first, they just shoved her away, but eventually, it got to a point where they started beating her for her in order for her to stay away. Despite how betrayed she felt and how much tears she shed, she didn’t give up. Everyday, she would secretly peak into her house and hope for the day when they would let her in again. An entire year went by like this, with her living on the streets, begging for food. However, begging for food wasn’t even enough to keep her fed; she sometimes had to resort to stealing from food vendors or other places. It all changed when Soonmi’s mother gave birth again. The conversation between her parents was the thing that made her leave for good and never look back. In that conversation, she found out the reason why she was thrown away. But it wasn’t even because of that she decided to leave her hometown. It was in the excitement of their voices when the baby turned out to be a boy. How excited they sounded. How they said they finally had someone to take over the business. Their faces shined the kind of happiness that Soonmi had never once seen. Because of that, she knew there was no chance for her. Because of that, she secretly hopped on the back of a wagon and left for good.

Being helpless and completely naive at that time, she followed anyone that gave her something as simple as a smile. Lucky for her, a middle class family who took her in as a slave was kind enough to give her decent sharings of food. Nevertheless, she was still very much alone, and she lived like that for the next three years. Living the life of a servant girl had its difficulties, but she endured it all. She endured through the high-maintenance daughter of the house that constantly tried to make her life harder than it already was and often got her into trouble. She endured through the bullying amongst the servants because she was the youngest, so others often took advantage of that and gave her extra work. She endured it all until the day when the family hosted a party for their daughter’s fourteenth birthday. The party started off like any other parties, except at this one, Soonmi caught the eyes of a man from another household. When the man dragged her off to a secluded area of the house, she knew something was terribly wrong. Before anything could happen, the girl fought back and knocked the man unconscious. She escaped and ran out of the house, and she knew from that point, she could never return to the house again. Her choice was either to die in the house or to live on the streets. Of course, she chose the latter. However, words spread fast, and the next day, the family send out people to look for her so that she could pay for harming someone from a higher status. Without a choice, Soonmi, once again, hopped onto the back of a wagon and headed for another city.

Living on the streets again with no money or food, she knew she had to get a job. However, being at the age of ten, she had the shape of a straw. No one was willing to spend money on hiring a girl who wouldn't do a lot of work (such as heavy lifting). It took some hesitation, but in the end, she decided to go look for a job at the Gisaeng house. At first, they didn't want her because of her age, but they came to an agreement that she could do chores instead. From that point on, she worked in the Gisaeng house and watched everything and learned about everything from the back.

When she reached the age of thirteen, they started giving her lessons on being a proper Gisaeng; all the rules and tricks. At the age of sixteen, a new Gisaeng was born.

Personality: This girl has two personalities. One is her real personality; the one she shows when there's no customers. The other personality is what she calls her stage personality. That's the personality she puts on when she's with customers. Why? It's mostly because the stage personality is much more likable and could be easily used to manipulate the people and the situation. Now, it isn't to say that the stage personality is completely different from her normal personality nor is it completely fake. Her stage personality is still herself, but much more exaggerated on the innocence and cuteness. The stage personality surfaces whenever she feel that it could be used to her benefit.

The only person she feels confortable enough to have her real personality show is the old lady who helps her as she becomes a Gisaeng. Her real personality is much more realistic. It's not as sweet as the stage personality and it's not as innocent. With her real personality, she's very laid back, caring, reserved and sarcastic. Those traits were very dangerous for someone that's a Gisaeng. Therefore, she never showed any of those to anyone aside from the old lady.
Althought she can't really say that she's absolutely content with her life as a Gisaeng, but it's what she do best. Because being in the Gisaeng house at the age of ten, she's learned many things; too many for someone her age at that time. However, this only made her very good at what she do now.
She's manipulative, realistic, headstrong, loyal and careful.

  • Manipulative: One of the first traits she picked up since entering the Gisaeng house was the trick of manipulation. being in a society where no one was completely trust worthy, Soonmi quickly learned how to manipulate situations to her own benefit. Whether it be using her innocent appearance or through sweet worlds, manipulation was the skill she wielded as powerful as she wielded her dance. However, this wasn't a trait she picked up by herself. Back when she only started to learn how to become a Gisaeng, she met an old lady when she was running an errand. Even this day, she doesn't know how the old lady knew she was part of the Gisaeng house, but at that time, she didn't think about it too much. The old lady started talking to Soonmi, and before she knew it, they were having a conversation. A while into the conversation, she finally admitted that she was training to become a Gisaeng. To her surprise, the old lady did not judge her or look at her any differently than before. Instead, the old lady gave her one of the best advise she could ever recieve.    "You have the looks of someone trustworthy." The old lady started. "Your eyes have this sparkle of innocence, and you look very cute and harmless."  Soonmi started to grow embarrased at the sudden compliments, but what the old lady said next stopped her bashfulness and made her look up in surprise. "Those are your most powerful weapons, use it to your advantage."  Since then, Soonmi started to view the world as her stage and thus the stage personality was born. When Soonmi offically debuted as a Gisaeng, she used that skill to swoon customers right and left. She gained popularity with a snap of her fingers and, to other Gisaengs' horror, quickly climbed up the Gisaeng status.
  • RealisticEven if she had only known of him for six years, Soonmi shared a similar trait with her father. Like her father, she was realistic. She knew the society like the back of her palm, and she knew there was no room for useless daydreams. Although she would never admit, she sometimes grew envious of the girls who still hoped for things that were so far beyond their reach; so far from their reality. Things like wishing for a handsome, young, rich guy to take them away to be wed at another city where no one would know of them. Such dreams were total crap to Soonmi. But even then, she still couldn’t help but feel a little envious at the girls who could still dream of such unrealistic realities. In ways, she forced herself to be realistic to not expect too much out of things. Because she knew that once she starts to expect too much, the fall would always be harder in the end. For someone like Soonmi, it was nearly impossible to dream, because she had only ever known of one reality in her entire life. After how her parents heartlessly threw away their daughter into the harsh world, and after how the family she worked for tried to hunt her down. After countless days, week, of having not a single drop of rice or shelter, her reality; also her motto that she went by in life was, “Never not be good enough, or else you’d be nothing.”
  • Headstrong: Having the looks of someone innocent and easily taken advantage of, it often got Soonmi into many difficult situations. Especially when she first started her career as a Gisaeng, other Gisaengs often tried to take advantage of her by telling her to do things that she shouldn’t do. However, Soonmi wasn’t a fool. She had been working in the Gisaeng house ever since she was ten, thus she knew exactly what can or cannot be done in there. She knew a lot of the Gisaengs were backstabbers who couldn’t wait to find a weakness in anyone and use it to their advantage. Therefore, Soonmi kept herself secluded from everyone else. To her, it was better to have no friends at all, then to have fake friends who she couldn’t trust. However, being by herself all the time, especially when she got more popular amongst the Gisaengs, others thought Soonmi kept to herself because she was too good for anyone else. Due to that, others tried to bully her. Being thrown around all the time as a child just because she was a girl and looked weak, she refused to be bullied yet again. When the other Gisaengs saw Soonmi wasn’t a girl who was so easily pushed around as they had first thought, because Soonmi stopped at nothing until the ones who bullied her were out of the house. After that, Soonmi started to have a reputation in the Gisaeng house. Some envied her, some looked up to her, but whatever the case was, everyone kept out of her way.
  • Loyal: Although this rarely happened, but Soonmi was actually a very loyal girl. Once she knows for sure that you could be trusted and you aren't someone who would backstab her, she will be very loyal to you. You can see this a few times in her life: one was when her family threw her away, yet she kept coming back despite how betrayed she felt. Another time was when she was working for the middle-class family: despite how much she was bullied and pushed around there, she never left or complained, and she continued to serve the family. Nowadays, her loyalty lied with no one. Living in a society where anyone would be a spy, it was hard to trust anyone.

  • Careful: “You can never be too careful.” That was another thing the old lady said to her. Living in the house full of Gisaengs who all strive to be the best, there was no room to slips. The smallest slip in a word can result in cruel punishments or, the worst, death. Living in a world like that, she was extremely careful with every word that came out of . She knew that once she says something wrong, or something that shouldn’t be said, her entire life would be put in danger and all of her hard work would be for nothing. Living like that for so long, her guard was constantly up so that she could make no slips.

Trivia:

  • She has a thing for flower headpins, just because they're pretty and she's never owned anything like it in her entire life.
  • often times, she likes to wake up early and watch the sunrise. She finds it calming

Friends:
Due to how Soonmi always kept to herself, she never made any friends. The only person she goes to whenever she's having trouble, or whenever she seeks for advice is this lady who lives a few houses down the Gisaeng House. In ways, this old lady is like the mother she's never had.

Seo Yeong Hee/71/friend/wise, kind, trustworthy, motherly

Rivals:

Woo Hee Jin/17/rival/cunning, competitive, unreasonable, mean

Heejin started training as a Gisaeng around the same time as Soonmi, but Soonmi climbed up the Gisaeng's popularity status much faster than Heejin. Due to that, Heejin always envied everything that Soonmi has, and she swore she would get everything that Soonmi has. Everything.

Zhang Yixing  21  Father's Position: Ministry of Justice

Background:Born into extremely wealth and power, Zhang Yixing knew how to use his status and his charms to get whatever he wanted. However, it’s not to say that he was a brat. He just knew exactly which strings to pull to make things go his way.

Like his father, who was an excellent swordsman, growing up, Yixing wanted to be nothing but the best at sword fighting. He always looked up to his father for most things. To him, his father was like his role model, like a god, and Yixing wanted to be just like him. Overall, Yixing had a very happy childhood, filled with very fond memories of both him and his parents.

It all changed at the age when Yixing turned seventeen, and he discovered that his father had a secret mistress. Feeling completely betrayed at that time, he wanted to do nothing but go tell the whole world. However, reality hit him hard and he realized that it was best for his mother not to know. He realized that if words of his father having a mistress got out, things would go very badly for both his father and his family. Making the logical choice at that time, Yixing kept it to himself. But because of that incident, Yixing rarely made conversations longer than five minutes with his father, and they both grew apart. Even until this day, his father doesn’t know the reason why his affectionate son, who loved him so much to a point where it was annoying sometimes, started being so cold and quiet towards him. However, being a busy man, he never bothered to find out.

After that, Yixing was still that loving, kind boy as before, but a few things changed. Since then, Yixing started to notice all the horrible things that went on around him that he never noticed before. At the age of seventeen, he realized that the world he lived in was much more complex than he had let on. Things that went on throw backdoors, illegal trading, fraud and all the corruption in the government. From that point on, Yixing started to see the world in a different light, and he promised himself that he would bring justice to everyone that deserved it.

Personality:
  • Gentle: He is very gentle with his actions to make sure it doesn’t harm anyone. He’s very gentle with his words to make sure no one get hurt anyone. Overall, hew is very gentle. Like his loving mother, whom he can’t bring himself to tell her about his father’s mistress, Yixing was brought up with care. His mother always taught him to be the bigger person, and never hold grudges against anyone. Although his father was the only exception, Yixing became the kind of boy that was gentle and very considerate, and in return, the world loved him back.
  • Trustworthy: Although Yixing knows how cunning the society can be, he refuses to be dragged along with them. To everyone who knew Yixing well enough, they knew if there was anyone who they trust with their life, it was Yixing. Trust has never been an issue for him. Once someone shares a secret with him, the secret is locked up, and the person never has to worry about it getting out. Unless the secret was something incredibility big and dangerous like, “I’m going to slaughter the entire city tonight.” Then Yixing will definitely find ways to stop it, whether it require telling that secret or not. Overall, Yixing is the kind of boy his friends all go to for problems because he’s the kind of guy that will not tell a soul.
  • Smart: Another thing Yixing was known for, other than trustworthy, was the fact that that he was incredibility smart. Yixing started learned at an age younger than most kids around him, and he learned unbelievably faster as well. He was smart not only because he learned earlier and faster than others, it was because he loved to learn. He loved the endless knowledge the flows in the world, yet so little people knows of them. He loved to learned, and that was why he was so smart. Due to this, everyone around him expect him to do something incredible with his life in the future.
  • Tenacious: Whenever there was something he wanted, he will go through lengths to get it. Whether it’d be an object, a person or just to get his way in a situation, he will not give up until he’s gotten what he came for. Some may call him stubborn, but that was just Yixing. Perhaps it was because he had everything as a child, so he refuses to accept the fact that there’s something he can’t have. However it may be, Yixing doesn’t give up easily.
  • One of Yixing's flaw is that he gets jealoused easily. Too easily. Perhaps it was because he had everything in his grasp since youth and he never had to share anything of his. Although jealous is normal. For Yixing, jealousy can sometimes get to the best of him. It sometimes made his actions reckless and foolish, and that got him into a lot of trouble. However, he tries to work on it; to not feel so overly possessive.

Relationship: After the first met, Yixing came to the Gisaeng house again to look for her. At first, she treated him like any other customers of hers, with her stage personality and all. However, Yixing saw through the mask all too easily, and he confronted her about it. Soonmi was very surprised because no one has ever been able to see through her stage personality before, and because of that, Yixing stood out to her.

They’re going to start falling in love with each other once she puts away the stage personality and strikes up an actual conversation. They’ll fall in love with each other without even realizing it. At first, the both of them will just enjoy each other’s company. However, the more they hang out, the more they both realizes that there might be something more. On days when they don’t get to see each other, they noticed how they were a little discouraged. But on days when they were going to see each other, they found themselves more excited.

Yixing is going to learn about her struggles and Soonmi is going to learn about the incident with his father. The more they learned about each other, the more in love they will be. The two will start meeting secretly at night, outside of the Gisaeng house.

  • The way Soonmi acted around Yixing was very careful at first because she was still testing waters. She didn't know if he could be trusted, if she could show him her real side. After coming to a conclusion that he was trustworthy, she felt more at ease. After that, the way she acted around him was more laid back, and she told him all about her life. Once she actually started to realize her feeling for the boy, she started to grow anxious; like she wasn't ready for love. To her, love was something she has never felt before, so the fact that she's 'in love' scared her more than she was willing to admit. When she got over that and accepted the fact that she loves Yixing, their relationship took off and they were very romantic with each other. Always showering each other with love, even though Soonmi struggles with showing her affection. However, Soonmi tries her best and that's all Yixing could ever wanted.
  • Yixing acted around Soonmi with curiosity when they offical met (when he was fully conscious, explains in How They Met), as if there was something different about this girl. The way the girl acted seemed off to Yixing. Of course, all the Gisaengs faked smiles and words to please their customers, but this girl's sweet and innocent attitude seemed like it was real. Too real. Therefore, Yixing approched her with curiosity as he tried to figure her out. While doing that, he was patient and gentle. He, a customer, treated her like how a real person should be treated, not just a Gisaeng. When he realized he was in love with the girl, he was scared that the love would go wrong. Like it had with his father, who disregarded his mother for a mistress, he was afraid that he could turn out like his father. However, when he talked it out with Soonmi, he realized that he was different from his father, and he could definitely set a different path for himself. After that, he acted like the typical romantic guy that you would see in cheesy romance movies. But what can you say? He's just a man in love.

How they met: The way the two met was quite the comedy. Although at the time, it wasn’t funny at all. It was the first time Yixing has ever gone into a Gisaeng house, and he agreed to it because of a few friends of his. So, it might be the fact that Yixing wasn’t very familiar with the Gisaeng house, or it might be because he was a little drunk at that time. Yixing wondered around the Gisaeng house aimlessly and carelessly. He walked until his legs gave away and he accidently opened a door and crashed into the room without even realizing it. Which room was it? Lucky for him, it wasn’t an occupied room with customers, but there was someone in it. Soonmi was in it. Not only was she in it, she was also in the middle of putting on her dress. Horrified because she thought he was a , Soonmi was about to scream. Just then she realized he was drunk, and quite unconscious. Because of that, Soonmi assumed that Yixing didn’t see anything, or at least he couldn’t be able to remember it. Or could he?

scene requests?: Since Sooni is someone who has never had fun in her entire life, i want her time with Yixing to be fun before they start to get intimate. Kind of like...fun and funny moments would be nice (:

OMG her background is so sad and pitiful.. I like it. Except maybe give me a grudge, or maybe even a vindictive reason why she would want to take part in the rebellion? but thats a pretty small thing. I love the descriptive personality, i cant believe this is your first time, probably would have picked your OC if you werent my co-author anyways. Your ratings might be a little too high on the gisaeng specialties, but thats a very minor issue.
I LOVE LAY's CHARACTER he has a reason to be in a rebellion, perhaps fill me in on a couple of examples on what he started to see? Larceny? Embezzlement? Bribery? Something that made him see his world in a different light. I also feel like Lay should have a weakness or a flaw or something? I know thats hard, but really, we all have one somewhere. Their relationship sounds good, just tell me a little bit more about how they interact with each other and also tell me a little bit more about Soonmi's inner personality?
and I really like how they all met. xD I dont have any major complaints, a little tweaks here and there, but this has definitely been one of the best apps so far.
